I did this for German, having to figure out which phonemes could be used, as there were only English ones. The Extras 1.3 disk for Germany included a routine in BASIC with some, but not all mappings. And you could try to make up “words” which, when pronounced in English, sounded German-ish. This was always great fun. Der mow-rer holet dane hummer. Der bower holet dos corn. This was pronounced like “Der Maurer holt den Hammer. Der Bauer holt das Korn.” - The bricklayer is getting the hammer. The farmer is getting the grain. This actually helped me to learn English very quickly, especially when it comes to pronunciation, where a lot of Germans have problems with.

I like how the program throws shade on the creator of this video by pronouncing I’m “im” as in “him” because the original creator didn’t spell it I’m, they spelled it “Im.”
Such a simple concept yet so funny especially with the sound effects and how some words were inevitably pronounced weirdly. I'll be honest I didn't even know text-to-speech already existed back in the 80's (though probably 'cause I was born '94).
This brought back memories of messing around with Say on my A500. I was devastated when I got an A1200 and couldn't find it on the Workbench disks anywhere.
