Actress Gets a DUI After Performing at a Show in Lake Forest, Illinois

- On November 16, 2023 at approximately 12:57 AM, Officer Ashley Molinari with the Lake Forest Police Department observed a white 2017 Kia Sportage driving erratically on Waukegan Road in the southbound direction before turning Westbound onto Everett Road. She began driving towards the car and she paced the vehicle at 45 MPH in a 35 MPH zone. Officer Molinari initiated a traffic stop at Everett Road and Old Barn Lane.
She made contact with a 24-year-old female, who was identified as Kaitlin. As she was speaking with Kaitlin, she advised her that she was being stopped for speeding. When Kaitlin was asked if she had consumed any alcohol, she admitted to consuming one 16 oz. Stella beer at the Lantern bar in Lake Forest, Illinois. Based on her admission to consuming alcohol, Officer Molinari asked Kaitlin to perform field sobriety exercises.
The first exercise was the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus (HGN) test. During the HGN test, Officer Molinari observed the lack of smooth pursuit and distinct and sustained nystagmus at maximum deviation, but she did not observe the onset of nystagmus prior to 45 degrees. The second exercise was the Walk and Turn test. During the Walk and Turn test, Kaitlin did not keep her arms at her sides for the entire duration of the test and turned improperly. The final exercise was the One Leg Stand test. During the One Leg Stand test, Kaitlin failed to raise her foot in the proper fashion and displayed a lack of balance.
Following the field sobriety exercises, Officer Molinari offered Kaitlin an opportunity to take a Preliminary Breath Test (PBT), and the results indicated a BAC of 0.081%. Based on her erratic driving, the odor of alcohol, her admission to consuming alcohol, her inability to adequately perform the field sobriety exercises, and the results of the PBT, Officer Molinari placed Kaitlin under arrest for driving under the influence. After she was handcuffed, Kaitlin was placed in the patrol car and her vehicle was towed.
Kaitlin was transported to the Lake Forest Police Department for further processing. At the station, Kaitlin agreed to submit breath samples for testing. The results indicated a BAC of 0.067%, which was under the legal limit of 0.08%. After the paperwork was completed and Kaitlin was photographed and fingerprinted, she was was released to her mother pending her court appearance at the Lake County Courthouse on December 1, 2023. Kaitlin was cited for driving under the influence of alcohol (625 ILCS 5/11-501(a)(2)), improper turn at intersection (625 ILCS 5/11-801), speeding (625 ILCS 5/11-601), and operating uninsured motor vehicle (625 ILCS 5/3-707).
Court records indicate that Kaitlin’s case was disposed of in court on February 13, 2024. The citations for DUI and operating an uninsured motor vehicle were nolle prossed. She was fined a total of $1,276.50 for the other 2 citations.

@@Irishguy075 I said I don't "think" she was. She had one stinking beer, she did extremely well on the sobriety test and she was barely over the limit. Police officers used to use more desecration, if they put everyone in jail who'd had a beer or a glass of wine the cops would be so busy with that and they're are real criminals and drunks out there for them to get.
The girl complied, she was honest and respectful and if she veered over into the other lane for a second it was probably because she thought the creepy person who was stalking her wax behind her and she became distracted. I've been sober and gotten distracted for a minute by a moth flying in my face while driving in the summer nights.

She should have followed her with more observation…I usually side with the officers because they are trained well but sometimes you get some that just want an ego boost and brags on how many they arrested.

As for "what was it when she first started driving" it doesn't work that way. If you slam down 3 shots of tequila and measure your blood alcohol level it could be zero since your body hasn't metabolized it yet.

Don’t ever admit to ANY alcohol use. Refuse the field sobriety test. It’s not to see if you’re safe to drive. It’s merely to gain evidence against you. Don’t answer any questions or converse. It doesn’t matter where you’re coming from, where you’re going, or what you’ve been doing. Take the arrest and let an attorney sort it out. Innocent until proven guilty. Don’t incriminate yourself.
I don't drink and haven't in 31 years. I 100% agree. I'm grateful for the good cops that catch legit drunk drivers, this cop in this case is terrible.

