SPI would be an amazing set of armor for frontline soldiers. Marines and Army men alike.

Aside from their augmentations, the S-III's differed from their predecessors in one very key way: Motivation. The III's were conscripted from vengeful war orphans, unlike the II's who grew up in a time of relative peace. They were more lively and aggressive than Spartan II's who'd no doubt heard of the exploits of the legendary Spartans, and were, again, motivated to live up to the expectations placed on them. Imagine Blue Team's "cold fury", but on every mission.

It's interesting how SPI armor has a special place in the fandom due to how sad the Spartan-IIIs existence is. Like when it was revealed recently with the Iratus thing in Infinite's multiplayer, that it was SPI armor seems to have sparked a lot of attention purely due to its association with the IIIs. Regardless of whether a fan prefers the IIs or the IIIs, they are both distinct enough that each are appreciated and slotted into the lore in ways that do not step on each other's toes.

I always thought Spartan IIIs were superior to Spartan IIs. Their augmentations were far less invasive due to the fact that they were chemical and they had refined the process to the point of a 0% mortality rate by the time Gamma Company came around in Ghosts of Onyx. They were just as strong as Spartan IIs (though the only time you ever really got to see this was in Reach due to the fact that Noble team had received MJOLNIR armor, you'd be forgiven for thinking they were weaker due to the fact that you almost always see Spartan IIs in MJOLNIR armor which has a far greater strength multiplying effect than SPI.) So if you were to put a Spartan II and III together in the same room with no armor or the same armor they would be just as fast and strong as eachother. The only reason anyone considers IIIs to be inferior is because the majority of them never received MJOLNIR.
Combine this with the fact that they put far greater emphasis on training the IIIs to be superior tactical thinkers in order to compensate for their lack of top-tier equipment and you have soldiers that are all masters of battlefield tactics on an individual and group level. Not only this but many Spartan IIIs also seemed to be trained in a wide variety of technical skills like Noble 6 being a pilot in the top secret SABRE program and Kat's superior cyber warfare skills. The most obvious advantage over the IIs would be that there's more of them.
The final advantage they have over Spartan IIs in my opinion, and one of the most important, is that they're not complete emotionally suppressed automatons. Spartan IIs are practically fleshy robots that almost never display any kind of emotion, even to eachother a lot of the time even though they consider their team members to be their family. Spartan IIIs on the other hand seem to be a much more close-knit group, with all members of a company considering eachother family instead of just the fireteams they got paired up with. Not only this but the increased empathy they have for eachother and other fellow humans could potentially give them a well of strength to draw from in times of desperation and could possibly turn them into far more savage combatants than even the Spartan IIs.
All that being said, I'd take a company of Spartan IIIs in SPI armor over a fireteam of Spartan IIs in MJOLNIR Mk VI any day. Spartan IIIs don't get enough love and get a reputation for being inferior due to the fact that they were intended to be sent on suicide missions. If they had been deployed in the same manner that the IIs had then they would have got the love they deserved, not to mention they probably could've had a more impressive service record.

I agree 100% with you and I think if SPI armor was made to be just as good if not better due to the camouflage systems which MJOLNIR lacked, many people wouldn't think so lowly of them and maybe would even consider them their favorite generation of Spartans. I also thought they should of made specific versions of the SPI armor for ODST's and marines and one made just for Spartan IIIs so the gap between MJOLNIR and SPI could be closed or at least be made a lot smaller but because of time constraints and budget limits, this wasn't possible. It sucks these warriors get disrespected so much.

Of the armor combinations best resembling SPI in Halo: Reach that had been recognized this one actually fits the bill best:
    Pilot helmet
    Gold visor
    ODST shoulders
    FJ/Para Knees
    All else default
Sage Green, Maroon, and Steel coloration have been seen in more closely associated canon.
Chest, wrist, and utility are default due to soldiers on the field who use SPI not being seen using supplemental armor, storage, or any such worn gadgets. The choice of FJ/Para knees and ODST shoulders are chosen for their maximum coverage and minimal profile.

They aren't cheap in terms of money or the wealth of human suffering needed to turn a child into an unstoppable killing machine. Quantity has a quality of its own, but look at the record of the second generation of Spartans. They are living expressions of human ferocity. You don't put soldiers of that pedigree in something battery powered.

For those of you who joined latter with Halo Reach from September 14 2010 or later like myself, your Spartan is a surviving Spartan III.

Second the only reason I need to believe that O.N.I would make more "in secret" would be the success of Spartan black team, and the Spartan III head hunter's. I sincerely cannot believe that O.N.I would restrain itself from making more Perfect Blackops Kill teams. Some of witch would be later integrated and hidden in plain sight as Spartan 4's.

Spartan III soldiers were made to be mass produced and disposable, and as for the additional Spartan II soldiers, probably a minimum of 1000. Spartan II class 2 & 3 anyone. [Definitely not cannon, but a fun head cannon and fan theory all the same.]

Why not equip most soldiers with SPI when it is much cheaper and has camouflage available to it and some strength and speed boosts. Also how can SPI make weapons held invisible if is uses its plating material for invisibility and can you also explain invisibility in halo since I always thought they used the shields to reflect the surroundings for camouflage which allows them to turn their weapons invisible since the games also show that the shields also cover whichever weapon you hold. But how come reach invisibility allows the energy sword to go invisible while halo 1 swords are clearly visible is this a difference with the tech used on both events?

    • @Installation00
      @Installation00  Před 5 lety +3

In game, it's more than likely for technical or gameplay reasons. In the lore, unless weapons are also fitted with the same Camo tech, it wouldn't be possible to make them invisible too with the SPI armor tech. Active Camo is a different situation all together. That uses energy fields to bend light around the wearer as apposed to blending with the environment. As for the energy swords in Halo CE being visible vs Reach, its probably that in CE, an Elite with an energy sword is a one hit kill, and thus, to give you a chance, they make the energy shield visible.
