Also random note😛 yeah Jungkook is shy and not the most talkative but also one of the biggest jokesters and pranksters! He’s just more likely to do a body gag like random flips or stunts falls than tell a funny joke. He also gets away with THE MOST as they see him as the cute baby brother. He’s also loves the gym and is stronger that them all so they complain about him abusing them when he hits them or picks them up and they can’t really mess with him. Maybe why they use words to tease him the most

It's not a cultural difference... it's just bts. In Korea the "idols" had to be perfect, bts broke that rule since the beginning, if you listen songs like "young forever " "Nevermind " " begin " "tomorrow " "Whalen 52" " airplane pt 2"... etc. Or RM'S last album called "mono" you will be able to understand how much their music speaks to us. (Look for the lyrics).

@kazsou66 That is what makes them so special, and I think that is also what differentiates ARMYs from other fandoms ... for the most part the kpop is superficial, it is about the looks and the choreography, but for ARMYs it is something much more deep ... this week an article came out that said if you join BTS fans, if you join Army it means being ready to fight for a cause, that's the best way to describe us. Bts is not for superficial people.

Loved the reaction. I just want to say I don't know that its a cultural thing being so vulnerable. Most kpop idols don't speak about themselves like this, they hide themselves. BTS is probably the most open celebrities I know, they're even more open than most people in real life. I think many people are scared about being judged for admitting something like crying alone, most of us do that in secret. They are just very emotional people who know that real emotions are what people connect to and so they show themselves to us through things like this and also their music because its important to connect, I think this is a big part of why they've been able to appeal to so many people. They talk to us like friends, I don't see them as being celebrities but just friends I hang out with.

    • @MidnightEkaki

@TrulyTaekook You're getting offended over nothing. I said "most" idols first of all, not "all" idols. I know there are other idols who open up about their feelings even before BTS I've been a kpop fan for many years. But my point was its not really a cultural thing, its BTS who decide to open up to us. I still think BTS are more open than other idols, and I'm not just referring to expressing their emotions but also other things. I was expressing my personal view on idols and BTS based on my experience, if you disagree then you can but I'm also allowed to express my point of view.

Thank u for ur reaction. Speaking as a Korean, it's definitely not a cultural thg to be this open in Korea, although things are changing slowly for the better. It's certainly an improvement frm my mother's generation, but there's still definitely a wall/taboo re. mental health & showing ur weaknesses, even today. And it's definitely wasn't the norm for Korean idols to be this open either & esp. be this vulnerable in front of their fans - in fact, it was the polar opposite. The very notion/idea of being an "Idol" there - perfect & godly - came with huge restrictions frm big "Kpop" companies. They were only to be presented as the perfect final product, phones used to be taken away frm them & they weren't allowed to be themselves. Enter BigHit Entertainment who let BTS vlog, unedited, even before their debut, unpolished but authentic, openly communicating with their audience abt their joys (like getting new pants!) to talking abt their struggles, depression, hopes & dreams & frustrations w/ their daily lives, like normal teens do w/ their peers. It was raw, sometimes cringy ;-) but brutally honest, to a degree that, at that time, it wud be unthinkable that any label wud release this sort of content (cos they never wanted their Idols cringy, imperfect, talking abt their struggles - everything that took the shine away frm being an idol.) But this is where BTS was different. BTS were also 1 of the 1st grps to rlly embrace twitter & thus have the biggest following in Korea rn. Their boss said it just didn't make sense to take technology & the way that young kids communicate these days away frm them - let them communicate authentically as any other normal teens wud & let them write songs from their own stories, hence their 1st album being abt the harsh school system, school violence, living in a society that has already written u off or doesn't respect u cos ur younger & feeling patronized by adults & being forced to live someone else's dream. He said that he didn't want to create some sort of perfect, unattainable idols to be worshipped, he wanted BTS to be considered friends where the fans cud actually relate to their music. Their boss was actually a songwriter too & his philosopy/approach was definitely different frm the other companies - their byline is "Music & Artist for Healing". Nowadays, after seeing the success of BTS, all the other companies have pretty much tried to adopt this more open system, cos they've realised that ppl don't just want perfect but unrelatable gods when they can have authentic connection with an artist. I've seen some other grps & sometimes u can rlly tell it's forced cos they don't always have this genuine friendship. But I'm glad this way of being is getting normalised, it's a much healthier & better way. x

I will admit I was kinda worried you guys weren't that interested in the video but your analysis the end showed you were actually paying attention. Jungkook can be shy and not as talkative at times but he seemed tired (maybe just to me) so he was even less talkative but still very much present. JHope doesn't drink much if he does it's just usually a glass of wine so by the end the alcohol really hit him haha. He turned red and became more quiet at the very end (probably had a bad hangover after this I'm guessing). Suga was surprisingly very open and talkative in this, he generally is way more reserved but when he talks about his work and music he has lots of interesting things to say and the others tend to listen well because they know this about him. He's not a big talker so if he is speaking he, especially in a setting like this, he has something important to say. RM always surprises me at how well he speaks and how poetic he can put things. He doesn't put himself higher then the other members, he genuinely wants everyone to be heard and feel supported. They all feel a close bond and comradery, they genuinely want each other to succeed.

