I've never done this but I've heard its preferable to just replace the entire door skin. It avoids the high and low spots two separate pieces can generate

In hindsight I would probably go that route next time, I’ve always wanted to reskin a door anyway, maybe on the panel, we’ll see

It got to hot when you welded...it gets hot and shrinks and shrinks in....do just a couple tacks and walk away until it's completely cool down and do that the entire panel....you may still get a little warpage but that can be worked with hammers and dollys and stud dent puller
