@@Theology.101 Yea. In the disney trilogy the first order having essentially unlimited resources bugged the hell out of me because 'you're working off a bunch of imperial assets. Starkiller base shouldh ave been like.... the majority of everything they had to the point the ships were literally starkille'rs support/defense fleet.
@@singletona082@singletona082 If you pay attention to TFA, that's exactly what Abrams seems to have been trying to go for, which RJ ruined when he made TLJ. Notice how TFO goes from a small paramilitary group so inconsequential that TNR decides not to deal with them to TFO being the new galactic government offscreen, even though the story picks up right where we left off with no time jump.
@@timon6759To be fair to RJ, it's not like Disney had _anything_ planned in advance. Their sole strategy was "make everything up as we go along" and the writers and directors thus hardly had anything to work with.
Man, the resistance being smart ended up killing most of the main characters.

You misunderstood the bombers. They are for tragic backstories, not for military use silly!
I was thinking, you know how you make that scene work? Make it the halfway point of the movie. We get to know Rose and Her sister, then have the Dreadnaught show up as they are trying to escape, they can't jump, and the things siege cannons will kill them, so Poe leads a desperate attack on it, throwing literally all of their starships, and then you have it play out basically the same, even have them say that the bombers would normally not be used but the ship's armor is so strong it's all they have that can hurt it. And then have it play out basically the same.
@@invidatauro8922 yes but what if instead of that smart idea, we gave a no name ball gunner a WWII B17 bomb run scene at the start of the film and had her heroically killed while clutching a pendant that we know nothing about, have no attachments to the character, and has literally no impact whatsoever.
@@Ceece20Sadly true… the medallion served little more purpose than to simply tell the audience that the two characters were associated in some way. Then they proceeded to verbally tell us that they were associated (sisters). Why bother with the medallion if you’re gonna tell us everything anyway?
@@invidatauro8922 the scene still struggles because the bombers were a tactical nightmare. Apparently, in addition to their horrendous speed, they also had no shields, and artificial gravity was (technically) restricted to the cockpit and the room above the bomb bay. They were floating, not flying, matchboxes that had to get so close to the target that the question wasn’t whether they’d survive, but whether they’d take their enemy down with them.
It’d be clinically insane to genuinely pitch this idea to a military organization, and even more so to be the general who approved it.
@@GGBlaster It could've been easily fixed by just giving them shields, more turrets, and just having them get overwhelmed by fighters.
Maybe have it so that Poe is overconfident in his own abilities to keep them safe, and then have even him be getting overwhelmed by the sheer number of ships?
Wouldn't that be a good "Subversion" of expectations, to have the best pilot LOSE the opening fight of the movie instead of win?
You know what pisses me off? Those fucking writers want more than 70k for their jobs when here we are, coming up with better shit for free.
Finn and Rey getting incinerated made me laugh so fricking hard, I'm glad I live alone cuz I basically shouted lol.
And obviously the work is amazing. The artists did an incredible job, it felt damn near seamless overlayed the original video.

THough, I still think 1,000 dumb bombs could be useful if they were launched out by a rail cannon or something like that instead of dropped. Against capital class ships that are slow as hell to maneuver, it would be devastating to be peppered by them.
Iirc, B-Wings are superior in every way. Faster, more guns, higher ordenance load, tougher shields and hull.
And they look fing cool.
I like how by the time the Star Fortresses get into position, the X-wings and Y-wings already took everything out. The fortresses did nothing.
It shows their uselessness, especially for a small paramilitary group specializing in guerilla (hit and run) tactics.

Meanwhile one X wing destroys all of its Anti fighter point defense the Y wings could have easily crippled its engines and bridge at least the returned to a resistance ship to rearm to finish the job..... hell have an Astromech plot a hyperspace jump through the Dreadnought since hyperspace ramming is apparently a viable tactic according to Disney that would have packed more destructive power then all the glorified WW2 Bombers put together.

