It was written when he was in that band but he never released it with them.... it was later released in a sound track containing many bands and shinedown was officially formed
Dreve was signed to Atlantic Records but when they started writing new songs Atlantic Records didn't like how they worked as aband & dropped them. Signed Brent & got him Shinedown.
i dont know much about shinedown but come on every song they do rocks. its like the only band ive ever heard that every song they do i love. the lead singer has got to have one of the best voices ive ever heard 0.0
For everyone saying Myles Kennedy is a better singer than Brent. Myles was actually trained as an opera singer Brent had no vocal training until he got sober. It was only so he wouldn't blow his voice out although he still did because of touring too long without brakes. He sounds amazing here in 2023.

LOVE YA GUYS teach me and watch me and i'll never quit on you. COLD NATURE is springing to action in May(or later on that year) of 2013.
Myles Kennedy has a powerful voice, a voice meant for power/progressive metal vocals. The Real is one of several awesome songs that prove this. How many other mainstream vocalists today can hit those high notes AND keep it there as long as he can?
i will NOT compare cornell and brent smith, if i did that it would tarnish brent's god given talent for writing AND singing and for those who say BSC or SG are harder obviously hasn't listened to all of Shinedown's music and should be ashamed for their lack of misjudgment oh and btw he makes the songs difficult to do in the studio!?

This is a really good song. I like Shinedown a lot, but I had never heard any of their songs from before Leave a Whisper. Oh, and in response to some comments that Brent can't sing anymore: That's ridiculous. I saw Shinedown two or three weeks ago, and he sounded fine to me. The only complaint I had was that on a lot of the harder songs he jerks the mic up away from his mouth and it makes it seem like the sound is cutting out. It might look cool, but it sounds kind of annoying...

@SconeRabbit It's not on any of their albums. They have more than three albums to. they have deluxe additions of some of their albums and they have bonus song on them. Have you heard of the Rolling Stone Original by Shinedown? It's amazing!!!! All acoustic

As for him being a stand in for Stapp, he is just a better singer than Scott in my opinion. No reason that you have to rip on someone just to make your opinion known.
for one i'm tired of hearing about a temporary creed stand in, aka kennedy. for 2 miles wtf ever his fuckin name is is louder i have seen both bands live many times funny things is alot of you all talk about kennedy being better if that's the case then why haven't they sold erm i dunno 1/10th or even 1/5th the albums shinedown anyone can yell and as for soundgarden
i agree. i love the band overall, but im not at all impressed with their shows. he also tries waaaay too hard to be all hardcore creepy and shit and he doesnt pull that off well either.

I would say he has Chris Cornell like vocals but his voice. He has power, soul and a 4 octave range & as of 2024 Brent can sing all kinds of music.
