  • Welcome to a special CRT Market Watch episode. A program completely dedicated to talking about the Cathode Ray Tube sales market. Today I will be taking a closer look at a unique CRT that is for sale/sold. That is the Sony BVM D32E1WU Broadcast Professional CRT Monitor. This is the rarest and most sought after CRT left in the entire world and this sale should break a new record for single CRT sales on eBay in the United States. Retro Tech is the best place to discuss CRT Sales and Repairs.

    Everyone on my Discord was watching this unfold. I actually messaged the seller before any bids had been made and warned them about how terrible their photos were, as well as gave instructions on how to change their camera settings to capture photos without waves and distortion of the screen. A few hours later the photos were updated and the first major bid came in. Can't believe it sold for 7 grand.

    I had one of these in my edit suite when I worked at post facility back in the early 2000s. It was hands down the BEST picture I had ever seen on a CRT. I used to be mesmerized by it daily. IIRC the owner of the post house paid approximately $30,000 for the monitor new from Sony.

      @@RetroTechUSA Hello Steve! Hey, can you travel to central California, or do you just have monitors brought to your shop for service? I am not even sure where you are located:) I just purchased a BVM A24, and had to justify that $5000.00 to my wife. It went much better than expected. She said, "fine....but there is a $350.00 bird cage that I want", so I said....FINE! I got away with spending 5 thousand, and she gets her bird cage. I already have a PVM 2530, and this is the monitor that I think may need a recap. I have recently ordered the 240 test suite for Sega Genesis, and SNES. The picture seems like it needs calibrating, but on one side.....as the black screen gets towards the top......I notice a couple of bulges on the edge. I don't see any adjustment in all your videos that address this issue. But again, I am waiting for the test suite, so I can (carefully) remove the back cover and play with the potentiometers. I am glad delivery methods are backed up online right now waiting for my test suite. This gives me plenty of time to familiarize myself with all your calibration videos over and over again. Heck, I am even memorizing what each H. and V. potentiometer actually does, along with pin cushion and pin phase. Thanks for your response to this message sir, if you would be so kind as to give me one:):):)

    It’s the economics of supply and demand (a bit like with property prices). There are very few D32’s around, and not a huge amount were made in the first place. Now they have a niche following and regarded as the pinnacle of CRT monitors. I let one go for £600 in 2016, but I no longer had the space for it. I’m certainly not in a hurry to lift one again though !

    • @marioe.4400
      @marioe.4400 Před 3 lety +1

      I'm hard-pressed to believe that the difference in quality matches the HUGE difference in price...
      Aren't there PVMs and BVMs in the 500-to-1000 dollars realm that are just as good, but smaller?

      I'm aware this particular model accepts all signals, but are the sharpness; color accuracy and black levels better than ANY other out there, or is it mainly due to rarity?

  • @bnr32jason
    @bnr32jason Před rokem

    I wonder how much this would sell for today. With 20M2 medical units selling for $1500, maybe $12k? I mean I'm not necessarily surprised, videophiles will pay $20k or more easily on a projector for their home theater.
