Did you watch the game? Be open mind and respect the reality. Sporting played really nice. They used a near man-marking to close down Jorginho. The midfield was lost. They had more than 50% of procession for extended period. Their pressing was real good and pinned down Arsenal. Arsenal needs to field the winning 11 right from the start in order to win this game. That's what is squad depth for. You rotate a bit and you already are not good enough.

If Arteta’s European form stinks then what about Wenger? Moreover, what about Pep? Keep in mind that, imo, the EL has a tougher road than even the CL. Part of our shortcoming is always thinking we’re way too big than we are and trying to approach most games with that mindset. Manu, Chelsea, Liverpool have all been successful, because of a humble mindset, which have led teams to underestimate them. Unless we can see ourselves at the level we are and remain humble, we’ll always look like bottlers.

I'll say the same thing I said to my partner who doesn't fully understand football. The loss against Sporting stung and I mean it stung. I literally cried when Martinelli miss his penality. Does it suck we lost? Hell yeah it sucks, we could of gone to win the whole thing, but player management was poor that game regarding subtitions, the early injuries. The fact it took us forever to get our engines running. Yes, we can critise these things, yes, we can call out all the bad things with the game and how we played; but it is a blessing in disguise. Would a top 4 and winning the Europa be cool? Hell yes it would be. But we've not won our home league in almost 20 years. I'd rather we focus on becoming a Premier League powerhouse again and win the league then focus on winning European trophies. Get back to the PL winning ways and make a better histroy with Arteta taking us to our first Champions League title once he has completed the process. Just cause we're top of the league doesn't mean the process has been completed. There's still a way to go I.E winning the damn league.

On the league it’s an easy call for the fans! If city and arsenal were reversed in the league with city being 5 ahead then we are using our first eleven and going for ropey cup.100%! That one place sitting top has made Arteta the prem his focus an for me that’s the right decision for THIS season! Next season when the dust settles and the squad expands I have no doubt we will challenge for more competitions! A little thin this season with our B side.

I do agree with the amount of squad depth we have is only just not enough in terms of competing on all fronts. I envisaged that we would be a force this season, the lift-off for Martinelli and Saliba, Saka was already balling out through last season so come August I was excited about this season for him too. I was really surprised by the improvement/evolution of Xhaka in the midfield and ben white as a fullback this season under Arteta. That and other teams not playing collectively as well as us has had a major impact on the quality level of our team but take nothing away from them two because they have 9/10 times been immense this season. The players are galvanized, and even with the two new editions in January, he has so far been able to maintain this upwards trajectory we are on. All he needs is to add more quality players around this impressive young team.

We have less games now, less chance of injuries, more rest between games, we don’t have to go last every weekend, we have more chance of winning the league now.

The team we had there at the start is good enough to give Sporting a good run and win it, there's a difference between demanding the best and having the ability to get what you demand for, this team is a work in progress, and our development will be in phases.
The league cannot be jeopardized for some second fiddle European competition, we don't have the team to juggle these two competitions at this time of the season while we are aiming for the league. The league and cementing top 4 is the utmost priority and at the start of the season the Europa league was the priority and a top 4 finish then the FA cup then the league Cup but all that changed because of our league form which none of gave us the chance to even be in the race.
You were sad to be in this completion at the end of last season (presuming you are a Gooner), we lost two players in the second leg, one an important first teamer and the other an important back up. If the fringe players could not finish the job, so be it.

We shouldn't be happy to go out of tournaments but we shouldn't dwell on it either. Not sure what else the reaction is supposed to be when we go out. We can't let it consume us. The aim of this club is to be European royalty but it doesn't happen overnight. Even Real Madrid went a nearly 40 year period without winning the European Cup. We are building. The club was mismanaged in the past which is why we didn't achieve what we should have but these knee jerk reactions to moments in time aren't clever or helpful. This squad is young and learning how to win. Hopefully we get over the line in the league and that will be the catalyst for further success. There's a balance there to be found between keeping standards high and understanding that the kind of sustained top level success we all crave requires top level planning and execution from top to bottom over a sustained period of time. We should have beat sporting but we didn't. It's disappointing but it's also true that we'll play significantly fewer games than City between now and the end of the season which is an advantage. I don't understand what the controversy is in saying that. All we can do now is win the next game.

This is what winds me up about Lee. We all know that the reason why Arteta played Fabio for long is that we do not have the squad to compete in all competitions, properl, with a full go. Madrid has a much better squad depth than ours. We barely have a B team. So, of coruse Arteta has to be very careful in mamaging his selectios to prioritise the PL over all competitions because had he played all his best players and won the Europa league but not the PL. Just about every league in the world has 3 domestic trophies a year to win and also if your really lucky you might have an opportunity to win 1 of 2 European trophies, and yet fans of the bigger clubs in the prem are happy to wave goodbye to their league Cup, their fa Cup and also a European trophy, as Lee said football is about trophies and only a handful of clubs in world football have the privilege of achieving them and yet fans just shrug their shoulders and say it wasn't our priority #Standards
It took me some time to understand this but not everyone has a winner's mentality. Winners want to win everything and when they fall short they at least have something to show for their work. When non-winners fall short while thinking that their approach is the most sensible, they end up with nothing.

I am not having that the starting line up was poor, he made 2 changes to the line up dropped Saka and Ødegaard. That team was good enough to win the game, they just played bad . Lee is a flip flop last week arteta in , next week poor manager, listening to him making a point is so difficult to hear . 3/4 seasons , he won the FA with one of the worst squads in the arsenal history and started rebuilding, the rebuilding is not complete and we getting pushed by City on top of the table, tell me when the season started you had arsenal in the top 4 conversations and I will agree , getting UCL is not good enough.

Fans don’t win football matches. Agree we should play first team most of the time. Fans lowering or rising standards also doesn’t win football matches, means nothing. Terry, I am an Arsenal fan since 7yrs old and I'm now 41, absolutely love your content, well done for evolving your channel, and best of luck going forward. I don't agree with the secret arsenal fan notion, I think it's reactive fear of a certain truth playing out as some of us anticipated. I am devastated to go out of the Europa because we have been playing well since the little stumble and F.A cup exit. 14 times winners it's our cup so you already know that's a sore one but we didn't let it affect our form or how we break down teams. I do believe Arteta got the starting 11 selection wrong against sporting, J20 has done well since his arrival but when a win is needed and we are at home, there are very few excuses that can be used to justify going with that midfield pivot. No offense to the players but that is one of our least agile midfield pivots in terms of selection. This is against a team of quick and technically gifted players, they maybe aren't at the top of the Portuguese league but they are no mugs either and Arteta has to take the responsibility for that. Lee like myself is a proper passionate arsenal fan who has seen this club do amazing things, that's why our standards are so high. Some Arsenal fans need to realize that before entering into a discussion. Don't know the other arsenal fan you had on there but he's representing a clear case of the passion police trying to get others to lower their expectations suddenly lol, not having it! big up yourself and Lee gunner.

Our squad depth is not there at the moment. With Saliba and Tomiyasu out, we are having to bring in Reuell Walters. I understand the frustration of wanting us to be challenging on all fronts right away but we are not there yet. Maybe we should be butbwe are not. Whilst I'm gutted we are out of Europe, we have to be honest about the fact that staying in would have cost us. The hunter who chases two rabbits catches neither.