Hyperdrive ramming with a hyperspace equipped fighter is no more of a loss than then if that fighter was shot down by a Tie, the hyperdrive is still lost either way but the hyperspace ramming option at least will cause severe damage if not outright gutting the whole ship in one go Disney opened Pandoras box by including that.

Do not consider Hyperspace ramming, it's not practical, there's a reason why Hyperspace ramming wasn't used until the Last Jedi, Hyperdrives are not cheap, they're expensive.

In other words, it's the Resistance's assault on Starkiller Base, but its so done so quickly and so effectively, that no one on the inside is able to escape, essentially killing off ~75% of the trilogy's cast.
At least Wasted Potential survived

@@aidanhelfrich4887 I'd say a fleet commander of the Navy would probably adapt faster to space battles with big ships and fighters. Air Force would do fine with aircraft inside an atmosphere, but whole space ships with that logistics in space where attacks come from all sides, I don't know. I'd trust an Imperial Class Stardestroyer a Navy Captain more than I'd trust it an Air Force Colonel for space battles.
This is how it would go too. Its a military op, no f-s given for the dramatic scenes with the 'main cast'

You forget that those Last Jedi bombers can only go 1mph, so slow that you need a dozen fighters hovering around it like flies, and so ineffective that their massive bulk with their insanely slow speed unable to reach any destination without getting hammered makes them entirely useless, when the hell did the alliance decide to forgo b-wings and y-wings??
Don't forget the beast that was the K-wing bomber. So many bombs and heavy cannons.

In this version the resistance is not stupid so they probably made them better.
It all tracks back to when the alliance procurement agency was integrated with the alliance logistics organisation to form alliance equipment and support managing to create the worst of both rather than the intended best of both!
IIRC, the excuse they came up with is that they were intended to do what the B-17 did during WWII - namely, carpet bomb stationary targets. In this case, orbital strikes on Imperial weapons factories and the like where the Disney New Republic had orbital superiority but not enough ground troops for the job.
But honestly that can easily have been done by a Corellian Gunship and in a much more effective package too. Or since you'd probably have one carrying them in anyways, have the Mon Cal Crusiers just turbolaser the target for a while... anything that can stop that would stop these things.
On top of that those things were apparently gravity based deployment (?????) and had open bays. It's like the designers had SO much nostalgia for WWII design in mind that they totally forgot they weren't doing an airplane scene, but a SPACE SHIP scene

It's pretty hilarious how the writers gave their Death Star 3.0. the extremely overused "Starkiller" name. That shows how little they cared about making something original

Man I liked the fact that the Resistance , actually used the Y-wings and sent more than a Few X-Wings against a Multiple planet killer, that made the battle more cinematic. And also the Star Fortress did nothing because they are too slow, Lol.
The Resistance fighters were in and out so quick the First Order didn’t even manage to scramble fighters, those TIEs at the end were probably the only survivors of Starkiller Base outside of the Resistance aircrews
You blow up a planetary base by, errr... shooting at around 1 km^2 of installations? I wonder who did their security, fire drill and emergency procedures :/

The Starfortresses actually dropped their bombs in this video, slow it to 0.25 speed when the Oculator(?) blows up at 1:19 and you'll see the bombs actually fall, but they're really small, so, no, the bombers didn't do nothing.
I don't know why, but the idea of simply using all three starfighters in this way just makes my RTS brain happy.

Thank you so much for finally giving that design the spotlight, even if it was just an April fools joke, that is one of my absolute favorite designs from @ECHenry and I was always sad to see it never really got used.

The Starfortesses were designed for bombing groups targets such as these . And they had a proper fighter screen here

That shot at 00:08 made me happy, man that's what the Resistance should've been. A Military extension of the Republic that was designed to put down any signs of Imperial resurgence, and having the resources, manpower and firepower to do so.

This is straight up far better than the whole Sequel trilogy.
There are more B-17s at the exploding reactor than coming out of hyperspace.
What you saw is what would happen if the resistance bombers were faster than 0.004 km per hour.
I assume that those Y-Wings designed by EC Henry were refitted by the resistance to be bomb capable again, as this upgraded version of the ship was actually created for search and rescue/long range reconnaissance.

