This 4th I unknowingly put an artillery shell upside down in the tube and it exploded on the ground. The tube is luckily made of fiberglass, and the report was fairly contained, so thankfully, at their very worst, those shells are fairly safe.
@@areshorror had a bottle rocket war like 20yrs ago and the old coot neighbor at my buddy's house started chucking mortars at us like grenades. they are a little sketchy but not that bad.
When you start to make your own accessories like bottle rocket guns with pvc pipes is when it gets dangerous

If you've ever actually had one and looked inside it, it's just a regular firecracker wrapped in plaster. They can only add so much flash powder to salute firecrackers anymore. Fireworks are lame nowadays unless you're making them yourself.
They usually contain 30mg of flashpowder, 50 max legally. They're not like the M-80s that used to be allowed to be sold that would contain 80 grains of flashpowder.
They're weaker than you think.

That's literally nothing, I live in SoCal suburbia and for a few hours past sundown it literally sounded like constant distant thunder. Closer fireworks would go off multiple times per second and further away ones created incessant white noise.

fireworks are generally not legal in most places but fourth of july it's often too busy for them to handle everyone so they just let people off as long as you aren't being dangerous. easier to focus on the people which are being dangerous than the safe ones

Those magic crystals are a super fire hazard because they randomly zip off and burn for a while. They really like to get stuck in tree tops jetting flames out the bottom
I will testify that for mortars (the ones you load into a tube with big boom in the sky) I have had a ton of malfunctions from the more lightbulb shaped ones where they only launch like 2 feet. There are others that are more cylinder shaped which I’ve only had good experiences with. Launches really high every time. Luckily too because the kind I get explode way bigger than any bulb shaped one.

Canister shells are absolutely the best consumer grade firework available! Just don't be deceived by 7" or larger shell size marketing... Most reputable 4 or 5" shells contain the same maximum 600g powder load as overpriced "8 inch exteme power ultra insanity death wish mega super shells" packaged in flashy over the top packaging... But if you want quantity over quality for the price, decent name brand ball style mortars still do pretty well for less money because they don't require the unnecessary packaging to try justifying the absurd pricing of some of those larger cannister packs... If in doubt about dropping $100 on a cannister mortar the "Excalibur" line has basically set the standard for performance:value... Includes 4 high quality launch tubes and 24 quality cannister shells without having to resort to spending more on the stupid packaging than the firework components... Unless you've seen or used something as good or better for the same price the "Excalibur" is always a good go-to cannister kit to buy or reccomend to others in the "higher tier" firework price range...
@@berryreading4809 I don’t think I’ve been lucky enough to find a deal like that. One I usually get has a dozen or so but I don’t remember the brand and didn’t do them this year unfortunately :( but I’ve tried a verity of both shaped shells over the years.
@@berryreading4809 randomly, we got one of their sets and lit them tonight. They were extremely huge and great, well worth the price instead of getting lower costing single tube variety of whatever. We were super impressed. Huge and loud, and a literal bang for the buck. You're 100% right.