I'm an introvert as well so I understand, I would rather just sit back and observe people myself. Yoongi is definitely more outgoing when he is well rested and talking about things that he likes or matters to him. He hates small talk so that's something I can relate to.

One thing you should know about this video is that it was filmed in spring 2018. They have since revealed that the beginning of the year 2018 was a very tough period for them where they had actually talked about 'disbanding'. They basically had to decide if they would renew their contract and continue as BTS, which meant that they had to evaluate the lives they were leading. It was at the same time as (after winning a BBMA and performing at the AMAs in 2017) it had become clear that they were on the way of becoming (one of) the biggest bands/musical acts in the world. They had so much pressure on them and had to decide if their lives as BTS were actually worth enduring everything that comes with it. They mention some of those burdens and worries here. Another aspect is the level of responsibility they feel towards their fans.

about jungkook -- bts is actually the reason why he got over his huge shyness and quietness from back in the day. when they first started out he used to be super camera shy, used to not talk much, and was reserved even around the members. he was not only the youngest among them but really young for industry age in general (15 in korean age which is around 13-14 in our international age). their ceo and main producer even shared once that before bts debuted there was a point where he even doubted that jungkook would be able to debut, since he couldn't sing when people asked him to. he was that shy. and it's all thanks to the 6 members who act like doting older brothers who brought him outside of that shell. and that overt doting is something that never stopped, which is what's always present in their interactions with jungkook. evne when they tease him, they tease him differently like other members. it's always with some sort of fond feeling.
another thing that crossed my mind while listening to your end discussion was how you guys talked about how you wonder if this vulnerability and openness is a cultural difference or something. not really. it's actually goes against almost everything the korean idol industry is about. the usual kpop industry is about "idol" being a "perfect/flawless" being, selling perfection in every sense. that's why even the smallest things could harm kpop idol's images. that's why most idols don't have any say in their creative processes, etc. it's all very controlled usually what they can and can't share. in bts' cases that's something they have been going against from the start. they've been part of creating processes, telling their own stories since the start. they've been sharing behind the scenes everyday life things with fans since the beginning. they use their twitter like any other normal twitter user and not like how idols used to use it only just for promo stuff mostly. they are very open and down to earth with their fan interactions and also with each other. which isn't a cultural difference but just something purely them. which is why they are different in so many people's eyes. even their good relationship as a group is unlike the kpop industry norm, most kpop groups don't end up close to each other as a group, they are mostly working colleagues and only few friendships form between some members. but bts is said to be different even in that regard and it is something ppl in the industry have been saying as well.
in a lot of ways that's why fans tend to ask new people not to equate their experience with bts and how they are to kpop overall. bc bts are an unique case in a lot of ways not just in western context but in their own industry as well.

Am sorry to shock you but alot of kpop group members dont like eachother, dont get along or have a buissness mind set. Not many groups see eachother as family and value the sum of all above ones selfish need to shine. I think what makes BTS special is their bond and ability to communicate with eachother. DarkAngelvalo its always cute when a kpop fan tries to teach me my own culture 😂 many kpop bands dont like each other but equally many do indeed like each other. there is no societal pattern of antipathy among koreans or any kind of people for that matter just because they are under entertainment management. im sorry to have to shock you as well, kid. but your entire knowledge on the matter you discuss is based on the work of PDs, image management and infamous korean tv show rehearsing. most of korean variety is scripted and rehearsed. from running man to 놀러와 to 동물농장. the stories they tell, the jokes they make and the reactions to it. its planned, designed and executed to entertain, which it does. im not trash talking BTS, they are talented and hard working forsure just like any other kpop bands. I respect them all. and of course they have something special for being the most sold kpop band in the world. but you come off very young and inexperienced, slightly ignorant, for trying to make an insightful argument on this industry based on your mere “audience knowledge”. i am korean, i live in korea, i have worked with people from that industry and I have friends in that industry. trust me when I tell you 1) most (not all duh) kpop members get along as they are just regular people that got marketed as stars (as is every celeb btw, even tho you worship them). they are trained under the same roof for the same brand, sometimes for years before making a debut and trust me, that experience alone makes you life long friends in most cases)
      2) bands like big bang or super junior, 2 pm / 2 am, 2ne1 and many, many more have debuted earliest in 2006/07 and already were in variety programs showing a family like bond and deep relationships they openly expressed. BTS are nothing new or special at all if it comes to this. they are special for whatever reason you want but not their relationship, as thats special for most bands but simply not chose to be displayed the same way.
to sum up, I have nothing against you personally and I pray that you dont misunderstand this as an insult because that is not my intention. i know people get sensitive if things they love feel criticized, I didnt come here to shit on your parade. but rather consider this a tough love reminder to a fellow human being. never think you know it all without having any knowledge and most of all inside experience about a matter you interested or passionate about. BTS, army, whatever, its all entertainment and without you guys BTS wouldnt be nearly as world famous, so they should be grateful to you. keep enjoying them and do what you love my friend, its all love in the end

