  • Days after D-Day, the depleted Allies look for reinforcements to complete their final push into Germany across two formidable barriers: the dense forest of Ardennes, and a defensive belt of minefields tank traps and bunkers on the German border, known as the ‘Siegfried Line’. Among them was a college student-turned-GI by the name of Kurt Vonnegut.

It's funny how the narrator focuses on the Greeness of US troops but ignores the fact the Germans were recruiting kids under 16 and old dudes for combat.

Well if you read Slaughter House Five Kurt Vonnegut talks about how it’s just boys fighting boys and that all the real soldiers are dead or wounded by the time he gets there

Is any of this footage actually of Kurt?
I know it’s not his voice, obviously…but where did they get this account from? A written work he had published? Or is this an unpublished excerpt of something?
Let me know. I grew up in Indiana a Vonnegut & James dean fan…so this was really cool to see.
I just like to understand the full aspect of things…as in, which footage is him, who’s voice is actually speaking AS HIM, and where did this account come from?
Any info would be appreciated. Thank you.

The Germans were always good fighters in the forests going back to Roman Times! The battle of the Teutenberg Forest was one of the bloodiest of the Germanic tribes against the Romans!I see served in Vietnam and the VC managed to keep the supply lines going on the HO Chi Min Trail despite all the aerial and artillery pounding! There was lush Jungle Canopy and they had thousands of trails that they clandestinely travelled trough and under in vast tunnels!

If Germans are good fighters why did they got hammered not only once but twice. They lost both WW and in both defeats they were truly humiliated.
