  • This process is triggered by hormonal signals, typically associated with the suckling action of the puppies. Here's how it typically happens:
1️⃣ Stimulation: When the puppies suckle at the mother's teats, it stimulates nerve endings in the mammary glands.
2️⃣ Hormonal Release: This stimulation triggers the release of the hormone oxytocin from the mother's brain. Oxytocin is responsible for causing the muscle cells around the mammary glands to contract.
3️⃣ Milk Ejection: As the muscle cells contract, they squeeze the milk ducts, pushing the milk towards the nipples, where it can be sucked by the puppies.
4️⃣ Letdown Reflex: This entire process is known as the "letdown reflex." It typically occurs a few seconds after the puppies begin suckling and allows milk to flow freely, providing nourishment to the puppies.
As the milk starts flowing, puppies might suckle more eagerly, sensing the extra milk. You might hear the puppies gulping down the milk, showing they're enjoying it. 😍 In a litter, there could be a bit of competition for mom's teats, especially when the milk's flowing fast. Puppies often look content & relaxed while nursing, lying down comfortably. Some puppies might even wag their tails or purr-like, showing how happy they are. 🐾