Jin confessed end of year last year at award show that they thinking to disband early last year 2018. So, i noticed that they hinted alot during this bangtan dinner party. Like suga sent a message to v and jungkook. Seem it has something to do about them want to disband or experience hard time. There was a gloomy vibe despite how they tried to prevent it from being too gloomy. However, for this year for anniversary they done 'bangtan attic' they more look happier, brighter. I think you gonna really like it. This funnier and like this one more because they seem more calm, happier.

In terms of them being vulnerable and what not, I don’t believe it’s all due to culture. It’s really a BTS thing. When people think “boy band,” they think of the typical one dimensional definition/stereotype of one. That they just look pretty and sing songs written for them.... that they won’t last (like past groups) because of egos and wanting to break out and be the star, etc. BTS is a group of boys from a small company that relied on each other like family, both domestically (living together) and as artist (writers/producers/etc) and performers to overcome all the things/hardships that has worked against them in the industry over the years. So I believe it’s unusual to talk about real stuff, the dark times, and sharing what they think is their flaws/imperfections that openly, especially as idols who are supposed to talk about pleasant things and appear perfect. Supposedly, talking about mental health and all that is taboo in their country and that S. Korea has a high (highest?) suicide rate. BTS touches on these topics (from personal experience) as well social issues, etc. They were more counter cultural actually...kind of like rebels. But a long time ARMY would be able to explain this better than I can. I personally don’t see BTS as what kpop is known for in the past. I see BTS as it’s own phenomenon.. It’s own genre and identity. Anyway, when I saw you’re doing the dinner party, I was shocked and impressed that you guys did it. I appreciate you guys getting to know them through their normal selves and recognizing some of who/what they are.
Side note: I’m glad Jimin recognizes not to score himself. If you do not know or remember, Jimin is notoriously hard on himself. Even though he’s talented and great and all, he tends to think he’s not good enough and feels like he has practices like over and over to the point of too much it seems. I believe he’s better now, at least in the past year. He’s seems happy and does not take what he considers mistakes too seriously. He can have fun. You see him comforting V and Jungkook instead when they feel like that didn’t/can’t perform up to their best. There’s a personal song he wrote and released to SoundCloud last December called “Promise.” It’s basically like writing to himself, but carried over as a song for fans. Making a promise to be your own light (and not the negative things he says to himself in his head). At least that’s what I got from his sharing about the writing on live stream awhile ago. Anyway, see Jimin’s reaction to Jin saying he sees him as “perfect.” It’s sweet that his older brother is calling Jimin perfect and gets motivated/inspiration from him.

TrulyTaekook Sorry, I wasn’t even thinking of any of these specific groups? I don’t think I’m the type of fan/person you think I am? That’s why I’m a bit confused by the naming of them. When I say boy band, I was thinking past famous western boy bands. When I mention idols, I’m thinking what I learned so far about what the kpop industry/conglomerates of the past expects idols to be like. Speaking of GOT7, I was thinking about checking them out actually because they seem like nice guys that have similar fun/easy going personality like BTS.

@TrulyTaekook Sure many groups do that now but when BTS did it, it was not typical for idols and they were made fun of for it. Even last year when they cried during their MAMA speech so many K-pop fans made viral tweets with so much interaction mocking them and their vulnerability (which is ironic since it was all these same people preaching about taking mental health seriously after Sulli) and so many K-pop fandoms trended a BTS disband HT after the speech. There's been many industry insiders (you can search up) who say that K-pop companies have relaxed the social restriction rules since BTS became famous, as they saw that this made them connect more with fans.

