Great piece of equipment. Looks like it'll get the job done.
that's a 5000 gal. tank I towed them all over Korea
That front axle says heavy duty. Thanks for the tour Cody, nice to have seeing how you live in the woods and fires do happen.
The green brings back memories. Once upon a time was a volunteer in a mining town .Fire and Rescue for the town and mine site. First appliance in green in Western Australia .Isuzu forward cab (Turbo charged) with extended frame . Rosenbauer round the pump high pressure proportioning. Twin hose reels plus 4 x 2 1/2" outlets. Foam tank plus water.$ BA sets plus spares.Have a high respect for tree/bush fires, as much as wind swept spinnafex (sharp spined bush grass that burns very fast and when seed heads are still up ,fire runs like hot alcohol) . Great clips and thanks for the memories.Originally started with a 'Green Goddess" Bedford fire truck from England painted red . Timber built and the pump was as solid as they come. Now retired to Western Australian Fire Brigade Museum minus the brass bell which stayed in the station with a priviso it was handed to successive chiefs to look after. ref: /en.wikipidia/wiki/Auxiliary_Fire_Service . Great appliance and great times.
Love all the other stuff you do with Mrs W and son. cool ideas.Keep it up as not many city kids would have a clue how to survive in the wild.
Nice rig when I did my "self propelled pump" training here in NZ a few years ago now. We did it all on the old analogue pump panels using Darley's. On station we had a Scania with a Darley pump and an old International fitted with a Rosenbauer pump. Long since retired I think was the truck I believe was built in 1979.
Brother Cody, it's generally not a great idea to store your bunker gear in the same compartment as your fuel cans. S. Sally...out.
The oxygen above cancels out the fumes, right?
Hello from Colorado. Thank you for your service, we are all very appreciative.
The door opening scene was truly wonderful!
Those few seconds were so engaging!
Excellent! Nice tour, thank you!
I appreciate people with a broad background and even academy experience.
The engines I was on were wildland only. Much simpler. We always paid for carrying only 300 gallons. Not good in the eastern Sierras where it's mostly dry. But our southern Cascades weren't much better.
Right on. New fire trucks are exciting. we got our first type six last year from another department that upgraded. Already been put to use. Have fun
Man, you seem to have such an incredibly diverse set of skills. Perhaps you've talked about it in a previous video but if not, you should do a video on how you came to acquire them all. I'd love to hear some of the back story on your fire fighting days, where you learned to run big excavating equipment, how you learned your forestry skills, general tool and wood working knowledge, etc. It's very impressive!
Very nice upgrade and you will be well prepared with that engine. The turret from the cab is a bonus. Thanks for all your great videos!
That's a really cool rig Cody, hope we get some video of it in action.
Really nice rig and they can always come in handy as a type 4 engine unit can will come in handy and logging and mountain roads will always challenge it at any training and support pumper as well
Your small station has better fire engine than almost any major fire station in my country (Bulgaria) - I am impressed how your government cares about wildland fires.
***** wood = money and they know it, the difference is that the government still owns most of the wood where he is, and im guessing that in Bulgaria its privately owned?
Can you operate that thing by yourself?
Fire services provide more than just firefighting, they are an integral part of a community's Civil Defense - active in fire of course, but also in storm and flood, car accidents, cliff rescue...and in many cases, paramedic trained crew who can save a life.
Stefan Wolf it's because we have military bases all over that get threatened by the fires.
Stefan Wolf it's because america is a nation that revolves around a zionist ideology of "central bank = survival" (which is a lie) but they want money america does nothing for free and wood is money......etc
Hi Cody,
Just an observation...Maybe store your bunker gear away from the fuel cans.
Awesome truck...love your channel.
Some people: *What are we going to do, if there's a wildfire in our area?
Government: Aah, don't worry, we gave some crazy Axe boi a firetruck, yall gonna be ok.
He'll probably do a better job than the regular Fire Department
@@andrewzinner9178 i m sure of this...this is passion! A volunteer from Italy
that pentatonix and lindsey stirling bit there. love it!
