I know it sounds like the whitest shit ever but one of my aunts married a white man, and I'm white-skinned but adopted so I guess I can't really say much even though I'm PR through and through hahaha but anyway!!! American cheese works SO well in these, especially if you wanna just make cheese pastelillo for the kids. It stays melty and cooks at the exact rate as the discos. They love it.
Do you/your mom add manzanilla to your picadeo? I didn't see any so I had to ask! I know everyone does it a touch different lol. But omg this reminded me of my grandma so, so much. I miss her!!! She was northern, I'm pretty sure, but never did we call them empanadillas. Kinda cool to learn more theough your video. My neighbor actually brought me some pastelillos the other day since I made soup for a bunch of them. Another one brought me a sixer 😎. I was happy 😁
Thank you for sharing -- seriously. I'm making rice and gandules for everyone tomorrow or the next day. Idk if you've shared that yet but you HAVE TO!!! The world needs it lmao 💜
P.S. If y'all try this, then keep a bowl of water for your fork. Dip it in the water when you go to crimp the edges before frying. It helps the fork seal them better I PROMISE!!!
Also, I guess one more tip I have from Grandma is to use the spoon/utensil you're frying and pulling them out with to splash oil on the top of them while the fry, since the top is always exposed. It ensure even cooking, crispy crunchiness, and it's seriously a lot less greasy to eat.
