I had a viewer that didn't like my explanation of the advantages of a pwm. Now, I assume that if you have made it to this video you have an idea what the advantages are but in an attempt to be as accurate as possible I would like to share this page from the Newport Vessels website... Enjoy! newportvessels.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/360056225814-PWM-Pulse-Width-Modulation-Overview
Bought one of Mark's units earlier this year for a 55lb thrust Minn Kota. It works great! Am buying another for an 11 foot boat I've had for several years and recently converted to foot control steering.
Have you built any for a 24v 80lb thrust Minn Kota Riptide? I'm not sure any of the ones I've seen can handle the amps for extended periods of time. I was thinking of putting one on my trolling motor on my flats boat. My head unit has went out and Minn Kota no longer offers a replacement part. Saltwater series with a motor with brushes.
Are you still marketing these PWM units? I have a Classic Accessories Colorado pontoon boat. Just purchased 5:26 a 30 lb thrust Minn Kota Endura. Would be interested. Thanks
Yes. The kill switch interrupts the negative wire of the fwd/off/reverse switch or the power wire of the potentiometer. Your choice, I prefer the switch because I cut it off in lieu of a waterproof switch anyway. Thats it!
can i use those pre made 2 pin solar light wire kits to make the wireing look good? its sae 10agw wire its made for 12 guage systems i dont know enough about wires ability to move power
I have MK Endura that I run off a Rebel LiFe battery equipped with bluetooth that allows me to monitor the battery activity via a phone app. The amp draw on speed 1 is NOT the same as speed 5. Please explain your comment about the motor using the same power regardless of setting?
I have an ancient (late 90s'/early 2000's) Motorguide "Thurster 36" and recently tested it current draw using a LiFeO4 batt with BMS and Bluetooth. On bench with free-spinning shaft it pulled 2.5 A at all speeds. Draw only increased as load was added. In the water with a 2 blade prop pushing a 13' Saturn inflatable (FK396) (~480lb total weight), speeds 1 and 2 drew 8A 3 drew 11A, 4 15A, 5 31 A. I am not sure if I am going to go with the standard PWM method or with the ESC method (based on the HOBBYWING Quicrun 880 ESC) The first one I watch was on channel "Will Shelby Kayak Fishing." I am still reviewing info in youtube comments and boating boards to help my decide. I am leaning toward the hobbywing method. "Will Shelby Kayak Fishing's" also uses a wireless throttle controller ($32) and a $18 programming box to configure the hobbywing ESC. He also has a parts list for the project. Check it out if you are still experimenting. Another interesting channel (RC something) features a dude in the Seattle area experimenting with stuff. One interesting video used a custom-built pontoon RC towing vessel with propulsion system designed for RC scale model watercraft. The towing vessel was RC and had a GPS module. He was also testing whether a solar range-extender was feasible/useful. Ever since seeing that video I've been curious about the practicality, efficiency, and durability of RC model propulsion and control components. The wireless control and GPS integration was 'obvious' after seeing him do it. :)
Ya, when I first started selling these I had only tested with the 46lb. motor... at this point I have had no failures with the 55lb. motors, with at least a half dozen out there being used with them.
@@TahoeYakFisher TYF Rocks !!! Thanks for the quick reply because I’m right in the middle of the build. My only other issue is I ordered a PWM for a brush motor and Minn kotas are brushless. So I will order a new one.
Where is email to buy a Controller for a 45lb thrust trolling motor? Can't see a email on this channel? Any one have a ideal how to get in contact wit owner?
Do you have a link for the control module you used Iand how long did that one last you I’ve burnt out all of them the one I have now is just an on off switch
The primary reason I quit selling them was the effort of acquiring circuit boards. I would purchase circuit boards from two or three vendors until I found good ones, and then I would purchase all that vendor had. The only failures I had were attributed to customers hooking them up backwards... the unit I am using is at least 3-4 years old and still going strong!

Are you still producing and selling these? I have one that is a few years old and it’s starting to cause motor cutout. I’d like to purchase another if possible.
@@TahoeYakFisher no worries I get that. I’m mostly curious about adding the kill switch somewhere in the system. Can you hook a kill switch directly in line of the battery and motor or are the wire sizes too small on that kill switch?

This man builds them really nicely. I bought one off from him and they work very well! Props to this guy!
Can you send me his info? What did it cost?

Nice work. Having the ability to bypass the pwm in case it malfunctions is a good idea. I left the original head on my motor so I can do that too.
Same here. Output of my home built pwm box has the same connector as the output of the battery box.

Good morning ,
I just saw your video in CZcams.
How much you charge for plug and play unit. I need to buy the trolling motor still.
Thanks,

sorry if I missed but what amp pwm is this made with?
Would love to buy one of these off you if you’re still making them!
what amp pwm are u using and which brand?
I see you're no longer selling these but do you know if anything similar is offered on Amazon or eBay?
Sweet. Will be shooting you an email.

How do I purchase one of these
Hello, how much do you charge for this?
Hi Tahoe yakfisher can I ask how to I put the kill switch in where do I put the wires on can you please tell me mate
Nice work but should the controller have some way to vent heat? Also which amp control are you using for 46Lb thrust? Thanks
No problems with heat... 50amp max, 30ish continuous.
Do you have to modify the wiring in the motor speed controller?

Yes, set the tiller at full speed forward, and the pwm will control from there. Make sure the pwm is off before turning on the tiller!