It still makes no sense to me that the Rebels won the battle of Endor but never took back Ilum, especially when Luke would have a direct interest which would bring the Rebels/Resistance attention to Ilum. And I hate that Ilum is gone.

I still find it’s so ridiculous if the walls had no weaknesses whatsoever, what’s the difference from having a freaking bomb from the inside than the outside it’s the same material. Either way with the Death Star . It made some sense that if you go for the main reactor core, the entire thing will implode on itself well explode in the movies.
How on earth does it make sense that a space station the size of a moon gets destroyed by two torpedos? That's like saying it makes sense that a small A-Wing can down a ship the size of the Executor, or a transport ship can destroy a fleet of Star Destroyers.
Sure, it happened, multiple times, but it makes no sense.
@@enskje one in the new hope when Luke shoots down into the reactor shaft, he use the force the force guided the ion torpedo and blew up. The reactor of the death star creates enough energy to blow up the planet, so it makes sense if the reactor got severely damaged, and that critical mass it blew up, it would destroy it the thing that it resides in goes for the same thing for the death star 2 they went in there and blew it up makes total logical sense, because the reactor is the weak point and can create enough energy to destroy it. On the other hand star base killer they have walls for this reactor that is cannot be penetrated from the outside, so it makes no sense. Why would it be penetrate from the inside, and when the bomb went off It only created a hole for the X to go into and not destroy the entire thing. It don’t make no sense why star killer was destroyed at all.

It's basically the equivalent of blowing up the nuclear reactor of an aircraft carrier by throwing a screwdriver at it. If it works, the engineers fucked up big time, force or not.
God can you imagine, we would never have had to deal with Last Jedi or Rise....
But without Rey Skywalker, who will stop Palpatine when he somehow returns?

Good animation. I get you obviously want a battle for cinema purposes, but that doesn’t mean you have you nerf the Resistance down to X-Wings. They had Y-Wings for the Death Star. I would have had Finn deactivate their shields, but Han Solo and the gang have to rush to destroy some new First Order AA-Flack turrets that are keeping the Y-Wings and the B-Wings from completing their attack runs. They run into Kylo, the whole bomb setting plot line happens, you get the cinematic battle, but you don’t have to nerf the Resistance down to just X-Wings and make them look stupid.
Those weren’t B-Wings, dingus.

A funny VFX exercise, but kinda defeats the purpose to call the Resistance stupid when the premise of the video seems to entirely overlook that the base reactor couldn't be attacked before the shields were down.
The shields were already down before this point though.
@@jamesgoodman186 You are correct. I mixed it up with the hull breach. The problem was that the Resistance couldn't get through the hull because their bombing runs didn't do enough damage. That wasn't until Chewie blew up the explosives inside and Poe could enter through the hull breach.
First time the Resistance is being smart about things. 😂
Disney Starkiller Base: Remnants of Ilum left from Palpatine strip mining the planets Kyber formations, rebuilt into a big cannon that fires shatter shots through hyperspace tunnels. Takes longer to charge than the Death Star and still has the gaping hole as its weak point. Now do one where the First Order isn't stupid, they detect the Resistance as soon as they exit hyperspace and launch TIEs way before the Resistance reaches the oscillator.

Because then it wouldn't have been an exact copy of a new hope; where the Alliance only sent their X and Y wings.
Of course, in ANH it made sense why they did that. Here, not so much.

This one, they were facing a literal fortress base planet, so yeah, they could have sent a small Fleet. Nit just x-wings it would have been for good distractions Han solo and the others were even smart enough to do a small commando unit thing.

It’s not like the First Order occupied everything at this point in time.
The New Republic was essentially ignoring the potential threat of the First Order. There were 2 main factions in the NR.
One group essentially believed in peace at all costs.
The other was Imperial loyalists who were working with the FO.
Got rid of most of their weapons/ships because Mon Mothma is dumb af
The Resistance was essentially a rogue paramilitary group established by Leia because the New Republic wasn't taking the emergence of the First Order seriously. As for the New Republic itself, it was apparently completely destroyed when Starkiller Base wiped out the Hosnian system, where the capital and the entire NR fleet was located (because I guess that's all they had to govern an entire galaxy🙄).
That's what I've gathered from the scraps of canon lore I've ran across on Wookieepedia over the years. I can't be bothered to look into such lazy, slapdash worldbuilding any further than that.

