I had to put my golden retriever down this morning. He was my first dog, my best friend and my brother. This song just popped up and I can't help but thank you Shawn. These lyrics are so beautiful.
This really REALLY hits me so VERY VERY hard. I lost my baby brother a year ago. He was going through some things, also. I’d give anything for him to be here with me. He’s my best friend.
This brought back so many memories of my great friend Garret. He took his own life back in 2015 leaving behind his wife and beautiful daughter. He was going through it when he i served together but our chain of command pushed him aside when he needed them the most. He was always at my house just venting. We developed such a bond together that when he got out of military. I would call him every day just to check in. I got out in 2014 and struggled with the transition to civilian life. He was with me every step of the way. Little did i know that he was still battling his demons. I miss him deeply. You captured how i felt when trying to help him cope with his problems. But you really hammered it in with how i felt when he died. Not a day goes by that i dont think of him.

I had my best friend died in my arms 2 weeks ago so I understand. It was the closest thing I had to brother. It's so hard man the song it's helped me through a lot of it and I play for him every time I go to his grave.
This came out the day my best friend took his life. He understood me more than anyone. He was always there no matter what. My best memories were made with him. I miss him more than anything. I'll always love you my brother.

Evertime I listen to this song, I get a lump in my throat. My sister's boyfriend lost his brother and it's been really hard since then. So, this song means a lot.
My brother moved out a little while back and i dont see him but 2 days a week and its gotten to the point where everyday feels lonely because he and i would stay up at night and randomly pop into each others room and just chat and even have fun together but since he's moved out i dont have that connection with him anymore and its honestly gotten me down in the dumps feelin depressed but this song reminds me of the good times we had durin the nights and i wanna say thank you Shawn James for makin this song

I once experienced this, one day I talked with the closest friend I have ever had, he was a combat veteran, he had alot of guilt and pain and took to drinking to dull his pain. So one night i call him up and he was drunk and having flash backs, he nearly killed himself that night, im glad i was able to convince him to talk it out with me, we talked for a good 6 or so hours, he sobered up, thats when we agreed that we weren't friend but brothers. Didn't matter if we didn't share the same blood or even experiences. All that mattered was that we understood each other. Im happy to say that he is now 3 years sober and we talk everyday no excuses.
