My partner is similar, quit school after 1 semester. She's so bright, was the valedictorian of her high school, but just had too much going on in her personal life at the time... we are both stuck in the work/bills hole, I hope someday she'll be able to pursue the education that she deserves. Good luck to you, don't let anyone make you feel bad, you're getting there in your own time! You got this.

Similar situation with me. I got back in college last year, only 4 subjects, I only passed 2, but I was close to pass the other 2, but I lacked focus in the last few days before their exams. Thankfully, a few months before I got back in college, a couple friends of mine convinced me quite bluntly, althoght in a fair way, to start having calls with a psicologist.
Still a lot to do, but I'm quite suspicious that I would have taken the 2 out of 4 subjects approved thing way worse a year or two before, so there's that. It's about Computer Engineering, and I lacked (and still lack) a study rutine, but I think I'm slowly getting into the mindset to be able to do it. I dailed back to only 1 hour per day the use of social media (it's mainly to dail back Twitter usage, but I also limit into that hour/day the usage of Reddit, Instagram or Facebook).
My objectives next course/year is: 1) to pass 6 subjects; 2) made my mind clear, or at least get closer to that, in regards of my real interest in this career, so then I could be sure if I should keep in CS or change to another career, for instance economics; and 3) test how far can I go regarding studying perfomance/improvement with a better mindset and less social media usage.

It's been a lot of jumping around different jobs all these years and now that I'm 26 wanting a better life for myself, my thoughts have been filled of going back to college. Accompanying this longing to get a degree are so many fears and so much confusion. I was searching up on how to get back to it when I stumbled upon your video. You've got me emotional. I’m an art student. Like the rest of the world, I did not take school seriously in my late teens. I shifted to 3 different courses and earned my associates degree at 20. Just so I can say that I have a degree. Parents wanted me to learn the importance of money so I struggled working Retail jobs from Age 21 until now (co-workers are like my family, good people, but the, work is really stressful) . I just turned 25 a month ago, I’ve been feeling old. Thank you so much for the encouragement , It helped a lot. Hoping to go back to college to pursue my bachelors next fall. 😊 🙏

feeling old could be stress or vitamin D deficiency. But I doubt the latter and think its the former. There are ways to combat the energy draining effects of stress. Exercise is one way but your diet is an other. Start drinking tea or drink more tea. Have a weekly exercise routine. Eat smaller high frequency meals. Sleep is a privilege a lot of us don't have but obviously, get more sleep; 7 - 9 hours.
      That's it! LOL

Im so happy I found this video. Droped out of collage at 20 becouse of depression and due to financial issues, still cant forgive myself for that. Moved away to Austria, then Germany, married in the mean time. My husbend is finishing collage next year, I plan on starting over as soon as he finishes - that was kinda of our deal , since he has the citizenship its just easier for him to get in to collage and he as a man and a citizen will make more money so that was our strategy. I will have a baby son and be 26 by october 2025, its not my native language and im terrified but also Im so exited.... Thank you so much- this is a very motivating video for me.

I’m 25 and last year I went back to school part time doing the science prerequisites to apply for a biology major, now I’m doing it full time !! so I’ll be starting at 26 or 27 (in Quebec, there’s a 2 year school after high school before a 3 or 4 year bachelor degree). Like you, I didn’t take my studies seriously after high school because I just wasn’t motivated by it and I failed enough classes to get kicked out. I would do well in classes where I loved the teacher and fail the ones I found boring. This made me doubt myself and installed the fear in me that I couldn’t be smart enough to study in STEM. I was always so interested in nature and biology was my goal after high school but I got lost along the way and I still think it’s for the best. My parents both dropped out of school, travelled, had kids and went back to school in their 20’s and I still felt like a failure at first !! I needed to experience life for myself before I could end up here and I see it now. Going back to school older also made me understand my challenges better... and I ended up going through the process of getting diagnosed with ADHD. With medication, therapy and accommodations I’m THRIVING. Instead of feeling inadequate and like I’m fighting myself, I know my strengths and work with them. I searched CZcams for a video like this and I’m glad I found yours. I wanted to hear about someone else’s experience for tips or guidance but this ended up feeling like a big hug of validation, thank you :)