BTS openly and sincerely talking about their emotions, especially their fears, worries, insecurities but also the way they are trying to live with those emotions is actually one of the main reasons the ARMY love them so much. They do it all the time and have always done it. That is something that is specific to BTS and that is what makes them unique. That's why so many ARMYs see BTS not as celebrities but as friends. We connect on a level of sincere humanity. We feel that we aren't alone with our own emotions. BTS, although they are so young, have deep wisdom and allow us to accompany them on their own journey through life and give us strength. They say things like: It's OK to feel really bad sometimes, it's OK not to know what you want to do in your life, it's OK to be scared and to be vulnerable - we feel the same. And ARMYs talk about those feelings with each other too because of BTS. That's something people who don't take the time to really learn about BTS can't understand and that's why they don't understand the ARMY's level of commitment to the boys. That's also the reason why their lyrics are so important and the fans take them very seriously (and hate it when people don't look into the lyrics and the meaning of a song), many comparing translations to get the nuances, for example. And we also know that BTS feel the same way about ARMY. That's something else many people don't get: that the love and commitment between BTS and ARMY really is a mutal thing.

    • @ktsleeve
      @ktsleeve Před 4 lety +1

This comment has so much truth in it. The very foundation of the relationship between ARMY & BTS is the LYRICS which are multilevel & often BRILLIANT poetry. Their songs are a form of communication with us and have many metaphors and symbols that form a language between BTS & ARMY. It’s really not easy to explain to someone who hasn’t looked into their lyrics or the story that runs through all their songs, but there is a shorthand wherein certain symbols & words carry a lot of meaning. .......
We ARMYs talk a lot, don’t we.

This dinner really shows BTS just being themselves. Bangtan has always been different, unique, and genuine about their feelings. One SK industry insider said that of all the K-Pop groups he has ever worked with BTS was the only group where they really were like brothers, and they truly worked and supported each other as a team. Not surprisingly, he stated that in a lot of groups many members just tolerated each other and/or saw each other as rivals. While other agencies are now having their groups pitch loving yourself, dealing with difficulties, etc. in a bid to gain traction and relevancy, BTS just keeps on being BTS. RM has stated that they are not the representatives of K-Pop, that they are just BTS. That is why so many of us fans are not K-Poppers, we are just ARMYs.

"To understand someone, stand under them." He basically talked about as a leader, he should bring them up to be the best they can be, even if it means to have them surpass him.

Even more impressive considering he joined bighit at like 16-17 years old and was only 19 when they debuted. He had to be a leader from a young age while at the same time facing criticism from all sides and trying to make good music for (and with) his team. For such a young man he really has his head screwed on right and has always had the best intentions from the very beginning even if the way he put it forward has changed. Btw you should check out one of his early solo songs called Do You, you'll see what I mean.

The great love they have for their work is no joke. Just as the love and respect they have for each other, it has been fundamental for them to be where they are now, people see sincerity in them, that is why they have such a large and strong fandom. Hi guys, I have watched your reactions to many different topics for quite a long time now. We are of a similar age, and have many of the same interests in the movie/TV world - interests that I am usually very happy to be vocal about. One of the interests that I am often less vocal about, however, is BTS; people can often be quite critical and dismissive of those who like K-pop bands. This is why I can comfortably say that your reaction today is, to me, one of the best reactions you have ever done. Not because it was necessarily the most exciting video that you've reacted to, but because of the genuine respect (tempered with just the right amount of poking fun!) that you are showing a group I admire, and by extension the respect you are showing the group's fans. BTS tend to be hilarious and goofy-as-hell, but also thoughtful and philosophical, and in-turn I think you offer that as reactors. It's a really nice fit.
I'd of course love to see you react to more BTS videos in future. In particular, I think something that you would enjoy is the 8 episode documentary series BTS: Burn the Stage. It's an intimate and frequently hilarious chronicle of the behind-the-scenes aspects of the world tour that cemented BTS' fame. It's absolutely fascinating to get a real sense of both the backstage and onstage drama, whilst at the same time being very uplifting. For copyright reasons you would have to watch it on Patreon, but I'm sure a lot of the BTS army would be interested in following you over there since you've been providing such funny and interesting perspectives on BTS videos.

