      @@sunilb7325 IE and IESE would both be unusual choices for the elite consulting or finance jobs, since neither is known to be a feeder into those industries, compared to other brands in the region. There are also language challenges to be aware of. From the names you've shared, we'd pick McCombs as it gives you access to not only a bigger market for consulting/finance jobs, it also offers the internship to get a foot in the door.

    Does an ed-tech company sales job such as Byju's, Jaro's, Toppr add any reasonable value to the profile for an ex-software engineer(1 year) BE CS Indian male if the MBA specialization most preferred at the moment of the application is marketing? These jobs are cold calling and field sales based ones. Prior experience is around a year as a software engineer in a product based mid-sized MNC.
    These ed-tech companies offer 50-60k INR in hand per month apart from sales bonuses of course, was working for 30k in hand previously for a year, 50-60k not bad for a recent graduate as long as a continuum is maintained in the profile.
    The career pathways I have in mind post the MBA are product management, management or IT consultant/business analyst etc.
    I've decided not to get back into coding again and other technical roles.
    Please advise Sameer Saarji. High appreciation in advance!

      These companies are loaded with VC/PE money and are going full-throttle on acquiring customers. What you need to find out is - what happens after their focus changes? Do they have a clear career path beyond the initial cold-calling? If not, then it may not help you grow in the company. And the high salaries will make it tough for other companies to hire you. Don't take the call based purely on the salary.

    Hi Sameer. I am interested in pursuing MBA from Aus. I've two options. One is UWA and other is Melbourne Business School. Like people say for Masters in Computer that It doesn't matter from which university you graduate, employers treat everyone as same. Is this true for both courses Masters in Computer Science and MBA?
    And also what is the highly sought MBA program which asks for higher GMAT score, is it marketing, finance or something else?

    Take Aussie business education with a pinch of salt. The aussie market has little to offer when it comes to capital goods or brands that have gone global. That basically tells a lot about innovative thinking/R&D on the ground and the spirit of enterprise. Australia is predominantly a retail/service based economy where global brands set up subsidiary shops. A lot of its wealth comes from natural assets through mining and thats why Australia manages to sustain as a tier1 country. If you want a MBA and want to realise value, seek business education in the USA/Europe/India.I have lived in OZ for 7 years and this view is from experience.
    Having said all this the credible schools to study are UNSW or MBS. Rest are all hybrids of polytechnics which offer little value at the point of fresh hire in and outside of Australia.I just feel that universities that don't ask for high SAT/GMAT/GRE scores are not worth and Australian universities don't have such a test score system and this is so critical to ensure quality. Also your best bet is to view global MBA rankings where I doubt any of the Aussie universities are in the top 20/50.

      Most top ranking MBA programs are highly rigorous, which means managing the academic workload can itself be a big challenge. Hi Sameer , this is regarding my prospects of getting into a MBA program in the US or Canada. Just to let you know , I actually have messed up my undergrad. Due to multiple backlogs (I'm an engineering student), ideally I should've graduated by now , but I'd be graduating 3 years later from now in 2022 due to gap years incurred from my poor academic performances. I know it already sounds highly unimpressive , but do you think I can compensate for it through the GMAT and other academic achievements ? By the way I'm also aiming for a CFA charter , and I'd be earning my CQF certificate sometime in july. Will extracurricular activities in college and outside of it ,help me prove my abilities that the B-schools require ?

    • @MBACrystalBall
      @MBACrystalBall  Před 4 lety

      What was the reason for the poor performance? If it's something that can be justified, then you may be able to reduce the adverse impact on any subsequent degree (like an MBA). Here are some more thoughts: www.mbacrystalball.com/blog/2015/04/13/managing-low-academic-grades-gpa-mba-applications/

      @@MBACrystalBall Technically speaking , I am not much inclined to engineering and interested more in subjects related to business and Finance. But I was told by my peers that foreign universities usually need a four year Bachelor's degree . So it won't make sense if I did a Bcom or other similar degrees because they are a three year course . So Engineering was the only choice. And moreover there is also a lack of reputed courses in the field of Business and Finance in our Country.
      My only concern is , can I justify my past underperformance by scoring exceptionally well in the coming semesters ?

