I still do loved Treasure Planet and it's the most Underrated Disney animated movies ever made

One of my favorite lines from this movie:
    Jim: “You gave up the…”
Silver: “It’s just a lifelong obsession, Jim. I’ll get over it.”

    I like Doug’s idea here!
    👍
His idea of a “Treasure Planet” is basically like what we got in The Road To El Dorado, except if El Dorado was a whole planet!

I haven't seen Treasure Planet all the way through, but I do think it one of the most underrated fims that Disney has made. And I'm glad that Nostalgia Critic gave it a second chance! :)

Also, I agree that he should do a review of Hercules as James Woods' performance in it only makes it an S tier movie!!!

This is an interesting criticism that I hadn’t considered before.

I always did feel like there was something missing from this climax, but I couldn’t put my finger on it until now.

14:01 - 15:58 Oh no, you don't, Doug. Don't you dare throw shade at 'I'm Still Here.' I freaking love this song. I do agree that for the time period blending, the song choice may not be fitting, but it's meant to get across the passage of time during the voyage and to build the chemistry between Jim and Silver, since Jim is conflicted with both the warning of Billy Bones and the comradery with the only mentor figure he's had without his own father. Also, speaking of Joseph Gordon Levitt, I can't help but think of one of his first characters getting abandoned by his Dad in Angels in the Outfield, and it's kinda part of what brings a tear to my eye later.
What're you gonna do, rip on Don Bluth's Titan A.E. for songs like 'Cosmic Castaway' during Matt Damon's intro scene, or 'I'm in Over my Head' for the later ship building montage.
😰Actually, the more I think about it, I'm gonna regret mentioning that, aren't I?

Yeah, that about sums up my thoughts on what I think is the biggest problem with this movie: the ill-timed inappropriate humor. I hear a lot of people (including Doug) complain about the comedy being the weak point of The Hunchback Of Notre Dame or Atlantis The Lost Empire, but I think it’s FAR more distracting here than any previous Disney film!

Critic does bring up a good point here.
    🤔
If this was true Steampunk, Jim would be dressed in 1800’s attire like everyone else, and behave/talk more like someone of that era and less like a millennial. As is, he doesn’t feel super distracting, but he doesn’t feel entirely immersed in this world either.
We might also have spent more time on how everything in this environment works.

If you like the movie, i really recommend Breadsword's video on it, as it was the first i ever saw. It's also one of the most heartfelt and fascinating studies of a film's developpement i have ever seen. Hope you can react to his stuff soon !

Disney was utterly un-supportive of this movie as the execs felt that it didn't fit the company's image, added to the fact it was coming out in a time when Disney wanted to shift the focus over to 3D animated movies. It got very little advertisement pre- and post-release, got released alongside big shot movies like the second Harry Potter movie and Disney's own The Santa Clause 2 (instead of what normally would have been done and delaying Treasure Planet not to get overshadowed by those releases), all of which ensured its failure at the box office and has gotten no mention by Disney since then.

And here we have my other biggest problem with the movie, and I think Doug address it perfectly here.
    🧐
It’s a shame, because I actually really wanted to like Dr Doppler. The way the movie starts, he has a bit of a “cool uncle” relationship with Jim, and he is the one who ultimately convinced Jim’s mother that this voyage would be good for all of them.
I almost want to see an alternate version of this story where the surrogate parent role is given to Dr Doppler or the captain instead of Silver.

Final Fantasy 6 was steampunk, not 7. FF6 was steam machines, thermal arctic heated snow towns, post-Victorian opera theater and pre-industrialst Italian deco. FF 7 was more TechNoir like Terminator meets Blade Runner, with aspects of fantasy Europe and 19th century China outside of Midgar.

Treasure Planet went in one ear and out the other when I first saw it.
    🧐
Then when I saw it again, not too long ago, I felt similarly to how Critic did in this review. I really wanted to give it high marks for how it portrays Jim and Silver, and I don’t think the movie’s shortcomings are bad enough to cancel out the good parts.
But every time I saw it after that, the bad parts just get worse and worse.
    😓

And there he is, the Treasure Planet equivalent of Jar Jar Binks.
    🤬
Thankfully, he’s not in the movie for very long, but every second that he is makes you wish Flint had taken his voice box instead of his memory!

@ThatSexyNerdReacts lol VHS was my childhood. I had tons of Disney movies, the orange Rugrats VHS. Then my dad had a million recorded movies on tape. That's how I watched all the Superman and Batman movies, The Blob (do not recommend as a 6 year old), predator, etc.
