- Laurence Equilbey conducts Mozart's Coronation Mass in C major, K.315. This, along with the Great Mass in C minor are Mozart's greatest sacred choral works.
The French conductor and Choral Master is best known as the music director and conductor of the popular ensemble Accentus Chamber Choir which she founded in 1991. She regularly conducts the Orchestre de Paris, Lyon National Orchestra, and the Orchestre National de France performing works by Mozart, Mendelssohn, Brahms, Fauré, and scores of others. Since 1998 she is the leader of the choir of the opera of Rouen (France) and conducts also its orchestra.

This mass has so many haunting melodies. My wife sang the soprano solos for this mass, and I sang the bass solos. Our favourite was the Benedictus. That was several decades ago. We are old now but cherish the memories.
Happy Easter
Merely the first five measure of the Kyrie, starting with C and settling on G via Gsus4- - Fm/Ab - - Cm - - D7.. .:::sigh:::

this is truly another level.. Mozart remains my most favorite composer
Having been educated from the age of seven to eighteen in a leading English Catholic public school with an abbey and 24 Benedictine monks as part of the staff, I had to be able to follow and attempt to sing just about every major Mass composed before 1950. Of all of them, and we sang at least fifty, this has always been my favourite because the Agnus Dei is quite simply the most beautiful prayer set to music to play a part in a religious rite that I have ever heard. Now I have listened to at least thirty major recordings of this wonderful music and I honestly never thought I would have to wait to the age of 73 to hear the definitive rendition. And for someone of my generation to have to accept that the conductor was female and better than any male chef d'orchestre in charge of this Mass is simply staggering. I shall certainly look for a lot more of her choral work because it is obviously the classical muic genre at which she excels. What a lovely surprise to find this.
How Wonderful life!

The Agnus Dei from the Schubert Mass in G is also beautiful and very lyrical. Both of these masses stand as compositions of great stature.
I am learning this mass at the moment and of all the renditions of Mozart’s Coronation Mass, this is the one I like the most because it’s so full of feeling!
Wow, what a way to grow up!
Kudos to your parents, and God's peace to you.
Compliments for this fantastic conductor
In all modesty (poor musical knowledge) I believe she has understood Mozart very well. Tribute for this beautiful performance
I am studying music profesionally and I absolutely agree with your comment
I have listened to many renditions of Mozart’s Coronation mass because I am in a choir that will be performing it this Sunday in Vienna. I am proud when I can sing along with any version. This is one of my favorites, the soloists are very good and I’m pleased that the conductor is a woman.
Laurence Equilbey is top of her trade and has been for decades
Now I am going to search for her works on CZcams!
The BEST Coronation mass ever! Bravi to all performers and the greatest conductor!!
A magnificent piece, conducted expressively & beautifully, and performed exquisitely with gusto, verve & emotion. What more do you need? I particularly loved the use of a treble -type
[harsh] mallet in the transitions from lyrical pieces to dramatic or staccato ones (see: at 19:01 and 19:44 --"Benedictus" to "Hosanna"--which made Ms Equilbey smile with great satisfaction, and elsewhere in "Agnus Dei"to "Donna Nobis,") Thank you very much all!
I have greatly enjoyed Nuria Rial's wonderful "early music" recordings with Christina Pluhar's L'Arpeggiata, but this is my first encounter with her singing Mozart. What a delight!
I'm Jewish and love classical music no thd matter the genre, whether considered sacred, secular, opera from pre-barroque to more contemporary..these masses indeed bring a peace of mind.
This is the best performance, I have ever heard. You can hear all the different vocal registers of the choir very clearly. The interpretation of that music-piece is absolutely great. Thank you, director. The soloists are also great and empathic. I never before heard this music piece in that way. What a pity, the the film- directing is a whole mess. This performance deserved a better film-director.
Water was cold not hot 😭
Wonderful performance. Our choir are performing this in a few months time. 😊
Gott Höchstpersönlich war in diesem Tag anwesend. Göttlich und Großartig danke dafür
Valaha hallottak közül a leggyönyörűbb... szívből köszönöm!
Just glorious.
...Equilbey is brilliant...I only wish the world would present more women conductors...especially the United States...yes...
Magnifique!!!
A wonderful recording. It was listening to it for the first time that I discovered the wonderful Nuria Rial.
magnificent .... one of the best performances ever
I tend to agree with the description; this is one Mozart's greatest sacred composition in its level of beauty and inspiration. I loved this performance's use of dynamics, they are more pronounced, highlighting the right moments. The choir is also very clear and passionate. Thanks!
Thank you so much Lord again!
All the Glory to Lord Jesus Christ!
Thank you so much today again!
So Wonderful!
So Beautiful!
I was so impressed a lot!
God bless all!
Thank you so much again!
God bless you !!!
Love the reduced forces. And the performance is delightful.
Thank you very very much
Congratulations for yor wonderful interpretatiion 🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹
Majestueux!
Peace Harmony in Earth and Heavens
Just wonderful !!!
I wish I had a Voice : love it : how life uplifting it Must be ! I Bet u Arme even better !!!
Splendida esecuzione.
sublime !
Très belle intervention de Nuria Rial
Beautiful! Thank you
Complimenti!!!
Bravo~!
Please, Naxosofamerica, unblock the video of Insula, Accentus (with Fuchs et al soloists) and Equilbey's mass in c minor by Mozart. It's such an uplifting performance. Give us a Christmas treat and let the video of the entire mass be available on youtube again, at least for a few months each year as it was the case before.
Ça c'est du Mozart magique
Sublissime!
Meu gênio preferido
❤❤❤még most is!
His mother was died in Paris,he retourn to Zaltsbourg and accept this command: The Coranation.
He was 27 years old.
To me, It is the best œuvre from Mozart !
@@elizabethbelmont6740 Like what tastes and colors... For me Mozart's religious works are all commands, it was never his priority and he recycled/reharmonised the music of others works a lot. Certainly, he was an excellent composer. His passion, and his efforts, was rather to make the pretty soprani sing on stage ;)
So cute the smile of conductor toward soprano soloist just after the final beating^^
Equilbey is brilliant and a wonderful warm person also.
It's because the soprano soloist made a mistake during the final, she sang one "Donna" too early, and skipped the very last one (before the tutti). Sh*t happens! :D
How does a conductor direct this masterpiece; listen and take it in, of, dare I say - a Word from God spoken to Wolfgang, to not become overly emotional ... or even cry, during this performance?
How many ads can you stuff into a Mozart mass? Ridiculous. This is a beautiful performance. What a shame so many ads!
Magnifica
Lovely...and nice to see a female conductor (Maestra?)
Muy bien
This is exactly what Mozart wanted to say. Other variants are not natural.
Not the 'Corronation Mass' but the Great Mass KV 427 and the 'Requiem' KV626 are Mozart's greatest sacred choral works
+ClassicPerformances2 please... If you think mozart did not tell sussamayer what to write you need help
If you think Sussmyar wrote anything in the Requiem that was in any way "Mozartean" , you should have your ears examined!!
While this is undoubtedly true, as a great Mozart fan, I must say I love this piece too.
Let's keep arguing about which sacred work is best because we can't possibly enjoy any of them without knowing exactly how they rank in relation to each other.
Arnold van der waals, You forgot to add (humbly) "in my opinion."
❤
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏

