Panasonic HC X2000 4k crop vs 2x digital zoom 1080

  • Just a little test to see where I get the most details. My victim was the moon to check if the digital doubling of the already powerful ~600mm zoom in 1080p was better than shooting in 4K and then crop in post.

    Keep up the tests, much appreciated 🙏I got an X2000 a couple of weeks ago as an upgrade and companion to my XF1. Cheers 👍

    Yo he dado todo el zoon y la luna se ve sólo con brillo de luz, sin apreciar nada. Tengo otras camaras más antiguas y si enfocan la luna perfectamente. Con la panasonic hc x 2000 e no lo consigo

    Great test; thankyou. My camera is arriving next week! What SDXC card are you using? I'm unsure whether to get v60 or v90 cards

    Nice job, in 4k crop in post, better!

      Yes, this is also my conclusion. I will stick to 4K

    The video is very stable. I'm assuming the camera was on a solid tripod but with the lens zoomed in all the way did you have the camera's OIS enabled?

      On a tripod, I do not use image stabilization. And yes this tripod is very solid. (Manfroto MPRO 535)

    Do you know how to make thumbnails pictures in Windows Explorer and playback with MediaPlayer, looks like it need some extra codecs to install?

    • @Sockeye404
      @Sockeye404  Před 4 lety +1

      This is a pain. To see the thumbnails of my Mavic 2 Pro (HVEC 420 10bit) I needed to install the HVEC codec for Windows 10. But this 10 Bit 422 .mov files are not recognized. Presumably I will need to install some Quicktime codecs. But I did not try it yet. The VLC can handle the files somehow, but I am still looking for some kind of solution for a quick preview.

    It's pretty close on my monitor but I think the 4K crop might have the edge too. I'm really looking forward to the reach that I'll be able to get with this camera. Thanks Sockeye404 for posting your experiences with it. I plan to buy in July and I check frequently for new posts regarding the x1500, x2000 and CX10 to see if buyers are happy with the cameras despite all the criticism about the small sensor, i.e. poor low light performance and the lack of bokeh. I have not seen proof of this in the limited amount of information out there. There is so much to like about these cameras. Can you tell me why you chose the x2000? Do you need the SDI port? Since I really don't think I will use it, I was planning to get the x1500 and add the handle for a total of $2000 and saving a little off the x2000's price of $2200.

      Regarding small sensor and lack of bokeh its not really true. Its not bad. If you don't need SDI you can just buy x1500 (and handle if needed). It will be absolutely the same. Only cons in general - no battery charger, *no USB charging,* USB2 for data (if you copy with card reader doesn't matter, but kind of weird in 2020). Autofocus is awesome, image stabilization is very good too. In general very nice experience, but feel overpriced. It kind of different experience vs DSLR (in a good way), but might be consider GH5 (GH6 in the summer?). What do you want to use it for?

      To be honest, I wanted the handle which is currently not available and my trip was planned for Easter... I do not care about the SDI Port. If I would have known before, that I will spend my time anyway at home till summer, I would also have chosen the x1500 + separate handle :-)

      @@Sockeye404 Thanks, looks like you thought you were in a time crunch. I don't see myself transmitting signal over SDI so I too can live without the jack. I like to shoot from a lower perspective and the handle, besides a good way to hang on to the camera, adds a second rec button and zoom rocker on top and of course the the xlr jacks and full audio control for external mics is worth adding to the package.

      @@rendermanpro Thanks for the information. Glad to hear you confirming the positive features. Good to know your cons too. Despite the 4hr claim on the battery, I always buy a second battery and a charger for my cameras but too bad at least the charger wasn't included. I pull my SD cards and use a card reader. Nice to also know there's no USB charging, but I can work around. USB2/3 live on and on despite that USBc been around a long time now. I use my cameras for the creative fulfillment of making movies for my CZcams Channel. Nature mostly and usually in good light. I prefer the camcorder form factor, even though I have a Nikon Z6 kit. For camcorders, I like my Sony AX700 with its 1" sensor but only 4K @30p and not great stabilization and limited reach with its 12x zoom. My Sony PJ790 (another 1/2" sensor camera) has great BOSS stabilization but shoots only full HD. When considering the comparable cost of a GH5, I can see what your saying about these camcorders feeling overpriced, but start adding lenses for the GH5 and things even out quickly. I still haven't heard any deal-breakers yet about these Panasonic cameras.

      @@DanChanPiano "I always buy a second battery and a charger for my cameras" - and here as well as myself you will be very surprised about battery and charger price.... I think that GH5 or GH6 would be better choice (especially if you dont need 600mm zoom), or Panasonic HC-WXF1 UHD 4K (its 2 years old model) might be better. I have GH4 and its very good, lenses you can by for $150-250. I mean I don't think that X1500 will give significant image quality improvement over WXF1 , but you can buy 2x WXF1 for multiple angle for example at the same cost.
