This song is a popular gay anthem, discussing the oppression and maltreatment of homosexuals in the 1980s, particularly in Scotland. Somerville wrote the song as a sort of autobiographical story of his life and experiencing that mistreatment. But beside this i think we all need a song that turns the stuff we live everyday in rejection and heartbreaking sadness. A song where we can hide. I hope people feels this song as theirs, just as i do.
Maybe that's why I've felt sort of sad when listening to it even though i loved it :/ something about the melody (I'm not english so when I first listened to it I didn't understand)
