I dunno, but heavy industrial facilities and big machinery is very soothing.
This is one of my favorite finds on youtube. I love sounds more on the "brown noise" spectrum and this is closer to that.

I remember being in a workplace one day (over 30 years ago) and although I can't recall what kind of business it was I remember a huge space with these very large air shafts running everywhere.The sound was deafening but at the same time extremely soothing-much like this recording but naturally much "weightier" and enhanced with a deep low end "thrum" that made me instantly wish that I worked there regardless of what ever the hell it was they did there!

Probably because more complex systems actually use water. They call it "Chilled water", as the name suggests.... well, you might see pipes with acronyms of "CHWS" "CHWR" and whatnot. They are like send and return pipes to the cooler essentially. This is what I think it is at least.

Reminds me of the time I took a wrong turn at the hotel I was staying at and wound up in the boiler room that had a similar sound. It was a snowy nite and I chatted with the maintenance crew for awhile and had to excuse myself later as I told them the sound was making me very sleepy. They all laffed and said, "Welcome to the club!"... So I would suppose the white noise syndrome is more prevalent than a lot of us have suspected. Have a good nite!
Naturaly it is prevalent to us all, because in our subconsciousness it reminds us the sound we heard for month when we are in the belly of our mothers, thats the reason why so much people love this noise, can focus and sleep so well with it, we are use to it and feel save with it we just cant remember why. But, theyre are also people ho cant stand this noise for sleeping, for example my wive 😂 me and my daughter love it 🤷🏼♂️

I've been liking this one alot so far! gets and puts me to sleep fast! Reminds me of the sound of my old, loud, heater in my house when i was a little kid. I would lay in bed most of the night but when the heater kicked in, the sound of it coming though the vents put me right to sleep. This one does the same, sounds just like it. Thanks!
I've listened to this now almost every night (easily 360/365 nights a year) for at least 7 years now. I keep trying others, but NOTHING I've found can completely drown everything out like this track!
Can't get better comments than that. But wait, I now sound like the soul sole source of that sound :) Maybe a remix with this will be even better... This is in the works as being remixed with plans trains and other sewer pipes.

ive been sleeping with this on for the last 3-4 years. its hard to sleep without it and if it turns off during the night or in the morning i wake up. i shiver during the day without it and think about it when its not on. Its basically heroin.

For those out there who have a colicky baby who for no reason cries constantly or can't sleep at night play this n should work wonders. My baby was one of those who cried n cried all day all night. I found this n she magically stays asleep pretty much the entire night n stops crying almost immediately to this noise wherever whenever, of course after eliminating dirty diaper, hungry, hot n cold times...This thing is MY LIFESAVER!

Natalie Cumpian I have done a lot of reading on this. The number is between 1 and 7 to 1 in 10 that find "white Noise" soothing and relaxing. I was born in the mid 60's and started school in the early 70's and was diagnosed with ADD. As a result I was always wound up come bed time. My mental and physical stimulation in the evenings needed to be monitored. It was very hard for me to relax. Even now as an adult I have these issues along with insomnia. I discovered as a child on Saturday night bath night that the bonnet hair dryer sound relaxed me to the point of falling asleep while drying my hair... My Mom saw this as lightening in a bottle and recorded the sound onto audio tapes for me to play as I went to bed. It wasn't until my psychology class in college that I found out I wasn't alone. lol The the advent of the internet really showed I wasn't alone ! lol As a suggestion there are so many different white noise links try one or 2 different sounds at simmilar pitches. Results may vary. But a good way of keeping it fresh. God Bless and peace be with you and your child....

This is awesome, i run it thru my phone thru a subwoofer everynight and sleep awesome, to me this is more pleasurable because it seems more like brown noise than white noise, it is a lower frequency. Also in the category of brown noise is interior of aircraft at cruising altitude, that is also very relaxing. Anyways, sleep on

There's something incredibly soothing about how secluded and seemingly "non-interesting" the place in the video is. Just a couple of ventilation turbines right? Just some heavy machinery. No one would care to hang out in that place, with that noise. But we who enjoy machinery sound would. I don't know what it is but I'd love to just sit down there and let the sound take me away for a while

There's a reassuring quality to these sounds and visuals that create a safe haven for people to relax and meditate or sleep.
It's just mesmerizing. The water and how it behaves under the air and the pressure of the turbines. That , in combination with the sound , could make me stare at it for hours completely unaware and uninterested of anything else happening in the surrounding.
This is a very good sound. I like that it's loud and capable of blocking out a good amount of neighbor noise. It's even loud enough to annoy them back and make them be quiet by playing it through the ceiling at them. It's also interesting to see an industrial AC. I've never seen one before. I like watching the churning water. I would actually like to know exactly how it works because it's very cool.

So you must have those kind of neighbors too. I finally got a good quiet neighbor up there after 17 years of noise torture and sleep deprivation.
It works by the evaporation effect. When water evaporates it absorbs heat from the surrounding area. That makes the air above the water cooler (and more humid) than the air around it. Fans push that cooler air through the duct work to cool other areas. Since it is due to evaporation it is normally only efficient in areas which have low humidity.

Oh man, this type of noise has been part of my life for 30 years, me+my brothers used to build "dens" right next to out big generator,, it was outside backed onto a concrete wall, it had a huge hinged lid.. It gave off a heat, but also as the fan/turbine was spinning it was super cold.. Great memories...

I think your right!!! I thought that I was the only one for a long time. I have been falling asleep to the sound of running water since I was a wee one. I can contribute this to being in the whom and wanting to go back, ever since I naturally entered this crazy world. I ask my mom to let me back in but she told me that she could not see her self lasting another 9 minutes let alone another 9 months being prego.

I have played white noise to aid my sleep since being real young, I was always told I was mad I even thought I was mad likeing such a noise , I have never understood why it makes me so relaxed, my skin tingles when its cold in the room and I'm under my nice warm bed covers. I have always wished I could find someone to talk about there love of white noise with, IS THAT YOU ?. I'm nice not mad ! lol .

Things like vacuum cleaners,ac,teapots,coffee machines and car heating/engine always made me super sleepy because they give me a sensation of warmth.

We must hear all manner of noises and vibrations, spiritual renderings too. I've had many favorite memories waking at dawn to see the new snow while cuddled under a blanket next to a furnace heat outlet with my brothers.