I don't really comment much on reactions actually basically never really lol but somehow I felt the need now cause man do I LOVE your end commentary at the end of the video. It shows how you really payed attention and make some great points. 48:06 Yes, I was still watching and watched till the end and no I don't regret it lol loved it! So some of your questions: Yes, Jungkook had his birthday recently on the 1st of September and just 5 days ago on the 12th September it was Namjoon's :) and about the culture it's actually rather quite common and the opposite to not be that open, they always did quite go against the norm of what was common especially when it comes to the music industry in South Korea, that's part of the reason what makes them so special from the topics they talk about in their songs to being as open and genuine as they are in real life which makes sense cause you also see in these conversations how later, songs are literally born from their thoughts and words they expressed in videos like those. it's so heartwarming. If you for example look at the song Paradise, it talks about the pressure of society always promoting competition and this belief that you got to have a dream, Yoongi (Suga) talked a lot about that from his new year greetings message to this dinner table talk. You just really see how their thoughts make it into their creative work, it's amazing. About your amusement to Jungkook being so quite lmao it's funny cause he is such a dork really when he is with the others and in general people he is comfortable with since he is an introvert but at the same time is this shy little brother you witnessed on here. BTS (the other six) and the fandom honestly have quite a big, soft spot for him cause he is the youngest and started at a really young age (trainee since 13 and debut in the group 15) so he gets away with almost everything which led to the saying maknae (the youngest) on top which the older boys joke about often (so they dote on him more rather than bullying even though ofc how you said they do tease him a lot in a endearing way) however as much as he is really funny he also really matured over the years and his thoughts when expressed are heartfelt and deep as you said again😂. Man this became long and I still could talk on and on about each one of them like your commentary on Namjoon about his leader position like oh boy he is just really someone you don't meet often in life and I honestly would just wish to sit down and have a talk with him... all in all, yeah they really are so special & awesome but I will leave it at that😅 Thank you again for a great reaction & the time invested in the end talk going as far as to go back to the moments you talk about!

Suscribed instantly for the sarcasm and wit. I've seen more reactions than I could count over the years. Loved the way you broke it down at the end. ARMYs can be a little much at times, dont get too pressed if they start requesting more. We love seeing the various thoughts people have.

  • @-idkwhtimdoin-_sendhelp-337

You seriously need to react to things like evil maknae vs hyungs and Jungkook bullying his hyungs😂

You missed parts, too. The reason why they were so shocked about the text Suga sent is because he’s not someone who texts often or long paragraphs or says I love you like that. Yoongi is an introvert who has trouble expressing his emotions and although he loves them all, he doesn’t always outwardly say it like that. So it meant a lot to them that he put that effort forth.

About them being open in this interview, it’s because it’s not really an interview. They do this type of video once a year for their anniversary, this is dedicated mainly to armys although it’s on a public platform. This show is also theirs, so they have bit more control over it.

They’re pretty open all the time and I honestly credit that to their boss the ceo of BigHit Ent Bang Si Hyuk, I remember them saying they go to therapy in the company, they resolve problems/conflicts together, they also have more liberties than other KPOP groups, they can date, drink, go out in public, etc he’s taught them a lot. He’s also the mastermind behind the overall idea of the concepts of their albums.

This show where the company prepared those questions for the boys and its purposely for the fans to watch so they made it personal and relaxing for them to share such topics. It was a first for them to do like a mukbang and those group interview..

I think why Suga said that BTS also do stuff for ARMY is because BTS actually are aware of a lot of the hardships that ARMYs have gone through for them.
Like the ARMYs who sent letters, flowers, and gifts to the American radios in hopes of having them play BTS’s songs.
The ARMYs who mass stream and buy their music to help them get on the charts.
The ARMYs who mass vote for them in certain awards.
The ARMYs who start and participate in initiatives in their name.
    And many many more things.
Kpop fans in general are way more active in their fandoms, but BTS are some of the only artists I know that actually go out and learn about the things their fans do for them.
They might not specifically shout them out, but that’s not the point.
The point is that they appreciate and acknowledge all the support and work that ARMYs do due to their love for BTS.

Does anyone feel strange watching BTS videos on their channel? Like I was an early subscriber back in the day on The Reel Rejects, and was and is heavy into film. Its not a bad thing, its just I feel like two worlds are colliding, my love of film and my love of kpop/BTS. I really never expect it to be on this channel.

  • @sleepyfromstress6524
    @sleepyfromstress6524 Před 3 lety

For the question about how they felt about the awards, I personally think that they either answered it more elaborately and the producers cut it out (cuz they might’ve thought it was too long).
Or since they have actually talked and contemplated a lot about this topic on their own and on other shows, it’s something that they felt didn’t need to be further elaborated on.
Like when you said BTS doesn’t really care about the awards or something, that’s not true. They do. They’re always extremely humble. They always say things like “there are so many other great artists” and they actually mean it.
