He is like no-one else - he's Asaf, totally unique! A brilliant musician (range of instruments), composer, poet, producer, performer! His sets are always amazing (location, lighting, sound, camera angles - he's a perfectionist). He studied and worked in the Graphic Arts field in Israel originally and only started composing/playing music at age 26, I understand.
Phenomenal Performance - all his music is different- level, from another planet altogether.

Asaf is a musical genius who's here for more than 15 years, he's very well known in Europe, especially in France, and yet he 'needs' a reference from Ren to be recognized... I don't understand this world anymore )) Also, I can predict that you won't get much views for this reaction (it's always so, I've seen some brave channels with many subscribers doing reactions to Asaf but it's if those videos become invisible, they rarely get more than 1000 views). I don't think Asaf is 'underrated', it's just his audience is mostly based in Israel and Europe where the notion of success is a bit different, not so commercial.

I am Israeli and the first time I heard Assaf Avidan was when I was traveling in Germany a decade ago and I heard his voice coming from the radio and I thought it was a woman. Until between the words in German I heard Asaf Avidan and I was simply filled with pride💙🇮🇱

And I don’t know if you’ve ever listened to LP but he reminds me of LP a lottttt, still, in the song My tunnels are long and dark these days he makes me think it would be Kovacs who sings it. It’s weird but w/o watching he always reminds me of some powerful female vocalist that I like a lot

You are remembering Tom Waits when you hear Asaf. The orchestration also similar to Tom Waits's style.
Found this artist when Ren recommended him, and ended up spending about three hours listening to as much of his music as I could find, he sometimes has a sound of Macy Gray in his vocals, and some of his music has a definite soulful female sound to them and I LOVE him!
The In a box series reminds me of LP in some ways, but in the song My tunnels are long and dark these days, w/o watching the video, I thought it’s Kovacs who sang it
No matter if it’s LP/Kovacs, it’s always a soulful/powerful female vocalist that he seems to remind me of😅

I was blown away by this when I first reacted to it. The genius and creativity and the ability to do all that live is amazing. No wonder Ren recommended him they are similarly gifted.

A genius that stand out from the rest, just like Ren ❤ A cool thing is that Asaf began making music first when he was 26! He went through a major breakup and was heartbroken and in that process he began playing guitar and writing lyrics bc that was the only thing that could help him deal with the pain..

He reminds you of LP. You probably heard her song "Lost on you". Asaf sounds very similar to her. Also, he has some MAD insane singing skills that he shows off in some of his other songs where he sounds like Janis Joplin. You should hear him sing his song "Her lies". I was SHOCKED when I first heard it.

Late to the party, but he's indeed a very very talented, if somewhat niche, artist. Also mindblowing live, especially if he's without his band.
At times sounds slightly like David Bowie, and at times like Jenis Joplin.
check out lp...she has similar tone and hits high notes that are other worldly.
Asaf is one of my favorite artists, I especially love his "In a Box" recordings (I guess the less production the more authentic it always feels to me). His voice is often compared to Janis Joplin's, perhaps it was her who you were thinking of?
