  • Today I replace the weatherstripping on the driver's side door in a 2001 Toyota Tacoma Xtra Cab. Apologies for the absolutely awful video quality in this video. I needed to get this done though and I thought it would be helpful. This should work for any first generation Tacoma, just order the part at your local dealership and install yourself as I do in this video. Thanks for watching and have an epic day! #IAmTheWarranty

    Great job Dart! I also need to change the another weatherstrip located on the door frame, at the top where the door meets the frame. Do you know the OEM part # for that?

      I'm afraid I don't... There's a solid Toyota parts website that you might be able to find it on called Toyotapartsdeal.com

    Thank you for taking the time to walk us through this replacement. I’m going to be doing the on my 02 4Runner. I’ve had good luck finding parts, even very small parts, at junk yards and pic-n-pulls around my area. Hopefully I can find weather stripping that is in good shape! I just subscribed to your channel and am excited to keep watching your videos. Keep up the good work!

    I don't even own a Tacoma, I own a Tundra, but your delivery and production quality of the video made it enjoyable enough to watch that I watched the whole thing anyway. At highway speeds my Tundra has some air leakage from the weatherstripping on the drivers side door, but the replacement is a bit more complicated since it's an access cab and not just a single cab door. I've been too lazy to do it but it really needs to get done :\
    I shouldn't complain. The weatherstripping is the only thing I can possibly complain about and this truck is 20 years old.

    The weatherstripping is coming loose from the back hatch of my 4 runner. Otherwise it’s in condition and not cracked. What adhesive is best to use to get it to stay back in place? Thanks!

    Thanks for the video. I have a 2004 SR Xcab and need drivers door molding. I noticed in newer versions of Tacoma that the plastic piece to put ones foot on when entering truck, the new trucks have the plastic piece fits over molding where your foot would be placed. I am going to look into whether we can buy that piece to replace the original to keep the seal from being stepped on? Just FYI. thanks again.

    I'm installing the same said weather stripping...question, did you use any adhesive or seal just snaps into place...?thks fo rthe vid...

    • @DartBProductions
      @DartBProductions  Před 6 lety

      If you got the weather stripping from Toyota it should have the seal/adhesive already inside the edge of the stripping. If you want to check, just pull back the edges of the stripping so that you can see inside and there should be a line of black adhesive that runs all along. When you press it into place on the vehicle it will come into contact with the edge around the door and the adhesive will stick. However, if you want to use your own adhesive I don't think it would hurt anything. Thanks for asking!

    • @michaelbrick9730
      @michaelbrick9730 Před 6 lety +1

      Ya! there seems to be some kind of goo inside of stripping edges...very lightly added from factory toyota...thks for the reply and I can see that the stripping has a metal frame that keeps it conformed as designed for conformity...I see the reason to mark with pencil to install stripping so that it fits correctly...I'll do passenger side first...should be easy from here...later

    went to Toyota in Seattle area -$225 + tax = $248+ if Toyota pays shipping from their distribution! That is just crap! Isn't there a weathestripping made by after market company that can sell a comparable door seal. I see them advertised but need to know what type of seal it is D type, or what etc. Somebody should have the same type that we can buy. i see 19 feet of similar weather seal for $20-25!

      I'm glad you're enjoying my content!! I actually was learning to do a backflip on a trampoline and faceplanted. Somehow the mat scraped the skin on the bridge of my nose off. I do my best to give it the care that every vehicle deserves, but it is rare to find Tacomas that are this clean nowadays.
