This song is about you.
The girl reading at the end was the singers step-daughter from his second marriage, the second girl singer is his actual daughter and then there is a third girl, who adds some screams of 'Generation Z', she is the daughter of a punk singer friend to the band who passed away.
Not all their songs are bleak but they definitely don't write pop ditties, Fat Mike is a very creative lyricist and tackles a ton of subjects that most artists & bands wouldn't dare to. After 40 decades together and coming from the punk scene of the 80's you can imagine that they have seen some things, they actually put it all in to a book a few years ago - not for the faint of heart.
It would be great to see you give NOFX another go, they have 15 albums worth of material (plus various EP's) to dive in to so you'd be spoilt for choice!
Genre wise, I prefer to call this Melodic Punk instead of pop Punk. This shit ain't ever gonna get played on the Radio.

I think it's impossible to look at mankind as a whole without becoming depressed and completely desperate. I don't even think that the song is very pessimistic, it's quite moderate. When i think about mankind the only honest conclusions i come to are------We are the worst failure of evolution and we deserve to go down, more than any other species before us. When we are gone, this planet can breath again and finally recover!
When i imagine a blank planet.....just landscapes, plants and maybe somewhere some remnants of the last civilisation of mankind....long gone, long forgotten......this thought, this inner picture finally puts a smile on my face.
Absolutely, humans are the worst thing this otherwise beautiful planet has had to endure and the day that we are no longer here cannot come soon enough. The saddest thing is because we have nuclear power stations, if we could all go in one swoop, It would mean the planet would probably be so damaged as they all explode that it would take out all the other life forms too.