    • @MBACrystalBall
      @MBACrystalBall  Před 4 lety

      You'll find stories of BCom grads on our blog who've cracked into top bschools. It wasn't the right decision to follow peer group's advice. Most of them have a theoretically knowledge, but not aware of the implications of such decisions. Anyway, all that's water under the bridge now.
      Your best bet would be to focus on getting into a good job and building up an impressive list of accomplishments. And yes, the other aspects like GMAT score, extra curriculars are important, but important to know that they won't change the academic records (specifically the years lost).

    • @madhisathya2766
      @madhisathya2766 Před 4 lety

      @@MBACrystalBall That's right, it's not the right thing to follow peers , but according to my own research that seems to be true to a large extent . As per the websites of USC and UC San Diego and many other universities, they did mention their required UG degree to be a 4 year bachelor's. Also as per my observations, it's extremely rare to see people with 3 year bachelor's getting into the Ivy league's these days , or not as common as it used to be before . The middle tier MBA schools seem to be requiring a 4 year bachelor's degree , and their acceptance rates are slightly on the higher side for instance in the 30-40% range.
      Also what's your thought on the CFA ? Will clearing atleast level 1 before applying help me prove my academics in someway ? Or even level 2 ? Because the deadlines for spring intake are somewhere around the months of Aug - Sep and the CFA results are usually declared way before this time interval.
      If I happen to apply , do you think if I hold a chance in the middle tier B-schools?

    • @MBACrystalBall
      @MBACrystalBall  Před 4 lety

      True, that's what we meant by theoretical knowledge - most bschools do ask for 16 years of experience. But some don't. We've written extensively on that on our blog. Here's our view on CFA: www.mbacrystalball.com/blog/2018/07/04/cfa-in-mba-admissions/
      You can get in touch with some program offices and ask them if your academic background would be an issue when you apply to their program. If eligibility isn't an issue for them, you can go ahead and give it your best shot.

      You have a good profile, and the advantage of being under-represented in the application pool. You'd be severely limiting your options and growth potential, if you restrict yourself to a handful of bschools due to a lack of awareness. Check out our views and recommendation on going for an MBA in India vs Abroad to see you find them logical.

      Work for a few years and then consider an international MBA. Or look at other Masters programs that don't need experience.

    Having backlogs in Engineering Curriculum would bother my MBA Abroad admissions despite of having an above average Gmat-Gre (even top score) and couple of years of job experience?
    Would i be able to make into top MBA schools with the above stated conditions?

    • @MBACrystalBall
      @MBACrystalBall  Před 4 lety

      Bschools ask for academic transcripts, so they'll know about the backlogs and it will influence their decisions. The lower you go in the rankings, the less focus they'd have on the grades. You can apply to a mix of programs to spread out the risk.

    Hi Sameer,
    Greetings of the day!
    I have read most of your post on MBA abroad and have seen videos on CZcams as well. Still, I am in dilemma to pursue MEM from the USA ,MBA from India or from Canada. I have 2.7 years of experience in TCS as Storage and backup Admin but don't have much to write in application about my job, though I have good extra curricular achievements (I was President of IETE -Banasthali Chapter, Head Girl of my school, was in NSS).
    I have completed my B.Tech (Electronics & Instrumentation) from Banasthali University, batch 2017.
    Please help.

    • @MBACrystalBall
      @MBACrystalBall  Před 4 lety +1

      Hi Saumya, with the experience you have, a mainstream MBA will be a better fit than an MEM which generally attracts freshers. A ton of folks who apply to MBA programs are from tech backgrounds, who think they have nothing special to offer. But a little more introspection and structured application planning should help you come up with many interesting facets to highlight. For starters, your extra curricular achievements would be a good area to focus on.

      It gets tough with the elite schools, but those lower down might be open to it. You can reach out to the admissions team of some programs and ask them if they'd encourage you to apply. If they say yes, work towards putting in the strongest possible application.

      We don't have a list of such programs, since applicants working with us don't target them. You'll have to do the research independently, starting from the top and then going down. Won't take too much time to create a template email and send it to multiple bschools.
