This is an interesting meeting. I can tell it is hard to investigate both practices. Beings the basis of both traditions departed from the same region but matured in different ways. I am very very sad to hear what is happening in China. I love these gurus and teachers, they have a methodical wisdom with these truer paths involving a higher calling. I am glad to be apart of Buddhism. Dalai Lama is one of my favorite people to listen to speak about finding a harmonious path.

Excellent interview! teaching should be experienced and not merely read about it and use it literally for the sake of argument without real understanding. One who understands illuminates such light as his holiness does!

Human beings are not perfect, human beings are not saints, human beings make mistakes and time teaches us to learn from our lessons. I am a Chinese, with no religious belief. but I believe all religious motif are for the better being of all human beings, just in different ways when different religions were created at the beginning.the society is complicated, and even more when it comes to the interconnected society with so many different cultures and visions, and even more when religion is entangled with politics. Government and activists (with just or not so just ambitions) are like mirrors to each other. There are similar sayings in both Chinese and English: to see is to believe. Nowadays, sometimes even what you see might not be true. Like exploration, truth is close only when we keep explore. So go to Tibet and find for yourself. In my eyes, progress has been made and needs to be made in the future. As for those who curse Chinese people, I think it is biased and not fair for Chinese people.

Meditation is sitting quietly, without moving, to allow your mind's healing qualities, clarity, wisdom and inner happiness to unfold as it's not distracted by outer stimuli. There are many good videos on this here on YT - one of my favourites is Tan Dtoon - a young buddhist monk in Thailand, he's very refreshing

I am looking around and found him and I am not very familiar with Tibet and China conflicts but I wish he will be able to go home back to his country. China is huge and I don't know why they still want to claim Tibet. I hope China will compromise and let's just move on and live together peacefully.

I love how Buddha removes all the deityism involved with dharma practices. He hits the nail on the head. More humanizing this process in a more scientific view. Is interesting to see two gurus practicing the same process in two modernized forms of a teaching. It's a more human approach. Underlying a basics of self awareness.

Lock yourself in a floatation tank (warm salty water for unaided buoyancy; dark; sound-proofed) and can guarantee you will be "meditating" within 20 minutes. After 24 hours you will begin to lose the plot as sensory deprivation turns your head into mush. Our brain likes a holiday (i.e. meditation, sleep, day-dreaming) but only a short break....

"Compassion is that which makes the heart of the good move at the pain of others. It crushes and destroys the pain of others; thus, it is called compassion. It is called compassion because it shelters and embraces the distressed". - The Buddha

It's all so patriarchal and pointless. What have these Buddhists really achieved apart from waffling on and living a lovely rarified life which they have carved out for themselves ? Look at the inequity in India...and the world. The street children. The murder of women...eternal wars etc etc.

  • @544narayanan

The interviewer takes a subordinate position and flatters HHDL. HHDL has a poor understanding of the teachings of the Buddha. He talks of "becoming" , his development. Buddha negated "becoming". HHDL also talks of practice of compassion.... this is something Buddha never approved of.

He claims that he is a man of peace, but is he? Or is the Dalai Lama like his predecessor, Jim Jones who also was venerated as a "holy man" and "man of peace" until he poisoned all of his devotees in French Guyana. Recent exposes by respected German magazines and Salon and other media, have revealed a very different
person than the Dalai Lama pretends to be.’ Tibetans are far better off under Chinese rule.

Felix Burke "Tibetans are far better off under Chinese rule" hahahahha are you serious?
That is a 100% opinion; I would bet you aren't Tibetan, therefore you have no clue how they feel. GO there and find out.... ask the people.... research what the Chinese actually did to the Tibetan people. "Better" is a relative statement based on perspective. You don't think for a second that the "media" you speak of have some outside influence? step away from your ego (superficial self) and really think as an aware being of what you just said and what you think we should be doing as a society.
who or what are "respected German magazines" anyways? and better yet, who gives a shit?
Listen to him... i't not hard to see why the "powers that be" wouldn't want us to all really LISTEN to his word and insight and actually apply this to society.