I always thought a cool idea would be to make star killer a Planet with a dual biome so that one side could have the snow and be inhospitable and the other side is the Canto Bite casino planet to really hammer home the idea that the first order has diehard supporters who live in palatial wealth on a literal super weapon.
i will say it until the day i die, Starkiller base was revealed way too early, it shouldve been saved for the 9th movie as the big final weapon of the first order that could be used as the stage of the ultimate final battle, where the legacy characters reunited to finally defeat the sith once and for all, where the skywalker sage would end with Luke defeating the reborn emperor but since this trilogy was as planned as a teenage pregnancy we got a lazy fleat of recycled ships with massive plot poin… i mean weakspots on the bottom, a contrived ticking clock for the sake of a ticking clock and only two of the original trilogy characters in the final battle because the other two got killed off by bad writing (im not including leia there because nothing can change Carie Fisher’s unfortunate passing) I hate the sequal trilogy not becase it was badly written, (thats a given) i hate it becasue so much potential for a true sequal to the legendary original trilogy was simply wasted becasue of poor planning and contrived plot points that make zero sense
Let's be honest, if Kylo had met Legends Han, whose reaction when Jacen fell into the Dark Side was "I should have thrown that bastard out the window the day he was born", instead of his pathetic Disney version, there's no way he could have killed him. That emo kid would have started crying the moment the true Han showed up!

Asking the "Resistance" to not be stupid is a _tall order._
The only problem I have with this is that they did not radio to the infiltration team that they are attacking - the Infiltration team which took down planetary shield.
I assume that because the planet is partially hollowed out, it has a smaller mass shadow than it used to = there is a space under planetary shield into which a ship can jump, if it is precise enough. Han and Millennium Falcon is the perfect combination to do something like that.
(I assume that first order set the planetary shield to be under mass shadow, but then hollowed the planet and not re-configured the shield)
I do agree that this would've been a better moment to introduce the Star Fortresses. Whether or not they would've done well here... well that's up to discretion, but they definitely would've served better being introduced here.
Totally awesome! I think you're onto something and can build upon this to make it an even epic battle! For instance, after the First Order's first strike on Hosnian, they must have been on alert to anticipate a counter strike, so there should have been an epic first battle above Ilum or somewhere along the way to the thermal oscillator. Once there, there would have to be a final fight over the oscillator itself as the fighters clear out the ground emplacements for the bombers make their run. If they had enough bombers, the oscillator would have gone boom and then it would have been an epic escape for Han and co. as the planet goes boom.
....But I guess if we're making this more epic, then the oscillator would have survived or the bombing run failed, so then as Poe orders the retreat and fights the rear guard, Han and co. says they're gonna stay and make a last ditch attempt at infiltrating the oscillator and blowing it up themselves. Knowing that this is their target, Ren takes a company of stormtroopers there to defend it, and I guess at this point the plot goes pretty much the same as in TFA with Han trying to make plea to Ben and the det packs make a crack in the oscillator. Then Poe and what's left of the fighters make a last ditch trench run as Finn and Rey make their way back to the Falcon, only for them to be confronted by Kylo themselves. I love that you have the accompanying Y-Wings blow a bigger hole rather than just escorting Poe and flying off, so while they do that, Finn falls and Rey summons the force and beats Ren, Poe impregnates the oscillator, oscillator goes boom and Leia is hearbroken but saved! What's left of the resistance flies home, Chewy roars, Maz give's him a medal, The Last Jedi and Duel of the Fates can be rewritten so that it actually pleases everyone, yaaay! :)
This would've been the perfect mission for the Resistance "bomber" fleet. A shame they were wasted in the dumbest way possible.
