Case VAC rolling a field after planting grass seed.

Rolling the field after planting. I planted a mix of Timothy and Orchard grass. The tractor is a 1951 Case VAC. I built the roller several years ago. It is two 55 gallon steel drums filled with concrete and a welded steel tongue. I think the roller weighs about 3000 pounds.

After building my grass water ways & seeding with Kentucky 31 Tall Fescue, i bonded seed to soil pulling my 8 ' Brillion Cultipacker. I was surprised at 100% success rate, no bare spots on any of them

Yes, rolling after planting grass is a good idea.

What type of bearing flanges did you use on the barrels? Do you have some close up pictures of everything you built? thanks

I used pillow block bearings. The shaft through the concrete is either 1.25 or 1.5 inches in diameter.

@@darrinrussell3526 Thanks for the info. I had been thinking how 2 barrels would work for a packer, and after seeing yours in action, I know it is possible.
