Damn, i wrote my thesis on this exact topic! (to be fair, it was slightly different context, but it was about making sulfanilamide under war-like conditions like that of Sarajevo in 1990s)
Also you could have potentially saved a lot of money and made the acetanilide yourself. You just had to reflux aniline and gl. acetic acid for like 8 hours. Most literature says you need acetic anhydride, but it literally works even using just acetic acid if you reflux it long enough.

You he's smart by doing the "super acid" (whatever that is) synthesis outside using old glassware and furniture. Then at least you're not ruining your hood or filtration. Smart.
