The non Muslim is correct here, no greater being, in their humblest form, would accept someone worshipping/submitting to themselves. The purest do not need recognition, they only educate. Religion is a way of life, during hard times, and the masses needed stories/examples of why not to act in certain ways, in the name of something they didn't understand.

You assume that our worship is for the benefit of God, when it does not benefit God in the slightest. To worship God is not only for our benefit but is the greatest gift we could possibly receive.
