It is the host's role to call out b******* when they are doing a report straight to camera, but that role changes when conducting an interview. In the latter situation hosts should play devil's advocate and then fact check the responses. Katy Tur did a good job here and I wish more people would recognise it. We all hate when we see, read, or hear, reports of Republican politicians being granted softball interviews, so let's not cheerlead for politicians on our side of the debate to get the same treatment. The Republican viewpoint must be aired so that it can be demolished.

You do get right that an interviewer can be a vegetarian for example and be interviewing someone promoting the benefits and positives of vegetarianism, yet the interviewer can still make certain points or ask the interviewee certain questions that can be perceived as negatives, in order for the interviewee to counter those?
It is called playing Devil's advocate and does not be default mean they represent the interviewer's own views.
