  • This video features a rare Australian built 6x6 Offroad truck. It features a supercharged 2 stroke Detroit Diesel V series engine, an Allison Automatic transmission and specialised Australian designed and made Permatrack off road Articulation suspension. In this video, I give the Detroit diesel engine a service and show how I’ve modified a cheap sandblaster into an oil vacuum machine to get every last bit of old oil out the sump. This is the first real test run the truck has had after sitting for about 6 years. We go through gullies, paddocks and tracks to see if it will start and run right after a number of years. Thanks again for watching.

To a diehard Detroit fan, that truck is hotter then a weekend in Vegas.

I have a soft spot in my heart for the 6V53. The 6V53T is the power plant that ran my M113A3 APC back in my mech infantry days. Great engine.

I like how Bruce cleaned the top of the valve cover, by the oil fil, so no loose dirt fell in. Bruce you are a true old school Professional!!!!

I have a funny story. Over here in the states there’s a heavy equipment/truck auction called Richie brothers. I worked there for a bit and once there was an old dump truck of sorts that was 2 stroke that came through. The muffler had rusted through. Boy you could hear that truck all the way across the yard😂😂

The 6V-53 has its own special sound and I think it's the best sounding Detroit there is.

I grew up near Rainbow Beach, halfway between Gympie and Goomboorian. What a surprise to see the old garbage truck on youtube! It was always a bit of fun heading to rainbow for a swim and getting stuck behind it on the Tin Can Bay road. you'd be praying for a gap at the few overtaking opportunities or it was a slow drive at best. It was parked up across from the victory pub for a while but disappeared years ago. I'm l'm glad to see it getting the love it deserves and learning more about a truck the was a big part of my childhood. Cheers Bruce

Hi Bruce, I drove many two stroke gms in mining as a young fella. 75ton wabco and 120b wabcos. Air starts. I'm a bit deaf now. Love your work mate. Not many are as thorough as you today. Keep well mate

Now that's a grocery getter- all the comforts of a modern tractor.

  • @shansamara

Did you guys see that spider hanging onto its dear life while wind surfing on the side of the truck listening to the 2 stroke roar? I think it was grateful for having 8 legs to hang on, but 48.50 it eventually viabrated and fell off!

Thanks for the great videos, this has become one of my favourite CZcams channels. Is great to see machinery worked on by someone with experience and who works with care on even the oldest most uncared for machinery!

  • @kerrybwalker

Bruce just unleashed everyone's inner child, thrashing a Detroit around paddock - this has to be my new daily commuter to work ;)

  • @boostbogan

What an absolute treat! finishing off the evening with another quality video from the man himself!

  • @tygertyger8597

Bruce, that Detroit sound is absolutely beautiful music. Thanks for the video.

Hi Bruce, just a quick note to say that your vlogs are a breath of fresh air. Maybe it’s something about my age (70) Unrushed dialogue and good camera work. Reminds me of my apprenticeship back in late sixties. Your knowledge is clear, you know your stuff. I hope you enjoy making these videos as I want to see more, at your pace I’m a fan. Thanks and regards MrPlod.

2 stroke Detroit and TS3, both great barkers from my childhood, thanks Bruce.

  • @detroitdiesel12v71

Seeing him revive this old sweetheart makes me want to get my 12v71TT powered k100 Kenworth cab over.. haven't had time to maintain it enough to be road worthy, once I stopped running it around town, it unfortunately ended up getting parked in the barn, been there since 2000, last time I touched the ol rig was when I drug it in there with my wrecker.. it's time to bring it back to life.

  • @Bigknucklesandhands

I ran a truck that had a Detroit at our local steel mill and loved it, that truck was constantly brutalized by hot slag and refused to die even with a hole in the block the size of a baseball……later on after our mechanic had the time to remove the engine I was able to weld it back together using nickel rod and they still use that truck several years later.

  • @supercuteguineapigs

You are absolutely magical Bruce, we are so lucky to be able to see you work it ❤

  • @jamesbroughton9900
