New age spotlighters don't care anything about intuition and everything you're saying. Bass fishing to them is just running around the lake looking at their FFS until they find fish. Bass fishing to us and to them are two entirely different sports.

Totally agree, but 250 hp motors, cell phones with way points, Maps sold with waypoints on this channel, spot lock, GPS, $6000.00 trolling motors, (4) $1000.00 lithium batteries, youtube fishermen, 2 D sonar, sidescan are all part of video game fishing. They are all stimulants.

I taught my boys how to fish for crappie and bluegill. Not bass. I taught them to keep what they can eat, and release the rest. Respect the resource. Unlike how bass tournaments do.

Hell Randy, I’m in commercial construction. You ought to spend a day with me. I’ve got a bunch of construction science majors who think they can build a 5 story building setting at a desk.
But they couldn’t tell you how to figure concrete, tell the size of rebar or what a fricken crescent wrench is. AND don’t even talk about ready a tape measure.

Decades ago I read of _"Zen"_ fishing for trout. (not a title.)
    I only remember that ...
When the water was _first_ in sight, he walked away from his truck, empty-handed, and sat still/silent for 10-15min.
Sorta, to _be absorbed_ or whatever _Zen_ does for perceptions/gut feelings.

Since technological innovation will NEVER stop in the U.S. do you have any actual viable solutions to suggest vice just continuing to rant that technology is destroying bass fishing? Talk is cheap and actions always speak louder than words. BTW, since getting FFS 2 years ago and learning how to use it bass fishing has become fun again because I've increased my understanding of bass behavior ten fold since being able to watch them in real time ...

Randy this is what technology has done to the world in whole, not just fishing. When given a choice, the easy route (technology), or old school (hard work), majority of today's world will take the easy route. This train of thought is driven by one factor. Money. Reduce these big payouts from tournaments and see how many fishermen drop out. If tournaments are going to allow technology at least make them work for it. Just my opinion.

I think better anglers make fishing decisions based on reason and knowledge/experience. To call this process "intuition" sells them short, because "feelings" can't compete with competence. You may fancy that a thing is instinctive, but it isn't correct, strictly speaking. Your choices as a human, are not analogous to instinct in animals, but are more likely a distillation of previous experience and other factors which produce a decision. It's like calling science "settled". It feels nice to think you have a phenomenon figured out, but the scientific method itself allows for you to be starkly wrong, because you intuitively decide that you know all the things about it, and have excluded the reasoned, scientificlogic of those who might know or subsequently learn, more than you can imagine. The intuitive processinvolves imagination and guessing. The deductive mind can get past the consequence of feelings and move on to developing new knowledge and adapting to a new paradigm.

There's a lot of truth in what you say and there's a lot of truth in what Randy is saying. Let me tell you something in my 50 years of fishing and I'm 62 now okay. There is a lot of speculation and contradiction in Bass fishing. You are speaking as if the Bass remain stationery and unchanged once you have figured them out. Well sir a Bass does not sit there and wait for you after you figured out some of the parameters about its behavior and movements. It has a brain and a tail. It can swim and think. The way they behave is constantly changing. When you have years of experience doing something you do have feelings of intuition that are a direct result of knowledge and experience that do matter and could potentially outperform a scientific formula. Bass are alive thinking eating moving swimming. Bass fishing is not a perfect science.I have to ask you how much Bass fishing experience do you have? If you're a Bass fisherman are you using live scope and and find Randy's content intimidating because you don't have the level of experience that he has? Seems to me you're coming from a place of perceived superiority over Randy's rational. Just listening to the way you're talking I can tell there is no way you have the fishing experience that Randy has. I couldn't see any of the best Bass fisherman in the history of Bass fishing tournaments talking the way you're talking. I would say yes you're rationale does make a lot of sense for elements that are stationary controlled and consistent. But not always for Bass fishing.

I don't think todays anglers have the disipline and drive to learn that intuition. I see it all the time if staring at that screen and tossing a soft plastic isn't working there done. They think they can learn to bass fish by watching youtube. It takes years of spending time outdoors to really get that sense of whats going on around you. Some people see things, hear things, smell things, and feel things that others can't.

I know the haters who love unlimited electronic technology in their competitive fishing will disagree, but in fisheries management, there is the concept of "bad gear", which proves itself destructive to the aims of specific fisheries management visions, and therefore can be excluded from a fishery for reasons that it's deleterious to that, or those fisheries. I think for a man to justify his insistence on using a gear that is in question as "bad", he will justly need to make a reasoned argument for his position. To merely state that boomers hating on the young misses the obvious point that the gear may damage a fishery's sustainability, and he therefore might be forced to relinquish the bad gear because the "haters" are, in fact, trying to protect the fishery from bad gear, and actually are standing up for the stakeholders who utilize that fishery. Therefore, to make the statement that anti'-FLS voices are prejudiced against the young, and not prejudiced for the continuation of a traditional fishery, is to invoke the need to bring reason into their argument, as opposed to pointing at the haters and vilifying other legitimate stakeholders as of limited mental capacity.

    • @jefferytodd3265

Your points are probably correct. But Randy makes a point of calling out young anglers. He constantly uses pejoratives like "some 20 year old", or "this guy your never heard of". I haven't heard him come after G-man or King Clunn (both of whom I love, btw). Frankly, Randy's good points on the subject of FFS are overshadowed by the way he goes about it.
