Guiding someone is different than interceding on behalf of his umma. Inshallah our prophet Muhammed PBUH will intercede on behalf of his umma so they will be granted jannath from Muqaam e Mahmood.

    The Year Of Sorrow
The exile was an economic boycott self-imposed by Abu Talib who was upset that his people were boycotting them. This was in the 10th year of the dawa.
As soon as they returned three calamities struck the Muslims within a span of two months. This is why it is called the year of sorrow.
    The Death Of Abu Talib.
Five weeks after returning Abu Talib got sick and died in the month of showwall. The prophet told him “oh my uncle Say La Ilaha illallah so that I can speak to Allah on your behalf.
Abu Jahl and Abdullah Ibn Abu Ummaymah were there. They said O Abu Jahl are you going to leave the religion of Abdul Mutallib? They kept pressuring him until he said “I am on the religion of Abdul Mutallib. “
The prophet said I will continue to ask Allah to forgive you unless he stops me from doing so. Allah revealed At Tauba “ it is not right for the profit or the believers to ask forgiveness for the ones who didn’t believe in the Allah”. And Surah Qasas “ You will not be able to guide those who love rather Allah guides whom he pleases”.
Then the prophet sws stopped asking Allah for him and left.
Soon Ali came and said “your misguided uncle has passed away. “. He was very angry because his father refused to accept Islam. Profited go bury him and come back quickly. Ali said “but he was a Mushrik” prophet said “go bury him.” Ali did and when he came back the prophet sws made a huge dua for him and Ali said “ I wouldn’t have given this dua up for anything in this world.”
There are many events in the Meccan period that we are not aware of their exact occurrence bc we have very little to reference them with.
Before he died Abu Jahl came back to Abu Talib and spoke to him. Abu Talib asked one last time, for the prophet to stop going against the Quraysh. The prophet said if thy will give me one statement, I will promise them the kingdom of the Arabs and the Ajjami”. Abu Jahl said “we will give you ten statements ”. The prophet sws said say “La Ilaha Illal Lah” Abu Jahl said “I will never say that”
Abu Talib States in his poetry and he believes in the profit but his pride didn’t allow him to accept Islam. Said he didn’t want to be criticized for leaving the religion of his father the legend of the Arabs even though he witnessed many of the miracles of Islam.
    Some interesting points.
Al Abbas, The younger brother of Abu Talib asked the prophet sws “ oh prophet sws have you benefited you uncle protected you and spoke on your behalf” The Prophet sws said “yes he would have been in the depths of the hellfire but because of my just fission he is in the outskirts. He is the only one with the least punishment of hellfire from those of the eternal dwellers . He will have sandals on fire which will burn his brains.”
The Muslims in the hellfire will never be the same in regards to punishment as the punishment of the eternal
    inhabitants of hell.
We can’t follow our parents traditions. We must follow the truth about all cultural slam. Your parents and sisters and culture or not and evidence in Islam.
Only Allah can guide, even the prophet sws was not able to guide the one that he love the most. He couldn’t do it in his lifetime this definitely show that he can’t do it after he’s passed away. But many Muslims have elevated his status from a prophet to levels of shirk. They make him a partner with Allah. !
We see that The Prophet loved a disbeliever/ kafir Abu Talib. Allah allowed this. We can love a person as a human but not religiously, just regular love not even family.
Allahs Plan is better than the disbelievers Abu Talib did not convert. This does help the Muslims. Allah can help the muslims win even with a disbeliever. We don’t have a right to challenge Allahs decisions. Only Satan challenges Allahs decisions. We hear and we obey. This is Tauhid.
Just believing in the prophethood is not enough to be a Muslim you must except and submit. It’s not the knowledge of submission Satan knows everything but he didn’t except and he refused to obey because he was arrogant so he’s not a believer. He will be in the hellfire.
Question what about the Muslims who know about Islam but they don’t do any of the duties??
Abu Talib did not worship idols but he refused to submit even though he knew it was true.

The difference between Ibu Talib and Muslims
who say they submit but actually don’t do any of the required acts of worship
of Arkan Al-Islam is that the majority of those Muslims actually acknowledge
their sins. They’re lazy about it and they know it. They’re committing major
sins but they still hope that Allah will forgive them. And another things is,
when they thank and praise Allah or say Inshaa Allah or any of the other forms
of Thikr (which everybody says, even if only occasionally) then they do say
these things out of submission, so there is a little bit of something that they
do. And any other good deeds in their social life for example, if they do anything,
knowing that Allah wants this from them, then inshaa Allah that’s also
    something to support themselves with.
But sadly there are Muslims, who say they’re
Muslims but also openly say that they don’t have anything to do with prayer or
fasting or zakah, and that is definitely very dangerous.
May Allah guide us and forgive us.

In last lecture ( lecture 18, 30:00 onwards), sheikh mentioned the story of father in law of Umar (R.A.) that he died 5 years before coming of Islam and Prophet (S.A.W.) saw him in jannah. Because he had died as a hunafa.
I mean around 570 years had passed between Jesus (PBUH) and Prophet (S.A.W). As this narration states, in this time period whoever died as a hunafa, would be considered as a believer.
As for Prophet's (S.A.W) father and grandfather, it's the matter between GOD and His slaves and He knows what a heart contains. We hope for the best and GOD knows best.

With all due respect, Dr Tahir ul Qadri has an entire book establishing the Imaan of Abu Talib so to quote one evidence, which is out of context, is not very ‘academic’.
Also, he has made it clear on numerous occasions that he is not a berelwi so for Yasir Qadhi to label him as one is also highly ‘academic’.
Lastly, Yasir Qadhi says that he has the right to make a joke out of him. This is not the way of the scholars. Especially on social media.
    Really disappointed in this statement.
