    Set by Capt. Alberto Larraguibel in Viña del Mar, Chile, on February 5, 1949.
    The captain trained his horse "Huaso" for more than two years and
    previously had also set the South American record.
    This record still stands until today (2013).

    Brave horse to have fallen so hard previously..he must have trusted his rider implicitly, and the record is still unbroken...just shows what an amazing horse he was.

    I come from that town in Chile. All i know is that Huaso the horse lived like almost double the age of a average horse. And that after the jump he retired forever in green pastures with free food and water until his last day. And after the jump no one ever rode on his back again. Happy story 😍

    I admire a horse who runs at jump like that and is just like "I got this"

    That may be the bravest athletic accomplishment I have ever witnessed. I've watched it a dozen or more times now and each time it gives me chills. Huaso gets so deep into that pit before launching nearly straight vertically; breathtaking. Knowing he had the courage to stare down this obstacle after it bit him on the 2nd attempt is beyond words.
    Bravo Capt. Alberto for establishing an amazing level of trust with your equine partner and then rewarding him with a saddle-free lifetime of pasture!

    I don't like that kind of competitions, they have really high risk of serious injury. But both the rider and horse did amazing job, preparing for this competition. May they live in our hearts forever!

      @tauma_the_goat7156 Před 5 lety +4

      Juan Gamiño well you have to really train a horse from a long line of showjumpers and train him for that purpose (to break the record) then you also need to have incredible equitation and a brilliant seat

    • @songbird6414
      @songbird6414 Před 2 lety

      @@tauma_the_goat7156 you’d also need to be willing to either cripple the horse in doing this or retire him immediately afterwards. It’s borderline not okay.

    really good and it's actually pretty bad for the horse's frontlegs look how much pressure he gets when he lands :(

      i remember this story from my home town :) fortunetly for Horse huaso. . when he did this jump he retired to live in green pastures at the age of 16. his gift was freedom without no one riding him until he died happy at 30 years of age. Respect !! :)

    From what I saw I think he had four more inches he could have done it.any horse that crashes and burns with his rider on the second attempt and then jumps 8 ft 1 that's some bad ass s***!!!!!!. Huaso, still the baddest ass equestrian high jumper ever. Dear Brutus in San Antonio almost matched the record, but the judge, Frank chapot. Didn't quite have the jump set up right. The top rail required washers that weren't on the pins that hold the pole.Maybe Brutus would have done it maybe not. It was an awesome night cuz I was there standing right next to the jump. But Huaso is still the Secretariat of horse jumping.

    There's a guy in northern Vermont that has 2.55 meter jumps from his horse, with no rider on the horse.

      A rider that weighs at least a hundred 50 lb knocks that .55 to ?. Go jump something by yourself and then put somebody on your back and try to jump it.
