    Props for admitting right up front that you don’t know something and then diving in to learn it. Every dad should show his kids that he doesn’t know everything but he’s willing to learn and not be afraid to “look dumb”.

    I've rented 3 times from Cruise America, what he said about the generator is the case. Say you want to heat something quickly in the microwave, you need to use it for an hour to be charged, the Hobbs meter needs to turn over to be charged. Also, the cab air conditioner will cool the whole rig if you run at idle so you can actually do without the generator, at least for a while. My rental was pre-pandemic, your video makes me want to do it again!

    I am an experienced RV'ER.I loved your video and helpful hints. Your video is very helpful for newbies! 2 things yes gas is expensive but your family is together sharing the experiences and better to clean and sanitize once than many hotel rooms!! And airfares would be more. I am happy your family experienced this. For future RV trips - a pro tip never cross your fresh water hose with the sewer hose. Keep the fresh hose far as possible away from sewer. Thank you for the video!

    From my experience once you start the generator allow it to run for a minute or two before putting a load on it, such as turning on the AC or Microwave. The initial surge in power, required to start the AC or Microwave, can put undue strain on the generator unless it is running at full capacity. Also, the generator circuit breaker can trip if the generator does not meet that initial surge in power requirement.

    Nice video! One thing that you have to be aware of, in addition, is the carrying capacity of your vehicle. A 25ft class C on a Ford E-350 chassis has a rather limited carrying capacity and people need to take care not to surpass that capacity. The carrying capacity specific to the vehicle will be listed on a large yellow sticker, usually located inside the passenger door frame. When figuring out your own carrying capacity in a motorized vehicle you have to add the weight of all occupants, pets, belongings, food, etc, PLUS the weight of any water in the fresh water tank. The water is a huge load if the tank is full---water weighs about 8.3 pounds per gallon so a full 40-gallon tank will add over 300 pounds to the weight of your unit. I would estimate that the vehicle in the video has about an 1100 lb carrying capacity, depending on how it is equipped.
    Also---if your propane fridge is up to temp and loaded it will keep its temp for at least a few hours on the road, especially if you had flat ice packs to the freezer. On some roads, tunnels, and bridges you are not allowed to have any propane on while driving. We never rode with the propane on, too much of a fire hazard.

      A question from an Aussie thinking about coming to USA and buying one of the Cruise America units to travel for 12 months. In Australia the Dometic fridge is 3 way and operates on power when plugged in, gas when stopped and not plugged in and 12 volt from the truck when travelling. Is that the same in these units....the video says gas or electric but doesn't mention 12 volt which implies that you run it on gas when travelling? Also, lights, TV, water pump etc will be 12 volt in Australia so you can use these without a generator (as there's a house battery) is that the same in these units.....or is there not a 12 volt system?

    I’m glad to see your video so I know what to expect when I rent a Cruise America rig….
    I didn’t know how a campground’s hookups work, now I do!
    I’d like to rent a CA rig for a week to see what it’s like to live in a RV.
    The rig you have is nice, but I like the next model up, which has a big walk around bed in the back and a split bathroom (shower on one side, toilet and sink on the other)….
    More like a studio apartment on wheels….

    We are newbies too! Question, how far did you get on a tank of gas? They say it takes 1/4 tank to just keep everything running, you can't go past that. How many stops did you do for gas, and what would you estimate gas would be going into Texas?

    • @californiacityslickers3623

      That’s a hard question but I’ll try to answer it my best. I got from California to Las Vegas with out getting gas that was a 225 miles drive and I still had 1/4 tank left and yeah I never let it get lower then 1/4 of tank I believe after the fill up we would fill back up at half tank just to be safe and not knowing how offen we would see gas stations

      @@thebusyhomeschoolingmomfiles there are the number of seat belts appropriate to the allowed number of passengers. for instance in the 25 ft the maximum number of occupants is 5 so thats how many seat belts there will be : 2 at the front for driver and front seat passenger and 3 for the other seats

    I want to rent this same model for a trip from NJ to Niagara Falls . Any idea what the gas mileage is on this thing? How much did it cost you to fill up your tank? Thanks in advance.

      @californiacityslickers3623  Před 2 lety +2

      I believe it was 18 to 22 MPG but don’t quote me on that and it cost $160 to fill up the tank but gas was around $3.89 / 4 bucks a gallon at the time.

      I enjoyed it but don’t think I need anything that big on road trips but it got me looking into a nice class B camper van and that will be my next rental for the next road trip with my family

    When renting an RV why is there a charge to use the generator?

    • @californiacityslickers3623
      @californiacityslickers3623  Před 2 lety +2

      I’m not really sure probably just a way for the rental companies to make money off people to be honest

    • @xtinmanx
      @xtinmanx Před 11 měsíci

      They charge because generators require regular maintenance and oil changes. Plus if it goes bad they are really expensive to replace. Still I think $3 hr might be a bit high.

    How long did the propane last before needing to refill?

      @californiacityslickers3623  Před 2 lety +1

      I had the RV for 5 days and it lasted to the last night and I refilled before I returned it… doesn’t kill the propane at all I was surprised on how long it lasted

      We were in an RV for 3-1/2 months with three adults. We didn't use the gas stove or oven much, mostly the microwave and a Ninja air fryer. We had an external barbecue that used the coach propane. Showers, refrigerator every day (We were only hooked to AC at night). We ran the heater some of the time, between September and January.
      We used about 30 gallons of propane.