I truly like the Pentatonix / Lindsey Stirling cover better than the Imagine Dragons version.
it time for a video on the progress of your small firehouse. I love it wish I could find a little single 4x4 rural brush engine.
That is certainly awesome! The opening was certainly done well.
Cant wait to see any tests or it in action (not too close to you hopefully)
awesome video Cody. Being a volunteer firefighter myself your fire videos really interest me. Keep up the great work!
My only concern with old vital equipment is replacement parts and proper maintenance schedules.
Excellent hope it works great for you
Wranglerstar i love all your videos i grown up living off the land in rural indana n i just love watching keep it up
Old school here too, Love that station !
would love to see this thing in use. Even just a demo.
That is a very cool machine, congratulations! Thank you for sharing!
I'm loving these older videos!
Looking forward to seeing more videos about her!
Great vid Cody I wish I could come run some wild land stuff with you.
That's a really cool fire truck. Look at the stack of leaf springs on that front axle! I agree about the mechanical things being more reliable. Electronics are usually what give you the most trouble. That little fire station reminds me of the VDF my uncle used to belong to in Arkansas. They donated a corner off of their property to build it back in the 70's.
I took a hotshot shots class back a year ago I think and we want through everything even rode the hellacopter which was awesome!!
I drove an ARFF truck fro 20 yrs in texas our trucks had an auto eject : electrical and air connection at the rear of the truck ; its a simple system that stalls on the truck and the hose ; and ive seen the drive across the ramp draging behind
SO AWESOME! would love to have something like that for a regular daily driver!
Thanks for the video Cody. I am a volunteer FF in the community I live in, in Arkansas. Found the video very interesting, thanks!
How come you don't want us to see the name of your fire dept? Everybody knows you run with Mt. Fuji Fire Dept. LOL
SUPER COOL!!! Cody you are an awesome individual!
That's awesome! Great job! I'm looking to get a trailer to condition into a fire fighting trailer!
I took my EVOC on an engine that looked very similar to that about 10 years ago now. Only difference is ours didn't deck gun access from the cab, but still very nice rig!
Fantastic Vehicle!!!
Please get your bunker gear out of any compartment containing fuel....
EMS gear and oxygen should also be moved to another location!
Stay safe!!!
Yeah, I missed that one. I'll add two things to that. First, oxygen bottles should not be stored anywhere near grease, oil, or fuel (gas or diesel). Your compressed gas tanks on a vehicle need to be secured in brackets. Most tanks like oxygen are filled to 2000 psi, and SCBA compressed air tanks I believe to 3000 psi. You break that valve off the tank, you'll launch a missile. Remember that the gas is coming out through a 1/4 " hole. Like I said, a missile.
that and pure oxygen burns on contact with anything unpure
Nathan .Vanderslice it’s almost never pure oxygen. It’s compressed air like an air compressor in your garage. Not flammable.
Josh T medical oxygen is pure oxygen. Scbas are compressed air
Kaleb Johnson kinda what I was saying. Most people don’t run around with pure medical oxygen. Mostly bag valve masks and the like. An ambulance might have a tank but I doubt his personal fire truck has that. Kinda assumed it would be an air tank “scba”. At least that’s what we carry on our trucks.
1 Have you tried out your foam making with silvifoam or other wildland foam. The municipal foams can be more toxic to fish.... Leads to persecution of the innocent after a fire.
2 drafting ability can you pull up to a beaver pond and refill or provide a temporary pump station? Or carry a small Wajax.
3 mixed results on having quick deploy folded hose compartments instead of hose reel. Wildland fire protection used to have a preference for rear mount reels?
4 turret will use up your water really quickly . Make sure it can deploy foam.
(Doesn't look like a foam nozzle?)
Useful if you have to drive through a fire -after you get those fluid leaks stopped.
5 the wildfire units I built all had spring hold down mounts, and anti corrosion coating on the inside to reduce tank breakage. The spring mounts stop the tank from breaking when the truck from flexs.
6 beware of taking that tanker trailer off good roads - pretty high and prone to tipping or blocking FS roads. Hard to turn around too if there are no landings.
