Yea I agree. It definitely sounds more like the vibe of how the hunger games films seems like. I don't like the hunger games but from what I am told mocking Jay part 1 seems a lot more darker then others. (I think all of them are dark my that's my opinion)

Exactly I can imagine rereading the book to this it fits the mood, people forget he's a talented producer he didn't change the song to dramatically but he definitely changed it for the better. People just don't like it because Kanye redid the song if it was someone else it'd be fine and dandy. He's a jerk with a huge ego sometimes but he is defiantly smart and talented producer and entrepreneur.

I feel like both versions of this song show 2 different sides of Katniss.
Yellow Flicker Beat shows the badass Katniss. The Katniss that destroyed the arena. The Katniss that shot down the hovercrafts in District 5. The Katniss that shouts "If we burn, you burn with us!" at the top of her lungs.
Meanwhile, Flicker shows another side that's rarely seen. The Katniss that made a mini-funeral for Rue. The Katniss that sang The Hanging Tree. The Katniss that almost ate nightlock. The Katniss that swore to kill President Snow.
Both songs are amazing. They really show how important producing is when you're trying to convey a certain emotion, which is why I'm glad both versions are on the soundtrack.

You know what I find funny? People think that they have the audacity to tear down this remake of Lorde's song just because Kanye West did it. What would happen if Kanye West's name wasn't in the title? I bet more than half of you would say that you love it and some of you would even go on to say that it is better than the original. What you people need to learn is how to separate an artist's personality and their work. I absolutely despise Kanye West as a person but I have to commend his career and what he did on this song. By stripping the song of its original beat and adding 808s on top of it with a few melodic piano breakdowns and the choir in the background, he made this song all the more haunting and perfect for a dark film like the Hunger Games. I also feel that this beat actually fits Lorde's vocals better than the original because it helps convey the darkness that Lorde's voice brings and it isolates her and allows the listener to really hone in and focus on her. As for the comments saying that Kanye West is talent less and doesn't know how to make music, you better have a good explanation why. Have you listened to The College Dropout? Late Registration? Graduation? 808s and Heartbreak? My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy? The man has sculpted one of the most diverse discographies in music today and in music history and has yet to repeat himself from a sonic standpoint and from the albums I named, he has offered enticing lyrical content as well. Seriously learn to separate art and person and just acknowledge that Kanye has transcended the genre. You don't have to enjoy it but if you don't at least respect it, then you better have a very reasonable explanation why so (and "He's such a douchebag that's why" isn't very constructive).

Good points, Orson Scott Card is another great example of this. Dude is a complete asshat, but that doesn't make Ender's Game any less brilliant. I do find it interesting that all the people supporting Kanye only list his albums, when he did a ton of great work that would make the point even stronger on other people's work. For example, the Blueprint, one of the greatest rap albums of all time.

      @dubiousxmusic6189 Před 9 lety +26

deadmike naffer Fl4dd3rm0uz it's honestly ok if you genuinely dislike it. I'm not defending the song because the music is subjective to the listener. My issue comes in when people tend to say they dislike something because so and so is a douche or some other unnecessary insult. there should be a clear distinction between the music and the person because I feel that the lines get blurred in too much. The only time we see Kanye is when he is out in the public eye. We do not know him but rather we know what he lets us know about him and what he lets us see. some of the things he lets us see and know are quite questionable but there needs to be a clearer distinction between the music and the personality of that person. I do agree that at some point personality should matter but that shouldn't be the basis of the argument because that proves almost nothing in terms of the quality of the music.

He knows how to sell music while dominating the hiphop/rap music industry. You hate on him for his ego and arrogance but has 21 Grammys and all his successes to back it up. I'm glad he's producing reworks like this.

This version, though not bad at all, seems more appropriate to the first film instead of Mockingjay, where there was a lot less "hope" among the characters

Can everyone stop saying how bad Kanye's music is? It really isn't. The top comment states that this is the only song Kanye touched that isn't dog shit. I mean, set this song aside, are you forgetting about Amazing? Stronger? Power? All of the Lights? Heartless? All of those songs have deep meaning behind them. Most of you listen to all his arrogant words but have you ACTUALLY listened to what he has to say? I doubt it. I doubt any of you people have listened to Runaway, Jesus Walks, Hold My Liquor, New Slaves, Gorgeous, Monster, Hell of a Life, and all of his other (extremely) under-rated songs. Instead of listening to your extremely popular Taylor Swift (where all her songs are exactly the same) or Daft Punk (where many of you haven't listened to till this year) or even Eminem (where his new music is shit compared to his old ones), try giving good artists, like Kanye, a listen. Fun facts: Lorde's favorite songs of 2013 includes Hold My Liqour by Kanye West, Kanye won 21 Grammys, Kanye scored the most critically acclaimed album (My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy) of 2010 (with a score of 94), Martin Scorsese (One of the greatest directors of all time, not to mention his great taste in music) featured one of Kanye West's songs (Black Skinhead) in the trailer of the Oscar nominated movie The Wolf of Wall Street. By the way, I'm not trying to say the Kanye West is the best artist of all time, I'm saying that you all should think twice before giving a bad name to Kanye. He is definitely ONE of the best artists alive. Sorry if there are any grammatical errors, I'm only typing what I feel blindly. In case you're wondering about how bad my taste is, my favorite bands are Green Day (old songs), Radiohead, Parquet Courts, Arcade Fire, The Ramones, Vampire Weekend and U2.

What you probably didn't know was that his mother died around that time and he fell into a slight depression, which he tried to cover up with alcohol. While he was drunk, he went up and took the microphone from Taylor Swift. Although it was still unforgivable, you gotta have sympathy for the guy. crazy how when the first hunger games movie came out she was still just a kiwi still chilling going through everyday life doing the norms. probs watched the first movie in the cinemas with no one in the theater knowing who she is. crazy how far two years can take someone.

I don't care what the edgy tabloid-slave 14-year-olds who've never heard a note of Kanye's music have to say, this is a bomb rework. His composition did a lot to strip the poppier elements of the original in favor of brooding atmospherics, which I think is a great choice.

    The two verisons are different.
The original one feels like when Katniss is standing in front of the crowd saying that she is now the leader of the revolution. But she is obliged to be the leader. Maybe she can't bear up with it.
This one sounds like when Katniss is alone at a corner. She thinks of the hunger games, the country and her lover. She is tired and infused with hatred.
Undoubtedly, this one is more dark.

  • @lollystalk

Kanye West is amazingly talented. I won't deny that. He's great at what he does and he knows it. But sometimes it's best to be modest. When you show you are too into yourself, people start to judge you and you start to think of yourself in a way that isn't right for your talent. Modesty is a great way of thinking. I don't think confidence is a bad thing. In fact confidence is attractive and can be very beneficial, but I think Kanye takes it too far sometimes. You should ALWAYS think of yourself in a way that you believe that you can always get better. No matter what. Thinking you are a god and can do no wrong, isn't the best way to think for anyone, especially in his line of work. If he continues to think he can only get better instead of thinking he's perfect...great things would come out of that. And less people would diss him so much. We wouldn't forget all his faults and things he did wrong, but we'd see that he was not only growing with his talent, but with his humility.
