  • Many new self-published authors struggle with whether to use Amazon’s Kindle Unlimited Program - a subscription that gives its readers access to millions of titles for a set monthly fee. In this video, I go over the pros and cons of this service and what you should consider when deciding how to publish.

    Kindle Unlimited was how I was introduced to you and now you are my FAVORITE author!! 😍😍 Not finish your book!?!? Blasphemy!!! I'm 36 books down! I understand both sides and I'll follow wherever you go! Keep doing what you do!

    I’m grateful to KU because I discovered so many of my favorite Indie authors through it. I usually choose to buy books from you all at events, but space is an issue. Thanks for enlightening us. Just know I’m a one clicker and I can’t believe people don’t finish a CCJ book🤷🏾‍♀️.

    Very informative! Didn't know. I always wondered why Love's full catalog wasn't on Unlimited. I COMPLETELY understand now. I want Black Indie authors of ALL genres to come together and make an Unlimited program so y'all can get paid accordingly, get new readers, and decide how many books in your catalog is best for the collective. That exclusivity is ridiculous to me.

      I like what Love does, the 3rd book of the installment costs. Makes sense.

    I have a KU subscription and I do read your books through there, but I purchase all of you books as well. So if decide to publish without KU, it's all good!

    Thanks for this. It's good to see different perspectives on KU.
    I've found that it largely depends on the genres you write. I'm not published yet, so my info is from inide authors I've watched on the subject and it sounds like genres like romance and thrillers can do great on KU whereas genres like epic fantasy or sci-fi don't sell as well on KU.
    At least one of the fantasy authors I follow makes a huge amount of money from Kobo as well as Amazon and would lose a lot from putting their books on KU. This is really due to where their target audience read.
    When I publish, I'm considering testing KU before publishing on every other platform to see the difference. I write fantasy and sci-fi.

    Had no idea! I’m a huge fan, you were the first author I read using KU and I haven’t stop clicking since! I’ve read all of your books, who doesn’t finish a CCJ book 🤷🏽‍♀️? Can your paperback books be purchased in a bundle?

    This is very informative, thank you for sharing. I am not sure if you know this, but are authors compensated by library book downloads via Libby, Overdrive, or Hoopla?

    • @ChristinaJonesAuthor
      @ChristinaJonesAuthor  Před 4 lety +3

      It truly depends on what terms are worked out with the publisher, but in my experience, the author is compensated for the individual library's purchase (at a higher rate than public) but not for individual loans. Please don't let that deter you from utilizing the library though - the more loans, the more interest in other titles from that author!

    Can you help us understand the math of payment on Kindle please? Today the site says "Author with a 100 page eBook that was borrowed and read completely 100 times would earn $1,000" ...so does that mean 100 people must read it completely for the author to get $1,000?? Just not sure about the verbiage.

  • @mutonimimi

    Do you still make money from page reads if someone rereads your books? I’m a big re-reader of your books 🤗

    • @ChristinaJonesAuthor
      @ChristinaJonesAuthor  Před 4 lety +11

      We only get paid once, either from KU or outright sale! But, if you downloaded via KU, then later decided to purchase, we would get royalties from both transactions!

    • @mutonimimi

      Christina C Jones purchasing it is! 🤗

  • @HeyCuteEarrings
    @HeyCuteEarrings Před 2 lety

    If someone doesn't read all of your book, do you still get paid for the pages they do read?
    And do you think it is worth it to not do KU, and instead have a really low price for your book. Probably depends on enough traffic, but for me, if I find a book I think looks good but it's not KU, I will likely get it if it's under $4 or $5. Almost certainly if it's $2 and under. Would that price make up for traffic until you gain some notoriety enough to up the price or use KU because it will pay off better?
    I think Amazon probably prevented author divestment with their Amazon prime and Black Friday extended trial periods over the last 6 months. Seems like there has been a surge in interest in ebooks and KU specifically. Maybe not though. This is just my impression as a consumer.

    Question: I new aspiring author... If you purchase your own ISN(ESN) some letters I keep forgetting, can you then sell outside of Amazon as well as on Amazon?

    • @ChristinaJonesAuthor
      @ChristinaJonesAuthor  Před 4 lety +1

      An ISBN isn't required to sell ebooks outside of Amazon. It can be beneficial, but not completely necessary.

      @@ChristinaJonesAuthor I've heard from several people that the algorithm gives you a boost in ranking if you're in Kindle unlimited. So for a debuting author who doesn't have a big platform yet and you're going to do Amazon ads that's probably the way to go to get that extra boost?

    • @ChristinaJonesAuthor
      @ChristinaJonesAuthor  Před 3 lety +1

      I can't say personally that I believe the algorithm boosts books that are in KU, but I do believe inclusion in KU makes your book more available to a wider audience willing to take a chance on a new author - which would account for "better" ranking. My belief is very unscientific though!

    Do you still feel this way a year later?

    • @ChristinaJonesAuthor
      @ChristinaJonesAuthor  Před 2 lety +2

      Yes, I definitely think KU is still a valuable program, especially for authors working to establish a reader base. I've personally started my move away from it, but the majority of my books are still in the program, and i'm in no hurry to move my backlist. Thank you for asking this - I'm going to rewatch and do an update!
