  • We’ve been told social media has negative effects for its users, and we’re spending too much time online. In reality we’re less connected to one another on a personal level. This programme exposes the theories: why social media is seriously addictive and dangerous for young women… affecting mental and social development. We talk to those addicted, and the experts who are trying to help them.

    Social media and even commenting, like I am now, is kinda fueled by ego and dreams of grandeur... I would like to be praised for my brilliant comment now, thanks.

    I gave up Facebook a year and a half ago and don't miss it one bit. Today, I closed down my LinkedIn account. And I feel much better.

    Parents need to limit the time children use social media. Kids need more exercise if we are to prevent obesity in the future. Social media is idealised, we want to share our best photos and stories. Expectations are far too high. We all have the ability to reduce our hours of social media time. Time that could be used for human interactions with our families and friends. The documentary was excellent and the narrator clear and concise.

    I fell out with my friends at school in year 9, I found online forums and started talking to people I didn't know, it felt amazing, I was liked, I got replies all the time, they didnt think I was fat or ugly, I talked to people who loved what I loved and understood my obsessions (at that time it was with high school musical!). I have talked to friends and strangers online now for years, and for me it's so much less anxiety-provoking than face to face discussions with friends. I now realise that as well as enjoying talking to friends online, I actually have an urge to 'scroll' .. like scrolling down Insta or fb is satisfying, not actually reading what I am seeing!!!!

      Emma read scientific study, the scroll mechanism was created with the help of gambling theory. It is DESIGNED to keep you hooked. Awake. Drop it

      If you want to destroy your mind, it's your life, you are doing it now (destroying your mind).

      @SenkiiMK Před 5 lety +1

      And so what? You didn't understand what i was saying. Also to decide whether your mind is fine is not up to you but to other professional. Which field are you a professional in? You admit you are addicted and that very fact proves it's not fine because addiction is not something ok

    I can see how social media could fuel youths desire to self harm. However when I was 14 my friends and I had a culture of self harm when social media and the internet was still just growing in the early 2000's. I think this social media impact is really bad for bullying and for falsifying your reality. In truth it takes everyone time to accept themselves for who they are and when you get there you will feel free. Thankfully I think in the time since releasing this video people's culture towards social media has changed, or maybe that because I found it too hard and stopped using it.

    This comes as a no supriser.... Virtually everything these days is about "image" Y? Because its the same reason theres a gap between the rich and the poor.... The difference is now we judge ourselves more than others.... I never have any kind of notifications on my phone, my phone is always on silent, if my door bell rings or someone knocks on it and im home i actually think about going to open it or not and the truth is i dont feel bad if i dont because at the end of the day you have a choice😂😎😜
