A song titled "You're the Best" performed by Joe Esposito was recorded for the film. But Stallone rejected it in favor of Survivor's "Eye of the Tiger". "You're the Best" was later used in The Karate Kid.
I wanted to see what the opening montage of Rocky III would look like in an alternate universe.
A lot of people don’t realize that this song was actually written for this movie and this exact montage to be specific, but Stallone passed in favor of Eye of the Tiger. That’s why the song fits so well with the montage
It fits well for this part and the training with apollo too
The lyrics even contain boxing specific phrases such as "reach the final bell". I learned about this song originally written for Rocky 3 about 10 years ago and always wondered how it would pair with the movie. Ultimately, I think it all worked out for the best. Although "Another One Bites the Dust" would have worked pretty well in the opening scene.

I think this should have been the song and eye of the tiger should have been the training

I’m glad Stallone didn’t use this song, it was a perfect fit for the Karate Kid.

The song needed to be a little stronger for this. Credit to Stallone. Eye of the Tiger worked better for Rocky and this song was better for the younger and softer karate kid.

Eye of the tiger didn’t really have that underdog/I’m rooting for him vibe for karate kid but “you’re the best” fits both movies very well because rocky is a superstar at the height of his prime which eye of the tiger fits with and you’re the best is good too because it can be viewed as an extension of the last movie where rocky was the underdog instead of the beginning of this movie

Well done! I think this song works MUCH better for this montage, and is very Rocky-like. Now that he is the champion, Rocky was now famous at this point. He was indeed the "best around." BUT, he had also gotten civilized and lost the "eye of the tiger." That is why he lost to Lang. "The Eye of the Tiger" should have been saved for the end of the movie, when Apollo helps Rocky to find it again.

Eye of the Tiger was more inline with the general theme of the movie so definitely the more appropriate choice, but this song is perfectly fitting on it's own merits.
I'm glad Sly went with Eye of the Tiger though.

Eye of the Tiger I believe was made extremely late in production. Just putting You're The Best with this video shows it indeed was meant to be placed here.

Interesting! I think this works better than Another One Bites the Dust, which someone else created a video for. Eye of the Tiger of course works best (maybe it’s just because of 35+ years of familiarity?) but I think all 3 of the proposed songs work well.

Another One Bites The Dust was never intended to be in the movie. The producers used it just so they could have a song for the montage in pre-production.

That song, "The Best" was recycled by the Karate Kid; and to be honest, I think "Eye of the Tiger" nailed it; although in its absence this would have sufficed.
