S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 Dev Diary: Game Development During the War

- War changes everything: desires, expectations, the pace of life and mindset, and even what’s waking you up in the morning. Splits the life into “before” and “after”. It makes you get used to a new reality without true safety, even at home. Some Ukrainians are forced to leave their homeland. Others have devoted themselves to volunteering or defending the country with arms.
GSC Game World is a Ukrainian company, so our story is alike. Everyone is in their place and helps Ukraine to win. And at the same time, we are working hard on S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl, which development became even more momentous and symbolic. Although, it was impossible to imagine that it could be “even more” before.
It's been 111 days since war broke into the home of every Ukrainian. It’s still here, reaping the harvest of crime and grief. And still, we are fighting back with the belief of victory.
Helping Ukraine is a good deed that everyone can be a part of. We are sincerely grateful to those who have already contributed and encourage those who have the ability to help Ukraine through the fundraising platform launched by the President of Ukraine initiative: u24.gov.ua/

As someone working on Game AI now, Dmytro Iassenev, the man who created ALife for the original STALKER series has been someone I've looked up too and admired my whole career. Seeing him in uniform risking his life to protect his country invokes an emotional reaction I cannot describe. Godspeed to all of the developers protecting their country, and to all of the Ukranian defenders.
are you sure he is the one who made ALife? where can we find that info? that's pretty epic, I really hope he doesn't die, I hope that he held this Anti-Air weapon just for the video and I really hope that they use him for tech stuff instead since he is a programmer and not someone with big combat experience.

The Rashist army is recruiting the dregs of society into its army - tens of thousands of prisoners are being released and "forgiven" for their atrocities in return for going to war. Among them are pedophiles, rapists, murderers, drug addicts and other filth, and imagine the hell that happens when such scum of society take over a Ukrainian town and city. No one there tells them what to do, they do what they want... And then there are all these reports about thousands of dead, tortured civilians, raped children...
So there is nothing to be surprised when Ukrainian programmers take up arms and go to defend their homes and their children from evils we have only heard and seen in games and films before. We could not imagine that this could happen in real life on such a large scale.

None of us expected you guys to keep working on the game. We expected a delay, a pause in development, or even outright cancellation, and None of these things would have bothered us. But the fact that you guys are continuing to develop this game is something we never expected, nor will we forget. I sincerely hope that everyone involved stays safe.

Honestly, nobody in their right mind expects you guys to continue working on STALKER 2 in these conditions. Don't feel pressured by your fans. You can always come back to the development at a later time when the situation (hopefully) stabilizes. For those who soldier on working on the game despite of this; you're going far beyond your expected duties as an employee, but I respect your determination. For those who soldier on as actual soldiers in the defense of Ukraine; Slava Ukraini! Stay safe out there, friends.

The fact that you all are still working on the game despite the war is commendable beyond belief. I don't think anyone would have faulted you for ceasing development entirely in order to best ensure the safety of everyone there, but the fact that you, and the rest of Ukraine, haven't given up and are working even harder is more than inspiring.

Great games? New GSC (GSC after 2012) has made NOTHING. Which means that these devs are not related to the old games. And yeah, the trailer is sack of shit, I think that it was based on Unity engine.

I'm so sorry for this situation guys, this video is truly touching. A lot of ❤️ for you all, especially for the narrative designer that adopted a dog despite the situation.
I truly admire the strength and resolve it must take to endure a war, but to mention the courage it takes to join the fight. And the guy not knowing if his parents and family are alive, was heartbreaking.

What can we say in the safety of our homes that don't sound extremely stupid. I am Italian, I am European, and as much as I understand the decision that keeps us out of the war, I find the same unacceptable that we are not fighting alongside our European brothers.
Considering 75% of Russia's population (and therefore the majority of its military) is European, "fighting alongside our European brothers" probably isn't the best wording.
This isn't an "us vs. them" situation. There is a war in Europe between European countries. There's no two ways around it. This war decides the future of Europe.
Some are actually do, there are international legion. Most of them are White Russia citizens and Canadians, but there are some from all over the world.

Czasem na ulicy mijam waszą młodzież czy kobiety z dziećmi, są to bardzo mili i uczynni ludzie, którym życzę wszystkiego dobrego.
