      Thank you for uploading this and all the other videos. I have been wanting to go to seminary for a long time but haven’t been able to (time-money-family). Thanks to this, I’ve been able to watch over 14 hours of classes. This is so desperately needed. Preachers are not preaching the full council of God’s word, and the church is suffering. There’s a counterfeit Christianity that has taken hold here in America and the only way to expose it is by preaching the Word of God. Thanks again and God bless you!

    This professor's personality is more subdued than I'm accustomed to (but far more appealing than the wild "showmen" I see all over TV), but I determined to watch this through to the end. Am I glad I did!!! Around 38 minutes in, I could sense, hear, feel, see his excitement and love for God's word, and it just put the biggest ol' smile on my face. I look forward to more study with gentle teacher. Thanks for the upload!

      Now all what I want to do is to be in the serminary to study so I can preach the Gospel to my country.

    I agree, we must strive to keep the intent of God's word faithful to what God intended. Anyone that does not have a fear of the Lord is simply irresponsible and dangerous. That said, the next skill is to capture the emotion of the passage. The Bible is living and active. If we are to fellowship with God we must have the confidence that our mind is being renewed to inform our emotions.

    With regard to exploring context.........I wonder what example would be the most distant reference in Scripture, of context? In other words, ........I wonder if it could be said that something in the last Chapter or Revelation, points back in "Context" to the first Chapter of Genesis? Should we be looking to FIND those broad Contextual relationships, or staying within a passage, for "Context?"

    • @fredmcelroy2839
      @fredmcelroy2839 Před 8 lety +2

      +nutmegger1957 Well I think that the whole bible connects with itself. So the context of a passage can always bear witness to the truth revealed throughout scripture. An example is when God said to Abraham in Genesis "So shall thy seed be." Well Paul also quotes that verse in Gal. 3:16 that the seed which God was talking about is Christ. So the Genesis passage is not out of context with the truth of the gospel as shown by Paul.

    • @fredmcelroy2839
      @fredmcelroy2839 Před 8 lety

      +David Campbell if you look at Eph. 5:18 and ask questions in relation to the book of ephesians alone it can actually broaden your understanding of the book. I tried this a few days ago and even though I didnt quite get 35 (I got 32) points it helped me study the word with the goal of understanding the whole book. Now if we get 35 observations for every verse it can really help.

      Dallas Theological Seminary is a shell of what it used to be. Between Darrell Bock and Dan Wallace, their theology has become compromised. Progressive dispensationalism and their complementary hermeneutic has done much damage. Plus the school is full on ecumenical and it’s no wonder our churches have become weaker when schools like Moody, Dallas, Biola, and Grace, to name a few, have allowed worldly concerns to control them. What a shame.

    I have a very significant expectation that if we tested the good professor concerning what is specifically said and what is not said he would run into significant problems with his theology...🙂🙂

    • @stevoglez
      @stevoglez Před 8 lety +1

      +Fred Mcelroy you mean, searching for meaning in the light of the whole book panorama? Not at all, I think is even healthier. Because sometimes the book as a whole has a very definitive purpose.

    • @davidwhitehead3089
      @davidwhitehead3089 Před 7 lety +1

      Yes, in fact, we must observe a passage in the light of its immediate text but ALSO in the light of the entire Bible. Otherwise, we can assume certain interpretations that look okay in a small context, but do not then agree with the rest of the Bible.

      Wile I appreciate your ideal, the fatal flaw is that for the vast portion of history most of the saints did NOT have a book to test .....
      Even more important, until we engaged in large scale socialized education, most saints were entirely illiterate and thus totally dependent on whoever told them anything.... which of course created immense problems
      I realize that in the evangelical religion there is little focus on thinking historically - HOWEVER to truly manifest the fullness of Christ - the entire of human history needs to be considered
      My best to you in this endeavour
      PS - As you know - 1Tim3.14,15 we are informed that the CHURCH is the pillar and ground of truth.... Boy, for protestants that is a rough one isn't (and, PS, I am not a vaticanist - just honest with the text...🙂🙂)
