  • I've seen antenna launchers before, I own a tennis ball launcher and have used it many times. Nothing even comes close to the cannon I'm about to show you. With this Freedom Cannon, you can launch a tennis ball several thousand feet. A Must watch.

    Not sure that's legal here in Commyfornia. Oh wait, it's a single shot so we're good (for now).

    Wow, congrats to Dustin, very cool! Thanks Bob for the great video, hams are so inventive. If I ever go in a park in Canada with a thing like this people are going to call the police for sure, hihi. 73 Pascal VA2PV

    In the PRNJ (People's Republic of New Jersey), this is considered an assault weapon and could put you in prison for possessing it.

    I am thinking this could get a 160 meter dipole up a half a wave length. No more cloud burner wire antennas.

    Bob, your tennis ball launcher is smaller than Dustin's tennis ball launcher.
    But you have a more interesting personality. ;-) hahah

    But how good does it shoot spuds?
    Next up, how to build an antenna launcher that puts your antenna in geostationary orbit.

    I built one of these a long while back for my son and dog and can easily clear 69ft trees with tennis ball. I would like to see guys actually put the wire up into the tree then retrieve it. Building the cannon is not as interesting as how your use it in a practical manner.

    • @K6UDA
      @K6UDA  Před 5 lety +2

      We routinely put wire over 100 ft trees and pull them back out when we're done playing.

    • @K6TJO
      @K6TJO Před 5 lety +2

      K6UDA it would be great to see you do that

      I prefer a bow and arrow. Nothing to build and a full size compound bow is more powerful. A kids youth bow will reach about 60-70ft depending on what size fishing like you use and how much weight you add to the arrow. But using the size line he used in this video is big time over kill! Use 10 lbs fishing line first. Then attach the stronger line and pull it over next.
      But retrieving it is easy! Maybe your not following the procedure. Its videos showing deploying. But you basically use enough line to reach from ground, over the tree and back down. Then tie the antenna to the line, pull it up and tie off the line. To retrieve it you untie the line and unless its stuck it will usually fall on its own.
      It helps if you have help. Have the helper pull on the antenna to keep it out of the limbs on its way down. Especially on a sloper configuration. I prefer using two trees and a dipole strung between them. When you untie one end it doesn't tend to fall into the limbs as bad as say a end fed in a sloper configuration.
      Plus it all depends on how permanent you need it to be. For a few hours just use fishing line. For a few days use at least 50lbs test line. For more than that dacron is best. Plus figure in the size / weight if the antenna and feed line. Like for a 160M dipole it needs to be strong!
      I go camping a lot for a couple weeks at a time and 20lb fishing line works just fine for even a 80M dipole. Plus if it breaks fishing line is cheap! Just shoot and pull over anther one.
