I hope you had fun at this amazing event, as well as participated!! That is quite an honor!!! There are 13 videos of cars arriving and another 1of leaving, as well as a host of others covering the show and the swap meet. I am sorry, but I can not say if you and your son were covered elsewhere.

Wow! The flywheel on that Locomobile is amazing! Without it, those huge pistons would shake your kidneys loose. I always wondered why Billy Durant bought that company; its prestige was well in the past by then. They didn't use the term "bipolar" back then, but I'd bet Billy would have qualified. That red Pontiac convertible really illustrated my opinion that in the GM hierarchy, the jump from Chevy to Pontiac offered the biggest bang for the buck.

Durant wanted a luxury line in the Cadillac, Packard, Pierce-Arrow segment. He bought Locomobile at it's liquidation sale in '22. Durant continued the marque until '29. Good thought about " Billy " being bipolar. He was well know for running on 4 hours sleep and calling associates during the wee hours of the morning... Sloan's concept for GM's ladder to success was excellent. To bad subsequent management did not follow the formula.

@@carshowreporter Perhaps the best example of Billy's manic phase is his offer of a million bucks a year to Charlie Nash to stay on as GM President. Nash just said, "No man is worth that much, Billy," and left. Walter Chrysler took the offer, and as soon as his bank account was fat, he left, too. Everyone loved Billy Durant, but realized soon enough that he was best loved from a safe distance.

Ken Burns should do a movie about Mr. Durant. He make Tucker look like a piker!!!

@@carshowreporter That's really an intriguing idea. I don't know if there's enough about Durant alone to fill a couple of hours, but General Motors as a whole would certainly fill 8-10 hours, and Billy would be a character that keeps popping up, like Ratliff, the sewing machine salesman in Faulkner's novels!

His story would fill 3 movies!!! His early years with buggies to the formation of GM and losing control with his wild, buying spree. Movie 2: Starting Little and Chevrolet, growing Chevy and securing financing to buy GM back, then losing control again. Movie 3: Durant Motors and his final years!!!! If you have not read this book, you need to!! Dream Maker: William C. Durant, Founder of General Motors. by Weisberger, Bernard A. Hardcover. ISBN 10: 0316928747 It is out of print and the prices range for $10 to $75.

It would be bad enough having a puncture on a 20's car ...but to have to fit it on the rim in the rain I would need a diazepam.

It was not unusual to actually dismount the tire ( tyre 😉) with tire irons, find the leak, glue and patch it and reverse the process .... Not all inexpensive cars of the day carry a spare. Luckily Diazepam was not available back then. If taken while wrestling with the troublesome tire in bad weather, it would definately trigger suicide ... or murder of the vehicle!
