only saw him live once, Sydney in the 80s, unforgettable, some young fan ran onto stage, bouncers were about to flatten the guy, Rory shielded him and they sang ShadowPlay together, the entire theatre went bats as the fan sank to his feet at the end of the song and washed Rorys feet with our collective tears of admiration

Good story. Thanks! That sounds like a Buddy Guy concert at the Westbury Music Fair (I still call it that). A young woman got on the stage and started twirling around to his Blues so that her colorful skirt fanned out. She was ushered off a few times and finally stayed off.

Saw him 3 times in the late 60's and early 70's. First time with Taste, the other 2 as a solo. He came into the pub we were in just after the gig, sweating profusely, and had one pint. He mixed with us as if he knew us all. He was the most humble of men. No superstar, no airs and graces. A tragic end to a wonderful artist and human being.

In the early-mid-70's, myself and a couple of friends worked at a small AM radio station in southern Illinois. That's where I first discovered Rory, through a copy of the "Tattoo" album, which is the studio version of this song. This song, along with "Admit It", were my two favorite songs to play on the air. We only had the one album, but thanks to us, southern Illinois got some exposure to Rory back then. I know I played him a lot. And, that remains my favorite album of his. And, one of my biggest regrets is never getting the chance to see him live. I do love the CZcams videos, though.

Seeing Rory playing live was religious
experience - no video can adequately show
the amazing soulful energy Rory would create
on stage. I have seen him back in 1974 and to
this day it is one of best concerts I remember.
Had a chance to talk to him a bit after the show - he was very un-rock-star-like person -
as he said in that "Irish Tour" documentary
"I do not want to get too famous so I cannot
just walk into a pub and have a drink with
    friends".

Why Rory Gallagher is my idol:
On a tribute video to SRV, Eric Clapton stated that while playing, Stevie Ray never had to stop to think what he was going to play next, because "the music just flowed through him". I think the same applies to Rory: he just seemed to be an unstoppable force on stage, seemingly effortlessly weaving excellent blues solos together. On top of that, he was a great singer, terrific songwriter, wonderful showman and from what I've seen, an all-round stand-up guy.

My first ever live gig was in 1974 in Belfast when nobody, apart from Horslips, would play there (they couldn't get the insurance for the gear). Rory played every year, the highlight of the year in a bleak music scene. I was blown away. I always really loved this song above some of the louder, faster numbers, it was so sensitive, so blues. Great man, and thanks Rory for making me pick up a guitar in the first place.

Lovely seeing the home town again. His Christmas/New Year concerts in the Cork City Hall were always the most anticipated of the year . I'll never forget his concerts in the 70s. He was the greatest.

I’ve had a vhs copy of Irish tour since 1985. I bought it at a flea market along with Iron Maiden’s Live after death video. Those 2 VHS tapes got me through my freshman year in high school

Saw these legendary musicians and band in Dublin Ireland in I think 2017, was an amazing gig there first te in Ireland, and the live verson of this song sounded not for note like the 1974 on your feet on your knees live album version!!!😁😮😮, right down to the guitar tone and note phrasing absolutely magical experience to have at 19 yrs old at time 25 now

I've only recently gotten into Rory's stuff 'cos my band have covered "Follow Me", but this song makes me happy and sad at the same time.. beautiful. A legend and a great guy as well, by all accounts. Makes me proud to be Irish.

ooo Rory our Irish Tour ended in a carcrash 10 years ago, we only saw Cork and your grave. Took a while I could listen again to your music, but now it's okay again.

The guy is my hero, my first album was live in europe my first ever album.my uncle gave it to me when i started playing guitar when i was 8 yrs old in 1983.i remember exactly where i was the day he passed. This is a great version.I was just this morning playing along to "in your town" and "laundromat" Apparently Hendrix was asked what it wass like to be the greatest guitarist in the world he replied " i don't know man ask Rory Gallagher. His music is my medicine.R.I.P.
