The Taylor ash limited after watching again 3 or more times has a wonderful tone.

Phenomenal, knowledgeable review. And fine playing 😊

CZcams seemed to think I might find this interesting. They were right! I no longer live anywhere near a store with a decent Taylor room, and listening to you play all these Taylors was awesome. Some surprises there too. Like you, I think the 514ce is amazing. But like I told my wife as I was watching this, I wouldn't mind adding any one of those guitars to the stable, were there room in the budget. Well played, Matt. You really let the sound of the guitars shine through your playing.

Easy way to determine the bracing, look at the nut on the Taylor: if the nut is black macarta, (pressed linen) the bracing is V class; white (bone) nut is cross braced. Even V class is modified for different tone woods in a body shape. The GT line doesn't have enough room for V class, so they use half as a cantilever or C class.

Always innovating and improving Taylor guitars. I have a 110, 314ce, 410, 224ce-K and custom build 815. The AD12e SB has a vintage look as well as sound. Beautiful, with more depth than GS mini, which has been an extremely successful model (over 350k sold), but I’ve never gravitated to because there’s not enough depth to the sound and doesn’t take a flat pick very well. The AD27e (fna GTe) mahogany has that open sound, similar to the Martin 000-15. Many players love it, but I prefer a more focused sound characteristic of the GA body shape. The 324ce Builders edition is an interesting combo. I like the stain and detail used on that model. The sound was quite responsive, way too bright IMO, seems like it would be real nice for fingerstyle players. From an arborist perspective, I’m prejudiced against Ash trees, but that’s beside the point. I feel similarly about the 424ce. Sounds like maple, which is fine if you like that sort of brittle, trebly sound with little mid or bass, warmth or depth, but perhaps more appropriate for fingerstyle. With the 514ce, we start getting into my sound profile. The GA body shape is the most universally great sounding models up and down the line. The torrified top is an interesting detail as I haven’t noticed it on any other Taylors, leaving me to wonder as to the reason for the aging treatment. Bottom line, it works as the sound is quite stunning. You just know you’re gonna love it. The 618 confirms my dislike for maple. No midrange… and without the midrange, the bass is incidental, but I can see it working well for singer/songwriters with that scooped out midrange so as not to compete with the voice. For the 722ce, Taylor does Koa better than any other maker, both visually and audibly. You’d save $$ with the 224ce-K DLX, which sounds nearly identical, a bit deeper and is even prettier in dark edge stain and glossy finish. Hard not to love the 914ce sound. Very responsive and versatile. The EIR gets a bit too punchy with heavy-handed flatpick playing, but hey, it’s so loud… perhaps a light gauge pick. The appointments are beautifully done. The PS12ce presentation was pretty, but sounded a bit muted for some reason. I’d be disappointed if I bought it without an opportunity to play it. The K24ce, I’d much rather a glossy finish with such a well-appointed Taylor, so save $$$ with the 224ce-K DLX, which sounds at least as good. The last one, custom GA, another no for maple. Not my thing.

Hi, thanks for your informative videos. I'm currently looking for a guitar with a sinker redwood top. Taylor PS12ce and PS14ce are on my short list. Another one is the Ryan Nightingale Grand Soloist that you presented some time ago.

Urban Ash is a semi- tropical ash with different tone than swamp ash used for electric guitars.

Why in the world did they put the strap button on the back...324ce....I feel mahogany topped guitars are superlative! This one has big bass and no mids...very muted IMO, I like the looks though. Taylor build guitars often for how they look as opposed to how they sound.

Shammel ash is urban ash. Indigenous to mexico and some parts of the american west. I think it is closely related to the ceder family.