I dropped out of college at 19 (full tuition and everything smh) because I didn't know what I wanted and just wasn't happy. I never had a 5 or 10-year plan...I was just frivolous and "going with the flow"..not very serious. After all these years of working dead-end jobs, I realized that I can do more with my life and I have clarity on where I want to be in the next 5-10 years so the time is now.

    This was so beautifully said.
I grew up being an honors kid who only ever got good grades in high school. Once I graduated, I was supposed to go off to a four year but quit before I could even pack up to go. I was so insecure with myself for so many different things.. I just felt like I wasn't going to make it/ I wasn't worth the money or the effort. I started working several jobs just to figure myself out and earn my stay in my family home... I went to community college for 2 years when I was 19 to try to please my parents with the promise of eventually getting into another 4 year, but I didn't want to do it. Now I'm 24. I've learned a lot over the years and feel so much regret for taking community college for granted. I really want to go back, but I still carry a little bit of that anxiety I had before... but somethings missing and I know it's school.
I NEED to go back. Thank you for your incite. I'm glad you went back :) much love!!

I come from a low income family as well so having all that weight on my shoulders is defeating but what I keep reminding myself is “what if” I DO succeed.. being scared to fail is natural but nobody ever succeeded in life without fear of failing and those “what ifs.” Even if you fail that means you tried, get up and try again. Don’t stay stagnant.

I am 21 now. Soon will be 22. I have completed my Bachelor's a year ago. In our family and in the society which I am a part of, one can instantly sense and imbibe the misconception about higher education as something not worth it. Being a part of this culture with a desire to learn further is extremely difficult for me. Your experience has challenged my view over the emphasis I place on acceptance I crave from my surrounding and succumbing to my fears at the cost of suppressing myself. Looking forward to stay hopeful. Thank you for sharing your experience.

I love what you said so much I feel about very similar to you. I think I finally reached an age where I'm ready to do university. And I'm 26 with a toddler but I want I know we all are made for a higher purpose than what entry level work has to offer.

Thanks for making this video. Im gonna be 27 and would like also go back to school. I became a mechanic and it's taken its toll on my body. I plan to go for computer science since it's taken my interest and is a lot less physically demanding.

I am 23 dropped out before the pandemic happened cause I took 2 high level math and a Calculus based Physics class and that semester destroyed my confidence and happiness so I dropped out of community college for a second time.... but then I went back to the work force and it just reminded me how much working in the customer service industry just sucks and even the warehouse jobs just sapped the life out of me. Want to go back to school but I sadly just don’t know what degree I want. I was interested in engineering but I think I might make the switch to something slightly more easier for me and something new that interests me. I might take 2021 off as well but I do feel like I need to some more soul searching before I go back and if you can do it at 27 then that is motivating for me so thank you for this video.

The pandemic conditions screwed up my chances of a full college experience. My colleges were closed in person.

I understand you , same thing happened to me ,took maths classes and felt terrible my confidence died , left during the pandemic but now I tell myself am the only one stopping myself , I don't wanna regret taking the easy route, so am returning back to same maths I was avoiding, I have to do it if I want a better future.

Thank you for this! I appreciate how you put it. Very encouraging. Just wanted to say that i came from a healthy home that promoted college. Yet still i felt all this pressure from my family and school pushing me towards a specific schooling. I went and hated it. Decided to take a gap year which has now turned into 6. And now im looking at going back for the very degree i dropped out of. But I like what you said about after some life experience i now yearn for education. I yearn for work and learning. It took a while, i mean basically the entire 6 years, to come to the conclusion that i can and do actually WANT to continue schooling. Which is a drastically different perspective i had coming out of high school.
