In English, you would more likely say "Usually it's the other way around." That's what the other commenters are pointing out, what you said is a very obvious word-for-word translation of a Czech phrase.
@@examplenameyoutube Nikdy jsem neslyšela rodilého mluvčího použít "Usually it's the opposite way", to je zkomolení dvou běžných frází dohromady. Pokud by použili slovíčko "opposite" tak by řekli spíš něco jako "Usually it's the opposite" a nedodali by nakonec to "way".
I don’t agree he won because of the reasons the BBC correspondent mentioned. In my opinion the most important reasons were his calmness, common sense and pragmatism. And the outcome from these elections is that there are more people in the ČR who value democracy than it seemed to be in past years. The Czechs are fed up with being dragged towards Russia and the desinformation war. The same sex marriages were not the reason Mr Pavel has won.
The same sex-marriege was definitely not one of the significant reasons that contributed to Pavel winning, so mentioning it among the main reasons was quite misleading from the host. Even liberal values in general in the Western sense were not that important to his win. In fact, his slogan was "Order and calmness" and there was a lot of patriotism in his campaign, so it seemed quite conservative in the sense. Regarding the very restricted powers of the president in the Czech Republic, where the president is more of a representative figure, most of the people saw him as a more stable, consistent, and reliable figure compared to the chaotic behavior and history of Babis. Another huge reason was that Babis was born in Slovakia and doesn't really know and care that much about Czech history and culture. While it does not matter to people that much when he was a prime minister, people take the president as a more patriotically oriented function.
Czech en masse never cared about Babis being Slovak. A few selected individuals without rational thinking which is a fairly rare occurence in a country with one of the highest average IQ in the world. From a psychological standpoint his pure stupidity and the fact that he's below average Czech IQ is the biggest deterent for such society. His bodylanguage, demeanor, speech, past, lack of basic knowledge, ignorance towards constructive debate, belittling of critical thinking, inability to face and arrogance towards criticism. All this and many more are signs of low intelligence and narcissistic sociopathy (in his position of a political powerhouse, because a normal individual of such low intelligence would be unfit of that term).
Agreed, Patriku. For Brits, from what I observe, the LGBT rights is a pressing issue, very often on the table. That is why the host mentioned Pavel's views, to translate the set of values he represents for Brits to understand. You are 100% right, though, that the public discussion in CZ does not mainly revolve around same sex marriages etc. Just two cents from a Czech expat living in Edinburgh :-)
While it certainly wasn't a main reason and I agree it was quite misleading to point it out like that, it sure didn't hurt him. As a czech trans woman. While law doesn't usually take antagonist stance against queer community. It sure is underdeveloped and sometimes is hostile by how long time ago it was written. As a first time voter, I am not sure if I would have voted for him, was he not a same sex marriage supporter. I probably would have, but I would have a really hard time deciding.

Slightly weird take from BBC and overestimation of the weight the support for same-sex marriage had on the outcome of this election. Also, a note-worthy mention goes to Petr Pavel's explanation of it being usually the politicians who drag nations into wars, not the soldiers, and that to him, upholding peace is way more important that it will ever be to most of the politicians.