(The only thing I will say that perked my ears up after watching her pass (in my opinion) all the tests, is when she said that she drank her beer within the hour, so the officer probably assumed that her BAC would still be rising as they arrive at the station.)

I dunno, I think her hands are tied by the PBT. It's not evidentiary but it is indicative and it's over the legal limit. The liability of having that all on body cam and letting the driver go (and her possibly getting in to an accident) would have severe ramifications for the officer.
Maybe your right and the officer is just a bitch, but if I were in her position I would have done the arrest based on the PBT as well.
I have seen people blow zeros and still be arrested and win lawsuits.

This arrest was completely uncalled for. This girl was very cooperative and did very well on her tests. And there wasn't even a good reason for pulling her over. She should have been sent on her way with a warning to eat before drinking in the future, and not drive impaired ever. She was not impaired this time and because of an over zealous cop, now has a police record, and expensive fees to pay. I felt really bad for her. 😟

Most people complaining here about this arrest are, I suspect, individuals who often drink and drive (even though they say they "hate" drunk drivers)
0.081 is probably in the margin of error of the portable breathalyser. But unless protocols say otherwise that PO has no way of knowing for sure.
0.081 is above the limit. Period.
The driver's behaviour was perfect. She took it with grace, and for such a small violation the DUI would never stick unless the tests in-station were even higher.

Unfortunately, the federal/state DWI grant program drives up arrests like this one. If the PDs don’t show a need for that grant money, the funding disappears and so might the officers’ extra overtime pay.

Yes. With the inaccurate road side portable tester it was a hair over and that one is not supposed to be admissible in court anyway. At the station she was well under. Bothering her Mom to pick her up after being photographed, fingerprinted, and have to go to court is ridiculous for someone who should have been let off with a speeding warning. She had a believable excuse for speeding since it is very likely she gets followed from a Bar or from her stage performance. I have never seen a more likeable young woman who did the tests well considering a lot was lacking when giving the instructions.

So even if I THINK I’m getting pulled over, I start to physically shake.. and I mean SHAKE. & then my brain stops working & I forget how to advocate for myself or explain things.
So they would SFST the shit outta me..
My legs are also uneven from a rod in my femur bone, so my balance is shit. I can just see it all going down now.. 😅
Don't ever ever ever take a test. If the officers can't already prove you are never give them a reason. Get a DUI attorney and you will be fine.

Cop's a hard-ass and a bully. So this woman, via the official breathalyzer at the station, was under the limit, but she still had to go through the whole thing AND pay $500 to police "Impound fee" AND...AND pay the tow company to get her car back. Sounds like a double whammy. I loved the woman's final question, "So, what's the lesson to be learned here?" Good one. Here's a question: Why have a limit above 0.0000 if you are going to get arrested regardless?

Can someone explain to me how she was still charged and arrested when she blew under on the official breath test? Shouldnt she have been let go immediately? And the cop gave her 4 tickets when she only pulled her over for 1??

Sure I’ll try to educate you! Initially she blew 0.081, which is slightly over the LEGAL LIMIT!
An hour or so later she blew (at the station) 0.067%, slightly under! What do suppose she would have blown an hour or so earlier when she first stated driving? Think about it, read the video description next time before you make immature, knee jerk comments w/o knowing as many facts as possible then maybe you won’t sound so…………….

Fyi the portable pas test they do on the road is NOT admissable in court, only the Ebt stationary machine is...which she blew a .067. That is the legal test, hence why I asked what I did. Which is why the charge against her was dismissed moran. I'm 77 and female... I don't think that was fair!!! She did the exams so good and the breathalyzer was too close.... this lady cop could have used her discretion 😢
@sherrillcornett4212 I totally agree with you. The female officer wasn't fair and arrested that young lady for no reason. She preformed the test well. Didn't have slurred speech. Wasn't belligerent. Lesson is THAT Female officers was full of s***. Im a female.
Or waited 5 minutes to give her the breathalyzer again to see if it was going down.