I have a lot of respect for firefighters. My Dad worked for the Greensboro Fire Department for 30 years. Dad dealt will structure fires but you are dealing with the weather elements and that can pose a much greater challenge. Thank you for your service.
Congrats on the new department truck! I grew up next to a fire station and always thought the trucks were awesome.
Nice Apparatus! :)
I trained on a similar panel.
Hope she works hard for you!
that's a cool design for the monitor control. I helped a similar volunteer fight dept figure out how to set up two pneumatic cylinders and air valves to control their monitor remotely.
congratulations on your new truck. She's a dandy!
What a great engine. Should sure kick-ass at a fire scene. Cracked tank is a major issue. Hopefully it's repairable.
I've got an '84 class A engine. Have a lot of fun working on it. It's always ready to go. My class A foam is laundry detergent mixed with phosphate (poor man's Phos-Chek.) Neighbor never had much interest in my engine until her sisters' house burned down. Now a lot of interest. Amazes me more people don't have their own fire truck.
Thanks for the tour.
Just a thought Cody, how about parking the water tanker next to the shed and catching rainwater off that huge roof to fill it? Standard practice in Australia to catch as much rainwater as possible.
Awesome truck, thanks love this kind of stuff, rock on !!!
I would love to see you do a video of the antique truck too!
Looks good brother.
Did I see a Jaffery valve in the pump operator's compartment? I live in Hinsdale, NH right at the border!
very nice engine!
Love your videos sir! Please keep them coming!
That must have been one small airport as I have never seen an ARFF unit that small.
Your water tanker looks like the US Army M131A4C but you would have to look inside the door on the data plate. 5000 gal over blacktop and 3800 gal over dirt roads. Made for fuel but covered to water.
Timberjack Thompson that's correct. I've worked on them before I personally have never ever took them more than 4500 over hard roads and you are right about the 3800 dirt roads
Those Draeger Panorama systems are the Cadillac of SCBA's. As a HAZMAT tech I've worked with MSA, Scott and Draeger and given the choice I'll take Draeger every time. You're fortunate. I would recommend you move the O2 bottle into a different compartment than your fuel. If that bottle leaks at all it will increase the oxygen in that compartment and therefore decrease the flash point of the fuel vapors. Something as simple as a spark from the latch on the door could ignite the right mixture. Also, not sure how well turnouts resist breakdown from the fuel vapors. Now I'm curious if they're suggested to be kept away from VOC's while in storage.
Correction. I used the wrong term. Flashpoint is not decreased, the Lower Explosive Limit (LEL) would decrease. Apologies.
Michael Noyes
If all those 12 volt lights aren't bright enough just let the fire get a little bigger.
Looks nice!!
nice old scool truck Cody! bom proof!
I respect what you do
On my volunteer fire department we have a 3000 gallon tender on a Peterbuilt chassis and it looks to be about half the size of that military unit. I would bet that tank holds 5-6 thousand gallons.
I do watch your channel quite a bit. I worked in a Municipal Maintenance Shop for a number of years. We had four Boardman's and they were front line for 40 years. All analog and reliable. There was one that went brush pumping in a worse case fire in the mountains. The fiberglass tank developed a leak. Sandblast the area and a bit more. Add fiberglass and as little resin as needed. Paint and seal it with epoxy paint. It should burn in to the glass and grab the structure. Use fiberglass about the same coarseness as the tank. The truck is a happy 48 years and is used in the same mountain area with a volunteer department. She still does not leak. My job makes me happy every time I see her.
excellent! Thank you for sharing.
Awesome truck!
You are definitely living the life my friend! I am so jealous...
that right there at the end is why i love u
I dont know how large an area you have to cover but with that pintle hook on the back with a dolly system you may be able to town that tanker trailer if need be. (depending on the towing capacity on the truck.)
DRMO supplied your tank trailer. They re-utilize military gear to other agencies, federal, state, county, and municipal, depending on the conditions. What does not get reallocated is auctioned off.