Homenaje a Gran Irene Salles
Coronation Mass in Corona time
wonderful performance but my question is...did the conductor acknowledge the soloists and choir as well as the orchestra after the video stopped recording? A wave of the hand was all they received???
The curtain calls are not included in this video.
Who are the soloists? The Soprano is lovely- no uncontrolled vibrato!
Came here nawazuddin Siddiqui interview 😁
Who is the conductor
🇰🇷🇰🇷🇰🇷👍👍👍😇😇😇🙏🙏🙏
"This, along with the Great Mass in C minor are Mozart's greatest sacred choral works."
Ummm. The "Great Mass in C minor" was never finished. And someone seems to forget pieces like "Exsultate jubilate", "Ave verum", "Laudate Dominum" and - of course - the Requiem.
very similar to the way which von Karajan conducts this Mass, about the presidency of John Paul The Great, for mercy of God.
in een woord. PRACHTIG....

Why do they sing Agnus as "ag-noos" and not "an-yoos"?
Thanks. Unfortunatly, the commercials, would not be appreciate here !

Very Mozartian...though it can sound better with fewer musicians, smaller orchestra and singers in the choir.
È una JoJo reference??
Yes, it is K.317. Also, Mozart just happen to do a little thing called Mozart's Requiem, which is probably better than this and the Great Mass in C minor.
+Mike Music I don't understand why K. 317 is basically the most popular missa brevis setting by Mozart - it's good, but I think there are a couple better (K. 257 and 337 are splendid, with 337 being a hybrid missa brevis et solemnis). Other mass settings like K. 167 and K. 262 are longer and more geared toward very formal liturgical or concert venues, but they are also magnificent, yet forgotten.
As for the C Minor Mass, it's my personal favorite piece of music. If you haven't checked it out, I strongly recommend listening to Robert Levin's reconstruction/completion - quite compelling.
+Ferrariman601 Levin is a sycophant who lives off of Mozart. We should play what Mozart wrote, no more.

King Charles
beautiful interpretation;-)) But Agnus Dei bar 98, pitty

Adverts in this ……… just stop it
Mildly interesting. I IV V I what a bore.
Such a shame that the soprano, after singing so beautifully, comes in 2 beats early on her very last solo. It doesn’t matter, all the rest was first-rate.
Soprano's latin pronunciation is more funny than terrible. Damn, let's study!
Laurence is a she? That's a new one.
She is world famous and the conductor of the Accentus choir. Listen to their vocal version of Mahler’s Adegio. The high soprano is fantastic.
Randall: Your gender expectation should shift when you leave the Anglo American world.
Great. But why the ugly German pazem and aknus?
