  • The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimates that three out of every four new infectious human diseases - including coronavirus diseases like COVID-19 - jumped from another species. Viruses are trying to infect new hosts all the time, but there are a lot of barriers that they need to get through before that can happen. First, a new virus needs to come in contact with humans, then overcome the body's natural defenses, and finally spread between people. But at any point along the way it can be stopped dead in its tracks. Here's what needs to happen for a virus to jump from animals to people.

    Several factors may affect these selective pressures during interspecies transmission, either within the virus or the host. The adaptation of influenza viruses between humans and pigs is likely driven by selective pressures or bottlenecks imposed on the virus population during IAV host jump, as a result of the changes in the host environment.

      You have a wrong notion of a virus that got out of the lab is automatically fabricated or synthetic. Natural viruses stored in the labs could find its way out if there is negligence or complete disregard for safety or mishandling by the technicians themselves.

      It seems that this is a very popular opinion these days..that scientists can just magically develop a new virus out of thin air..that is 100% not true..yes, they can be enhanced and modified but that's it..I really don't want to believe that it was released from a lab and I hope we'll get the truth soon cuz there are so many people out there saying that is was so I don't know what to believe anymore.

    • @danycashking
      @danycashking Před 4 lety +1

      @Amen Knowtech You can tell from the genetic make-up whether it is naturally occurring or artificially fabricated, in a careful lab setting it is, from a practical perspective, impossible to create a gene sequence which looks random and natural, because you don't have infinite resources and time to test and observe every single variation, and computer modelling is not good enough to date to replicate that entirely virtually, especially since we don't understand the biggest parts of RNA and DNA, we can identify them but we aren't yet sure what exactly each does, even for a human. Usually, modifications are made in the parts we are fairly certain will have one of the intended effects, which means changes are rather obvious. And plenty of scientists and defence entities around the globe already analysed COVID-19 for features that would indicate that it's artificially developed.

    • @dianabasic2284
      @dianabasic2284 Před 4 lety +3

      @Amen Knowtech actually some people seem to believe that unfortunately..I am aware that what you say is true..trust me, I know..I study microbiology and genetics..I just want to know the truth..I would be extremely dissapointed if it was actually released from a laboratory

    The fact that we have thousands of animals in cramped living quarters, shoulder to shoulder, in Concentrated Animal Feeding Operations is where these things come from. Or from unsanitary conditions with many animals and people in close proximity like a wet market. When you have 10,000 chickens all standing next to each other in a giant shed, you have the prime opportunity for viruses to go from immobilized host to immobilized host in squalid conditions where it can spread like wildfire and pick up more and more mutations.
    We could drastically cut down the chances of the next Novel Zoonotic disease by not raising animals in these obscene quantities in horrid conditions

Refering to zoonosis automatically implies pathogens from non-humans moving into humans, so arguably it's perfectly fine within the context.

    If we want to put an end to this vicious cycle, we need to look for alternatives. There are more models of successful food animal production systems that are remaining extremely efficient and the need for antibiotics are nonexistent. Also, on the rise, the number of traditional/natural forms of raising animals known as “open air” grounds, or local farms. These systems are more enjoyable for the farmer and for the animals as well, with no need of antibiotics and no present diseases. This allows for “the farmers to be farmers, animals to be animals, and lets us save antibiotics for future generations.”

    What's really amazing is that the virus is basically a string of 4 value code that gets run like a computer runs things when it gets injected into a cell. So this means that the cellular hardware is basically to some extent compatible between like bats and humans. It even has like self forming helpers and sites. In the 1990's it was believed the only form of species to species transmission was with mad cow disease which is known as Variant-CJD (vCJD). But this has been disputed many times. More recent scientific studies instead found that it may have just been spread through blood transfusions.
      In most cases, you literally have to consume another organism for it to infect you. And if you can hypothetically get it from another species it seems to be either impossible or incredibly rare until some scientific study can prove otherwise.

    I can see all factor at China mainland wet market, even including slaughter, their way managing animals market for consumption is not effective, some even really disgusting. No hate to Chinese, all can see that many good Chinese hate those things too

      Travel might be a reason closer to the truth. In earlier human history, people did not travel much. And travelers lived outside the town while they were visiting which protected the residents a bit.
      But, yeah, early cases if Covid-19 were tourists to Italy, and cruise ship travelers.

      @@Allen.Fepuleai It is not possible for the whole world to stop eating animals. But we can make our meat clean and healthy. We just need to shut down and ban factory farms that is producing highly contagious and unhygienic meat.

    I subscribed to this channel to just learn crazy one-off interesting science stuff. Sure this maybe interesting and good to know but I’m so sick and tired of hearing about viruses and Coronas and whatever else related to this. Now that’s all this channel posts about. Please go back to those one-offs about pufferfish or dog myths. Please. Not another virus thing