Well it's not my colour but what the heck ... I'd love one! Cheers for the tour .. right up my street that one and I can see why you're so keen :o)
by the way.. this is a few years old.. were you able to fix the other truck water tank.. must prevent freezing.. setting up a thermostat switch that turns on at 32F and off a few degrees warmer.. you will also need a circulation pump that fix into the water tank so the slightly warmed water is circulated to avoid cold spots.. some tanks have a threaded drain or bung so a water heater element can be screwed in. again.. circulating pump and a thermostat as you don't need it above 32F. .
that army water trailer is probably over 4000 gallons.. i don't know if the yellow rig has a pintle hook if so you could scrounge a 5th wheel dolly like is used for pulling double trailers to drag the big tank around if you have not been supplied a tractor to pull it..
That cool. I love the old day truck y’all have, Keep it for good. You can’t get those these days
Nice truck!!
so freakin awesome... i dont even have words...
Nicely built truck, right color too. Some of those old pumpers like that had a pto driven after the transition an not before.. Know which one it is before you need to use it. If it is after it can change gears randomly while pumping an spike the pressure. Those trucks you cant walk away from like the others. Someone has to always have their hand on the controls or someone could get hurt. Learned that the hard way many years ago. An that was a truck I had been running my whole career. I got complacent an took my hand off the controls. 3 seconds later 600+ pounds of men were launched across a parking lot.
That's what the relief valve is for
On paper it is. Complacency though.... That is a valve you have to remember to set every time. In the rush to get water to my crew, I did not. I had men down hill from me spraying down in a hole. The person that pumped that truck last had it set high. It spiked from 75 to 300 at the truck. 100% my fault. But even if that valve had saved me/them, I should not have let it happen in the first place.
I want one! congrats
Thanks Cody for this and all your videos. I don't get time to comment this time of year, but I want you to know I always watch each one you post. I am subbed to over 500 channels now, but never miss yours. As a tanker driver, I thought you might want to know that military tank trailer is probably 5000 -8000 gals. Not 3000. It should be marked on the frame near the dolly legs. It might be important if you're thinking it's empty, but it's not. John
Nice Rig!!!!!
We have very similar signs for buses at my job. Every now and then someone yanks the air line, regulator, and concrete anchors off the wall.
Nice old engine..🚒
Nice Rig buddy
I know where you might be able to get another box& pump for backup for that truck you have there.
Does it have locking differentials? If you put in some lockers you will turn that thing into a tank. A pair of ARB lockers has been the best upgrade to my truck so far. You engage those babies and you can drive out of almost anything.
Man, that's beautiful! Hell, I would use that as a daily driver!
That looks suspiciously like Yale, Washington. Up on SR 503
You got the Denver tool
I like that truck man!! Darley, waterous, or hale??? Shoot, at our vfd that's all we've known is the old analog gauges and valves. We were still using the old Scott donkey (u know what) air Paks up until the time I left almost 3 years ago. No question about it the stuff works and was made to last. Same with our old engines. We still have a 71 ford pumper in service. I'd like to look you up and tour your station sometime! We even had an old Chevy the electric pump engage switch went out and no one ever fixed it. we always had to use the levers underneath to engage the pump every time. Your videos are awesome man! Take care!!
love this engine!! awesome!!!! turret!!!
Very cool!
By the time that thing gets to the fire it'll be out. Looks heavy !!
Be careful with those pop up doors. We had some pop open as the engine was leaving. Tore a BIG hole in the building and tore the garage door down with. Not a good day. Nice looking rig!
Great service you are providing. That tank from the Army is closer to 8000 gallons.
No way cool ! I would like to see ya shoot the turret water cannon !
Nice rig
you should add a highlift first responder jack to your truck
its the ultimate multitool
sweet! be cool to see what that truck can go through. love the remove before flight sign...lol
SWEET truck! Can you make a driving video? I'd love to hear that old jimmy roar.
Hey Cody, about the air line for the truck. What about intsalling an air fitting that is ment to come apart when its pulled on hard like for trains. Just a thought. Great video. Thanks.
I know that song, It's my favorite. Oh the truck, yep, it's a beauty!
