I've seen these situations, they do try and understand each other and it's a journey they take together getting to know one another in a different way. It's confusing to explain and just like any relationship only those individuals will understand why they are together but I think it's wonderful to have someone willing to learn more about you and put the effort in getting closer to regular communication little by little. It's like an adventure if I had to describe it.

That's thing I never understood about dating as a teenager. I went on dates all the time as a teenager, but I wasn't planning on finding a girlfriend until after I was an actual adult since it makes no sense to not keep the future in mind. If you just go through the motions as a teenager or even as an adult to be in a relationship without considering the possible future you might have together, it's going to end in heartbreak. My purpose in a boyfriend-girlfriend relationship was to determine if I want to marry this person. As a result, I've only ever had one girlfriend, my now wife and best friend in the world, ever. I confessed my feelings to her despite being from Japan and the U.S., miles and miles away from each other, because after talking with her about our goals for the future, we determined together that it was worth trying and that we cared that much for each other. I only saw her twice a year for the next year and a half until I asked her to marry me. She was worth waiting for, and so, I don't understand why people would date like that without some kind of intent to determine if they want to spend their life together. Otherwise, it just ends in worse heartbreak.

      @joelcorley3478 Před 5 lety +9

@@rintsukishima3348 I don't know that nationality really matters much to most people. That's something governments worry about. Mostly people just want to find someone they're attracted to that share their interests, values and objectives in life.
I'm Caucasian, but I find on average Asian women are physically more attractive than Caucasian women. They look a bit exotic and just more feminine to me. (I also think Asian men look more feminine than Caucasian men, but I'm not attracted to men.) Plus I think petite women are generally awesome. I might sometimes tease them for being short, but I always find them cute and usually quite desirable for some reason...
Finally I think most women that grew up in Asian countries simply have more practical life goals and for some reason they have a better ability to plan ahead to try to make those things happen. That seems to be sorely lacking (in both men and women) here in the USA. I suspect that's a function of their up-bringing and the media they've been exposed to. But I find it very frustrating and unattractive.

If you grow up in a mainly homogeneous culture, it probably wouldn't even occur to you to date a foreigner. That doesn't seem so surprising to me. Less than 3% of the population in Japan are foreigners, and less than 1% are non-Asian foreigners. That's nothing compared to the staggering 40% mixed-heritage non-white population in the USA. Surely in the future, if the number of foreigners in Japan increase, they will inevitably be forced to confront similar problems that the US has faced for the last 100-150 years

I really like these Interviews but I was a bit shocked about the responses. I think Japanese do not mean any harm by saying they want to be friends with a foreigner to acquire language skills or because they look good in their eyes. But they do not know that most of the foreigners might feel a bit insulted/offended/used when they hear the only reason why the Japanese hang out with them is because of their nationality/mother tongue.
They just say it that way because most of them have never ever talked to any foreign person in their entire life. I think this mindset might change when they understand that such relationships are not really interesting. I was by the way the same when I started learning Japanese. But the more I hanged out with Japanese, the more I started to understand that relationships based on same interests and hobbies are so much more fun than relationships based on the foreigness of your conversation partner.

If the relationship is long term and if your planning on moving into Japan via a marriage visa. Than let me inform you that there will be risks to take:
      1. Possible discrimination; Japan is a homogeneous society. There can be discrimination of any form, especially if you two were to have kids. Half kids can have a pretty bad experience growing up in Japan (e.g. school).
      2. Work; it can be hard getting a job in Japan if you don't have the qualifications. Although the Japanese Prime Minister has already passed laws in parliament that will make migrants seeking blue-collar work easy.
      3. Integrating; as long you can speak 日本語 fluent and ack like them: than things should be fine.

I didn't feel discriminated or nothing like that, maybe "friendly" discrimination but nothing happened. Discrimination is everywhere. If I speak Japanese fluently and all that, that'd be easier for me BUT, doesn't help solve discrimination. Sure there will be areas or places that will say " No Foreigners" I've seen a Japanese kid who was half black over there and had a group of friends who were all full Japanese. As the person I am, I carry alot of mannerism. I'm no typical loud mouth, uptight New Yorker. I've given up my seat for an elderly Japanese lady in Japan, and she was really thankful.

I’m American, and I married an American. I am biracial as my mother is from Central America, my spouse is not biracial, so there is a bit of culture sharing but no clashes as my spouse is accepting of my “dual culture” and embraces it. I am open to friendships with anyone from anywhere. If I wasn’t married I would be open to dating or marriage with a foreigner. It’s the person inside that matters. Culture and languages can be shared and learned.

My crush is Jackson Wang from Got7 right now. If I ever meet a foreign guy, he's gotta be like him. A lot of American girls are strong-minded. I think that comes from a country that got its values on such strong principles centered by the Constitution. Men and women had to build up the country, they all had to develop strength, so I think it traveled down to modern women and modern thinking subconsciously. However, there are also still women who are quiet and willing to do what their man wants if they find he is a good man that works, is loyal or faithful to his wife, and helps her with some household responsibilities, like Japanese men do. I hear in Japan, it's customary for Japanese men to give their WHOLE CHECK to their wives and she decides where the money goes. American men wouldn't do that, so the women have to be stronger and work to get money for themselves.

Regardless of where my next partner comes from or is from, I just wanna date someone who's not an asshole and doesn't treat me like dirt. That's all I ask.
If I were to date a Japanese partner, I don't think it would be difficult since we're both Asian and hold a lot of common values when it comes to family. However, the only "differences" they can expect from me is that I'm incredibly affectionate and I'm not shy about it.

This is not what he means, that has nothing to do with men having no confidence really this is basically a cultural difference. To them western women seem more blunt and maybe even rude compared to Japanese women because of how direct they are in front of them. Foreign guys don't have the same said about them cuz they tend to go with the pace and behaviour Japanese girls would like them to go with.
I get it completely, Japan is a super indirect country, mine also is somewhat indirect so when I meet with Germans, they strike off as super rude to me sometimes because of some of the stuff they say so casually (and their tone). They don't want to call foreign girls "rude" on camera and say strong willed instead.

That is because you are from Germany meaning you come from a first world multicultural country with liberal policies and mindset about immigration. You grew up in that environment. Most countries in the world (overwhelming majority infact) aren't like that and as an aspect of human nature, we tend to live in groups and be wary of people outside of our groups. In modern day, this is basically fearing the unknown. Immigration from all around the world to your country is a North American and Western European trend, not seen much anywhere else therefore not really giving people enough opportunities to interact and get to know people of different nationalities. (except for ethnic minorities which is super different to multiculturalism as you yourself also would know)

James Williams I’ve had better luck with Asian girls being “wife” material than American girls. I never had to hide who I was with them, whereas with American women once they find out you’re Christian some of them shun you. When they find out you have conservative ideals you have to walk on egg shells to avoid arguments. (I never hid who I was but walked on egg shells). Of course if I married an Asian girl I’d hope she would came around to Christianity, same for an American girl. But yeah if you meet a nice Asian girl don’t worry about it, the ones I’ve dated never shunned me for my beliefs, likewise I never forced mine on anyone either. But I like being able to speak my heart and not having to walk on egg shells to avoid arguments.
Not that I find most western women very attractive anyways but I just don’t find most dateable. I like the petite features and attitude and culture of Asian women much better. Even Latin women are raised different than most American women, I’m just speaking from person experience. American society is in shambles. Your competition for a good American girl is gonna steep if you find one.
