    I had a '98 that was the same car, even the color was the same. Broken inside and outside door handles are common on the Corolla. I had to replace two outside ones and three inside ones. The 1ZZ-FE was known for burning oil, because from '98-'02, they had defective piston rings from the factory. I had mine for 6 years, and aside from burning some oil, it was super reliable.

    I have a 1995 Corolla automatic, I bought with 240,000 miles, base model , auto, 1.7, manual locks and windows, for $600. Now has around 270,000 miles on it, but runs good and is reliable , need to replace the valve cover gasket, maybe do a tune up, and it has a exhaust leak from the flex pipe. Has rust under the rear passenger doors , They aren’t a fast car but I like them. The door handles are broken bc they are made with cheap plastic.

    That is a nice Corolla... some things are really worth saving from the junkyard. Hopefully, all goes well repairing it. Also, at 0:53, was the red car to the left a Mazda RX-7 or a Mitsubishi 3000GT? It seemed nice, what was wrong with it? Anyway, nice video, and keep up the great work! I'm a new subscriber to the channel, so I'm excited to see your next videos soon! :)

    I helped my friend Janine pick up a 99 corolla LE yesterday! 335000km runs like a champ. Fully loaded budddyyy color keyed door handles .. Power options my goodness! For sure like a Honda but lasts longer. She was looking at a cr-v I couldn't recommend it when I saw the rolla on Craigslist. We got it home last night, heading for a pre-inspection today. Wish us luck! Atlantic Canada has got some mighty stiff inspection requirements 😲

    Got some bad news. Just sold my mom 98 basic 3sp auto trans Corolla late March. Mechanic guy was happy to buy it with over 283k miles. He test drove it, showed him all the parts I had replaced since Fall 2018, and said its all good just I can tell the Cat Converter is kinda clogged, he left happy. Now its kinda sad. Mom was original owner, now to its new home.

    If you're getting chattering or intermittent squeaking from under the bonnet on any '90s Toyota it's worth checking out the idler rollers on the auxiliary belts. If you live somewhere subject to high temperatures they tend to dry out and get noisy faster than you might expect, though pretty much anywhere they tend to have had their day by about 100,000 miles. If you leave them and they seize they can snap or throw off the belt which can leave you with no water pump and a cooked engine. Plus I do know of cases where the belt going has taken the air conditioner compressor clutch assembly with it which isn't cheap, even assuming the clutch pack is a separate part, on some compressors the clutch pack is integral so the only fix is a replacement compressor...

      this one is rolling coal, I presume the valve stem seals are shot. but it runs good, so we will just get as much life as we can out of this engine until I can find a lower mile engine to swap

  • @kdmq
    @kdmq Před 3 lety

    If you have a chatter on a 1ZZ engine it might be timing chain rattle. You just replace the entire timing set with revised tensioners, it takes many many hours to do the job but if done correctly one chain can last 3-5 hundred thousand km.

    • @MXguy95
      @MXguy95  Před 8 lety

      sounds like it's time to find a new junkyard. remember what I've said before, this isn't actually a junkyard. it's a metal recycling yard. and people junk cars here for their metal weight value. that's why they are so cheap, theyre not looking at it as a car. they just see a piece of metal. now if this was a junkyard, they would probably be alot more expensive too.

    • @777warhero
      @777warhero Před 8 lety

      Do they have titles at a scrap yard? I thought they just took the car the way it is.

    • @MXguy95
      @MXguy95  Před 8 lety +2

      +argonian bilbo sometimes they have titles sometimes they dont. they run a check to make sure they aren't stolen or have title loans. if they do they can't recycle them. literally it's just a piece of metal to them. we remove the wheels and tires for rubber and aluminum recycling. the gas and oil is drained and seperated into reservoirs. then we remove the catalytic converters, mufflers, etc. alternators. starters, and radiators. all for their copper or valuable metals. then whatever is left is crushed and sent off to a meltdown plant where it gets turned into a new product. but this process takes time. so if we find a car that's in ok or save able shape we will get it before it gets recycled. and that's why I call so many of my videos "rescues" or "saves" because this is literally the end of the line for most of these cars. some of them with little to nothing wrong other then the crackhead owners needed cash to get their next fix... :(

      @@WalterKnox, I have no idea what you're talking about with Fords. I drive one that has the 4.0 engine and in the ten years I've owned it I've never had one problem with it's engine or the three previous Rangers and Explorers I wore out. I feel about GM like I do about those cursed Toyotas mainly because they are union junk and built so crudely I'm surprised any of them stay on the road for very long. As for the cursed Toyota's I know they are built here in this country for the most part but the profits don't stay here. They go right back to Japan, their mother country. Japan's automotive industry has all but wrecked America's and I refuse to own ANY vehicle that they sell. So, from your comment I can only assume you own one of the damned things, so enjoy it. I just happen to be a Vietnam era vet that still believes in America and try as much as I can to support OUR people and MY country!

    • @WalterKnox
      @WalterKnox Před 3 lety

      @@richardcline1337 yeah, okay buddy. my best friend was in Vietnam, he just passed away, he drove a toyota because he got tired of the American cars that are always broken at 200,000 miles. and you are aware fords are union made as well right? yes, i own a toyota and a volvo, they are both over 20 years old, so no money went to the company when I bought them but honestly I only care where the money goes to an extent, yes if american cars were actually good then I would love to support those companies, but when they are selling inferior products, I will not spend hard earned money on them. american cars are just not made to the standard they used to be (nothing is anymore) but even the semi modern toyotas will outlast the american ones. now if we are talking about real cars made way back, then the big boaty american cars are great. and the union is just another reason their cars fall apart. fords trucks might be mostly okay, but their cars suck. if I really need to list off the make, model and year of each american car we have had fail I will do that, and I can tell you that most of them failed before 200,000 miles whereas it is not uncommon to see an older toyota like the one in this video still running around with 400,000 miles on it. look on the road, there are TONS of this generation of corolla still around, but their competitor from ford (the ford contour) are almost all gone, and it is rare to see one still on the road. we actually used to have one of those that died at 84,000 miles. complete transmission failure.

    • @WalterKnox
      @WalterKnox Před 3 lety

      @@richardcline1337 sure, the imports killed off the American cars... but they were better products that lasted a lot longer at a lot less prices, the American cars of the time were all huge bland boats that guzzled gas and fell apart. now I would love an old long Cadillac, but if you just compared the products, their lifespan and the price... it is obvious why the American cars were mostly killed off. maybe if they weren't so stuck in their ways and adapted then they wouldn't have had that happen.
